Very good rating for Attack the Block under the circumstances.

At the risk of raining on this glorious ratings day , there was a news bulletin between MOTD and John Bishop which seems to have rated very low, considering the lead-in of course

Rihanna finished at 23:15, the 'new' Family Guy episode was 23:15 - 23:35 then the 'old' episode was 23:35 - 00:00. The schedule was 15 minutes late so the 985k figure is closer to the 'new' Family Guy episode and the first American Dad was pretty much where the 'old' Family Guy episode ended up.

If the rating was 824k between 23:00 and 23:20 then that is quite impressive for the end of Rihanna's set.

I'd estimate the series-on-series rise is a shade above the 20% mark including C5+1, figures for which were not released this week by Barb.

I thought it would get what it got, most BB viewers are female and and so single women not interested in the match, along with those of us Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish viewers also not interested in the match (I was watching BB), were always going to stop it going below 500k imo, 23 million peak for the match or not.

I suspect the audience in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland actually increased as the prospect of England being beaten loomed - would be interesting to see the regional breakdowns.

I think people underestimate the amount of males watching BB. Also the TARGET audience would choose the footie over BB. All the teens were watching the match (hence why the BB twitter feed was completely silent pretty much last night). I'm sure the men/women gap is smaller than people think. I'm sure that it was 63%/37% split in a breakdown I saw not long ago. 37% is quite a large % for a show like BB. Also BB was knocked down around 40% last night, so it makes sense. Some people expect a 90% female skew and 10% male. It's not that over dramatic.

A 20%+ increase incl +1 is very impressive. This series of BB I think is timeshifting record numbers. Even during Ch4 days, it would timeshift an average of 250-325k. We are seeing rises of 450-500k this series.

Someone posted a break down for last year's launch I think, if I remember correctly, men accounted for less than 2 million of the 5.1 million who watched were men. BB's audience is about 2/3s female I think.

I'm not a teen, but I'm within their target audience, and I'm male, and I watched BB.

Who does? No one's said (or thinks) it skews 90% (no one on here or with the slightest knowledge of ratings anyway), though 37% (if true) is quite a large male percentage for a reality show, that still makes 2/3s of the audience female.

1.Yes but even so that % is quite high for BB males. Quite a high % of males watch it considering the type of show it is. Same with TOWIE, an unusually high male % watches that too, despite being saying it's a woman's show.

2. I know your not. I was just bringing in the Twitter element. As the BB audience IS 16-34 (which is also the age range that use Twitter most), that the Twitter page was empty despite being normally very packed... which obviously meant they chose the match over BB.

3. I was under the impression by people saying "BB is a woman's show, only women and gay men watch it" that people meant that it skews an unusually high %. I bet some people actually believe that 90% of women watch it and 10% of men. I saw a post saying on TiBB "The match won't affect BB. BB has like 2% of a straight male audience". When it has far, far higher. And well, I think it was that, the male % was somehwhere in the 34-38% range.

Anyway, it was the toughest competition BB has faced since 2004. (Euro 2004 during BB5). Either way, BB will be boosted now.

Mrs Brown's Boys is a bonafide big hit, and surely a Christmas Special now will be extremely near or even over 10 million viewers.

If Primeval was not dead before, it is now. Saying that, if the Canadian Primeval spin off is commissioned, I can see Watch taking rights exclusively.

Well done BBC for getting a ratings triumph, and I agree with the FM regarding Mrs Browns Boys. That should easily be in the top two rated shows of Christams Day.

But that's what I mean, you capitalised the word target, as if not being a teen anyone over 20 isn't part of it. BB's target audience is 16-34s, most 16-34s (especially those who watch television) aren't teenagers.


Twitter doesn't reflect ratings though and 16-34s, while BB's target audience, don't make up the majority of it. A lot of people would have not tweeted because like you and BB clearly did (with their tweets and facebook posts before the match), they assumed no one would be watching. I only tweet occasionally but even if I tweeted regularly, I probably wouldn't have bothered last night if I thought BB was going to do as badly as you and others did.

They were (judging from the bit you've posted) exaggerating for effect.

Obviously. You only have to listen to BB Couch Potatoes to know that most male BB fans are heterosexual. The host is, the host of the show that it replaced is, most if not all the male guests are and most the males in the chat room are. Even on DS:BB, part of a showbiz site.

That still means that 62-66% (2/3s) of BB viewers are female though.

Wow that is dismal for Primeval, and even worse for YCBS. I'm very surprised they've left YCBS in the 7pm slot as it is one of ITV's biggest ever flops. Only 2 episodes left now though.

Great rating for the MBB repeat. I believe they've commissioned 2 Christmas specials, so I think one should be on Christmas Day and the other on either Boxing Day or New Year's Day. A Christmas Day schedule of The Royle Family at 9pm, MBB at 10pm and Michael McIntyre at 10:30pm would be huge for them. They could even put Miranda there too, probably before 9pm. Along with the debut of the new companion on Doctor Who, the Mr Stink cartoon (I beleive that will be 30 mins a la The Gruffalo) and the premiere of Up (I assume that'll be the 3:10pm movie) it could be a really special Christmas Day lineup for BBC1. EE will no doubt have some ludicrous and depressing Christmas night storyline too, so they could use that to maybe wrap around Miranda or Doctor Who before 9pm to give them a real boost. Although with all that to fit in they might have to shift Strictly (the weak link last year) to another night (Christmas Eve or Boxing Day?) where it could be the main event of the night as opposed to being overshadowed by other stuff on the main day.

As you mentioned Christmas, ITV are filming bits for Text Santa at the moment, so its obviously back this Christmas Eve

football is an amazing figure, shame it was for something so predictable, and no real drama in it (or so im told) the rest of the TV, did ok, all things considered.

In Germany the game England-Italy was watched by 19.3m people. The share was 56.2 % and the highest rating in a game without Germany.
In the group from 14-49 the game was watched by 8.44m and got a share from 56.8 %.

The Germany game on Friday was watched by 26.8m (77.8%) or 11.12m 14-49 years old (82.7%).

Yeah they did something for it at The X Factor auditions a couple of weeks ago, and I assume other shows have done stuff too. It was OK last year but they could have done with a few more sketches to add a bit of weight to it.

Not sure whether they'll do it on Christmas Eve again (a Monday this year) or the Saturday before. It arguably suits both reasonably well - it'll probably depend on what their other offerings are and, perhaps most importantly, whether the Strictly final is on the 15th or the 22nd, as they won't want to go against that.

Would this as a fantasy Xmas schedule work?

Not actually surprised about primeval, as a lot will have already seen the series on DVD.

It will have done but it would still, I would think (it was to me) be less of a big deal to miss it for BB (where BB fans) than it would have been if it were their own national sides playing or if they were English (Wales have never qualified).

I can't speak for all of Wales but it wasn't that I dislike England or wanted them to loose, I just wasn't, as a BB fan, interested enough in watching them play to miss BB and have to catch up.

Not bad for a repeat, I was expecting less than that (wasn't it getting about 19-20% share when first aired?) . Mind you Barrowman was trending on twitter virtually the entire hour it was on, so perhaps not surprising

That looks really good - I'd go as far as saying it'd be their best Christmas Day lineup for a few years now. Loads of comedy which is a great thing as they didn't quite have enough last year. Strictly seems a bit wasted at 5:30pm but I can't think of anything else that could go there and rate better. I doubt they'll do it but I'd like to see a Merlin Christmas special. It'd suit that slot nicely and rate very well, as it gets 7m+ against TXF so deserves a special in my view.

I've just remembered they've also got a Call The Midwife Christmas special. It could be quite difficult to schedule that on the main day as unlike Strictly they'd probably be very reluctant to put it against Corrie, and then there's Downton in the way too. It could go on the Sunday before Xmas, or indeed on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day in a plum slot.

Nothing wrong with a bit of Christmas schedule talk in the middle of Summer - I'm sure it started earlier in the year last year anyway!

Nice schedule, but past experience tells me not to bet on Royle Family being ready, and Comedy Roadshows are few and far between.
