In your opinion of course. I strongly disagree and others do too.

I thought it was about Doctors and the surgery, had no idea there was an electrical engineers slant about it also.

Not really hopeful for live sport if the next couple of weeks are anything to go by. BBC HD is opting for cheap daytime repeats when CBBC is on BBC2 rather than continuing with live Wimbledon coverage as I'm sure they did in the past, and even at the weekend rather than offer continuous coverage BBC2 cuts to the same old repeats rather than stick with on court action. With just one red button stream currently on Freeview (and from next year on Sky/Cable) they surely need to maximising coveage on BBC1/2 and making best use of their rights rather than breaking at any opportunity.

Yeah, ironic that we had to rely on ITV to give us a rating for EE...

Yes tweeting, but GS normally in overnights gets 350-500k. I think the fact there are more tweets is because BB at least has a much older audience than GS. I feel GS audience is all Twitter obsessed people (a lot of teens), whereas BB has an older audience too.

The BBC weren't sure for a while whether they would be showing Thursday's or Friday's Euro 2012 quarter-final, and therefore whether the hour-long EE would be shown on Thursday or Friday. On BBC3 they scheduled Chris Moyles' Comedy Empire from 9.30 to 10.30 on Friday and then at 10.30 there was supposed to be either EE (if it had been on BBC1) or Russell Howard's Good News Extra (if not). Not quite sure of the thinking - like most alternative schedules it was a bit of a mess, but it didn't seem to hurt EE much. It was second only to Midsomer Murders on ITV3 among the multichannels that day.

Surely if a show is actually any good Twitter would be rather quiet - I only find myself online or using my mobile during a show if I'm not really into the show I'm watching.

If I may leap to the BBC's defence (albeit half-heartedly), at least the people who are used to Bargain Hunt, Flog It! etc have an outlet for those shows during Wimbledon - whether they will be signposted on air as being on BBC HD and people actually find them is another matter.

I've said it before but the worst part is that they can't even take the moral high ground and preach 'good journalism' as while they may not take sides politically like FNC and MSNBC, their coverage is tabloid like and sensationalist. It's a shadow of the CNN of old and even of the current CNN International.

Apologies for the double post but this is a really good Politico article on the problems at CNN,

http://www.politico.com/news/stories...862_Page2.html

Particularly on the subject of CNN not delivering on its promise of quality journalism,

Quote:
“One high-level industry source called the premium news model idea a cop-out, saying, “You can do news on a nonpartisan basis and not be boring.”

The CNBC model would also require CNN to commit itself to breaking news, which analysts say it has not done.

“CNN is still out gathering news, but the casual viewer sees an awful lot of programming that doesn’t reflect that,” Thompson said. “That identity that’s trumpeted is not consistent with what you might see on a random look through CNN.”

Staffers also said that the lack of a cohesive editorial strategy has led to a decline in the quality of the network’s programming, denting the brand and causing considerable embarrassment for Time Warner chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes, who has reportedly called on the network’s top brass to find a solution to the problem.

“It’s frustrating to hear our leadership talk about the exemplary journalism we do, then turn on the TV during the day and see CNN doing another story about ‘birthers’ or ‘tips for dining out alone,’” said one staffer.”

I remember watching BBC1 that night. I wonder what all the other Ratings Thread regulars were doing, although I realise some weren't even born.

I imagine one Ratings Thread regular sitting in the spare room, watching ITV. Tin hat on his head, and a plate of cold sprouts on his lap.

Quote:
“I'd have thought airing EE at the usual times would be best in terms of hanging on to as many regulars as possible, but if as you suggest, hour-long Emmerdales are thrown into the mix they will be more damaging to the less-visible BBC2 EEs than if they were on BBC1. I trust they will be flagged regularly in sound and vision on the other BBC channels, however. Not sure what you mean about the above point - we know about the Monday 23 July episode with a live scene, but I imagine EE will run on BBC1 right up to (possibly including) Friday 27 July, and come back to BBC1 on Monday 13 August? Sorry if I'm missing something.”

I didn't word it very well. I just wondered if there might be fewer episodes than normal during the Olympics, in order to minimise the number of episodes being relegated to BBC Two. They could always make up for it with some extra slots on BBC One, after the Games.

Nine and Seven has tied for their primary channel share with 21.2% each. Meanwhile, Seven's dramas Once Upon a Time and Winners and Losers premiere have disappointed for the night with 889k and 1.07m respectively.

Quote:
“Tue TV: #TheBlock 1.46m 7News 1.38m 9News 1.29m ACA 1.16m TT 1.11m W&L 1.07m #MasterChefAU 1.06m BBT 1.03m ABCNews 952k OnceUpon 889k”

I'm not sure if 1.07m is Winners and Losers' series low, but this does not look good for Seven's drama, when it starts at that figure. It would be a decent start if it was Ten, and in rare scenarios, Nine (although that would be below average for Nine). However, with Seven's history of constant 1.2m-1.5m for their scripted shows (ie. Rafters - until 2011, Revenge), this comes as a blow for the network.

I think CNN could move towards a more formatted schedule in primetime. Investigative documentaries that would actually make news and highlight their news teams work. Maybe a US version of Question Time. A proper one hour interview show with a decent name once a week (at most) perhaps using the Life Stories format. The terrestrial channels in the UK do their fair share of current affairs stuff so there are formats out there. They wouldn't even need new staff - just get the current anchors to front the new shows.

I don't think CNN can compete with FOX and MSNBC when they're using the same "man, suit, desk" formula without the extra punch that FOX/MSNBC bring through their partisan commentary.
