It would have been incredible if England had won, from a ratings perspective. I wonder if the barb reach was 27m or so last night? There must have been a good 1m-2m watching in pubs/sports bars last night.

Sensational match average!

And I think the first time BARB will record a 20m+ figure in the officials for 8 years?

Cretinous they may be, but at least they've a talent, and weren't just borne or married into a stupid amount of adulation.

Anyway feel this may get off-topic...

They played a special ident at 10pm with the C5+1 channel numbers, clearly hoping to draw more of a crowd for the 10pm showing, but obviously what happened with the match put pay to that.

In the end it didn't really matter whether it was at 9pm or 10pm due to how much the match overran by. I doubt a +1 showing at 11pm was ever going to do that well as it's too late, especially on a Sunday.

Does 774k include +1? Either way I think it held up well considering. And today is a new day.

Was it a repeat? DigiGuide did not mark it as such.

It was certainly a late change to the schedule as Lifers was supposed to air there. (now airs tonight)

Yes, staggering really that this particular match held the attention of 20m people. It was end to end stuff for a while in the first half so pretty exciting, but the second half and particularly extra time were a bit dull and certainly lacking in England chances.

It does raise the question just how high the ratings might have gone had they managed to progress, but yet again it's a question we'll have to leave hanging in the air. Until next time anyway.

No, the BB audience doesn't include +1. Broadcast says the +1 screening had a further 97k.

Seemed a bizarre change to make so late in the day. I assume it was because they didn't want Lifers to air against the match, but if so why did they schedule it there in the first place knowing that there was a high chance it would face the England game?

If Secret Millionaire was new then I think it's a sign of how far it's fallen that C4 are willing to move it to clash with a live England quarter final in order to protect a one-off documentary. A repeat would certainly have been a better option as it would be a complete waste of a brand new episode (which is still capable of drawing an OK-ish audience for them).

Emmerdale 4.55m incl. +1
Countryfile 4.16m
The Chase 2.25m incl. +1
John Bishop's Britain 2.23m

ITV's Frost repeat got 2m (2.1m inc +1).

Frost got a very similar rating to Tuesday's George Gently repeat so they couldn't really have expected any more from it. Emmerdale didn't do great but I suppose that's OK given that it doesn't normally air on Sundays and the build-up probably still did well. Countryfile seems a bit lower than usual too but it'll bounce back. Celebrity Chase did alright considering it was a repeat - they should consider giving new episodes a proper primetime slot.

Cheers. So 871k in total. One Saturday highlights show during BB12 had 886k, so very close to escaping being the lowest rated ever. Had the match not gone to extra time and penalties it would have done.

23.16m down to 2.23m after the news...is that the biggest switch-off ever?

Countryfile was a clip show, not a proper new edition and they tend to rate a bit lower. Add to that it's earlier start at 6pm and I'm not surprised by the rating. It probably picked up some viewers at 6:30 when people expected it to be on (there were tweets complaining about the scheduling...)

Yes, but it was 11.30pm on a Sunday evening, and not a 9pm junction post Coronation Street

Without +1 I believe so, it's 100k less than the lowest last year.

Wow, impressive viewing figures by the Beeb there. Such a shame they'll have to wait another two years until they broadcast an England match...

Why was it on at 9pm last night anyway? They've moved Once Upon a Time around that much I'm sure an hour delayed for BB wouldn't cause too much distress for viewers.”

Think they had a feature film afterwards so probably they would have had re-jig the whole evening from 21:00 ?

Not a shame for the viewers and their well-being. That's 20m people without any fingernails left today.

ITV1 (inc +1)
17:35 - The Chase: 2.25m (14%)
19:00 - Emmerdale: 4.55m (21%)
19:30 - You've Been Framed!: 2.22m (9%)
20:00 - A Touch of Frost: 2.12m (7%)

That awkward moment when ITV executives see that the channel does better against 20 million+ opposition than it does on Tuesday nights...

They might have to wait four years if England don't qualify for Rio.......

Great rating for the football, although there must be more than 20 million people (including me) who are really depressed; we were so close!

Does anyone think that the Olympics opening ceremony will beat it? I think it might. There wasn't much hype before Euro 2012 and look at the ratings. The Olympics have been a talking point for SEVEN YEARS! I will be very disappointed if ratings aren't 25 million+!

We should do a Ratings Thread virtual conga when a 20m audience is delivered.

It's all a bit underwhelming on here today...

Hope the reported official figure makes it to 20m, both official match figures reported so far have been lower than the overnights. Be a shame if it got 19.97m.

Though GeorgeS would be delighted....
