The DSBB Big Brother launch thread tonight already has more pages than the Celeb BB launch. Hope this means ratings will be similar.

Everything's relative. Celebrity Juice and Keith Lemon's LemonAid have both attracted 1.8m viewers recently and for CJ on ITV2 that's brilliant but for KLL on ITV1 that's rubbish.

BB has a core audience, if they got a decent presenter (anyone but Brian and that annoying accent) ratings would improve. I hope it gets a decent 2.5m tonight and stabilises around 2m.

Too true, also I reckon should TXF start to slide in the ratings, which will happen in time, all their tabloid allies will turn on it like they did with BB.

As a Welsh man I prefer to see them make the quarters then get knocked out on penalties, preferbly by Ireland this time - though more likely Spain or Italy.

And the reason us Celts don't want England to win is firstly why should we, we're not English, but secondly because the press always go into a tournament believing they should win hands down even though England have done nothing on the pitch in decades to suggest they are worth of a place in the semi-finals, never mind winning the thing.

It's actually refreshing seeing the expectations of the press this year actually be far more realistic and I think there is a feeling this year that they really would have to earn their place in the latter rounds of the competition rather than trade on past glories - so there is a chance for the England football team to earn a bit of respect this year.

Agreed, Brian is the weak link in the coverage.

For those of us who have been away, the BBC "highlights" just now are a bit of a waste, just a lot of waffle designed for obsessives who watched it all anyway. I think a proper round up would have done well tonight.

Like it used to be in the eighties. I still think three episodes are enough for the soaps and the quality was better in those days.

It is a blatant Big Brother rip-off, with even ex-Big Brother USA staff working on it. If it's a hit, I expect interest from British broadcasters for the format, such as from E4 or ITV2.

if e4 took it, they would be slammed by all, as it is much closer to our viewer vote version than the US housemate voting version...

It literally sounds like Big Brother in everything but name. How on earth do they get away with that?

You could say the same for shows like "Duets" or even "The Choice" - both 'The Voice' rip-offs, the latter one doesn't even hide it in the name, although it is a dating show and not a singing contest.

I can see the CBS lawsuit being tossed out.............BB copyright covers the name and the concept.......not people being filmed in a building or indeed a competition element. I could see ITV2 snapping it up if it became available.

Another pile of dross, it's more likely to end up on MTV, which likes these American shows. I think the main three broadcasters are a bit wary of these shows now as the appetite for them is declining and E4 have had their fingers burned with three reality duds recently. Also ITV2 seems to be evolving towards scripted reality and imported talent shows.

Scripted reality shows are basically bad soap operas. Hollyoaks should be more concerned by their success than proper reality shows.

I don't think there's much hope for Glass House though. No USP at all.

I think it will be one of these shows that will play to 100,000 bored people under 25 on MTV. I think the whole reality genre is moving on now, the old favourite of let's stick 12 people in a location or get in some Z list celebs is tanking, with only IAC waving the flag in the ratings on the big four for these shows.

It reminds me of this reality show, Dilemme, in France. It was pretty much Big Brother with tasks, nominations and viewer voting. The difference was that there was an "inside host", some people dressed in complete red, tasks were based on dilemmas and the house space was much more narrow. They also had this thing where they open this box to see if the box they chosen were adding or subtracting money towards the prize pool.

Anyways, Endemol (Big Brother/Secret Story) sued the creator of the show, for "copying" Secret Story and "unfair competitions" etc. and won. W9 was planning on a second season (it actually did well in the ratings), but because of the lawsuit, it was scrapped.

It's been confirmed today the BBC is taking Jake Humphrey off F1 this summer so he can concentrate on other work.

He will miss Canada (10 June) and Europe (24 June) due to Euro 2012. Then he will be back to present the British GP on July 8, but will skip Germany (22 July) and Hungary (29 July) due to London 2012.

I can't work out why he's missing Germany.

Lee McKenzie will take his place. She wasn't great last time she hosted the Japanese GP in 2010 when Jake was hosting the Commonwealth Games, but she has been doing Inside F1 on the BBC News Channel and has got the experience and knowledge.

Canada, Germany and Hungary will be highlights. Europe is live.

There will be an enormous amount of preparation work to do before the Olympics starts so I imagine he wants to be able to concentrate on the Olympics in the week before it starts.

As Germany is only highlights it's not so important that he's there so makes sense to focus on preparing for the Olympics.

Also he'll be working every day during the Olympics so may need a few days off beforehand in addition to doing preparation work.

So all in all it seems entirely understandable to me.

The Diamond Jubilee Concert also helped Nine win the night in Australia. Broadcasting from 7.30 until the finish (not sure when that was but when you factor in adverts it will have been maybe aan hour longer than 10.45pm like in England). the concert got 1.12m viewers, and saw rafters sink to 1.15m, and Once Upon a Time fall to 974k.Masterchef was below million also, on 975k. It would be interesting to see what the concert got between say 7.30 and 9.30 (well in excess of 1.5m would be expected surely, considering viewers don't stay up late in Australia)

So looking forward to the ratings. Should be even more interesting than usual.
