The jubilee concert was watched by 14 million according to digital spy.

I am a bit surprised that after such a mauling the BBC still had a big audience for Tuesdays thanksgiving ceremony..even when there was more channel choice! Can't people turn over now? I thought ITV would have had the edge considering the negativity..but the figures don't support that from what I can see.

I just want to know if it included +1, because if It didn't it could add a good 300k or so to 2.6m.

The usual ratio is BBC1 trouncing ITV1 by a 3 to 1 margin.

As it was yesterday. Normal service then, no big switch to ITV.

That must be a disappointment for you after your grousing about BBC1's pageant coverage...

Auditions show @ 8pm did well with about 1.2m/5.0%.

Sorry Dancc I know you're a big fan of Channel 5 (or work for them?), but surely even you can't deny that is a disappointing figure. I'm a big fan of BB and will watch this series as I have watched the others, but I genuinely believed there was a good chance that this years launch would convincingly outrate last years and for the whole series to rate consistently higher.

This rating is therefore disappointing (especially considering the poor weather and lack of competition) and I fear the series will be down on last years which could well spell the end of conventional BB.

Not a brilliant start for BB - they'll have been hoping for 3m+ although it was up on last year I suppose (but not by much). 820k (exc +1) for Bit on The Side afterwards.

It's good to start around the figure as the fall won't look as painful.

I think that people who believe in a hereditary monarchy chosen by God personally, may be slow to switch channels to ITV. I mean it just a suspension of disbelief too far... even if the BBC is going down the swanee in production terms

Every other tweet about BB when it was trending before it aired was asking if it was back or asking when it was back? Last year, it was more like every 5 or 6 tweets. Promotion. Even the presenter's followers were constantly asking them when it started.

The BBC1 audience for the river pageant was 24 times the Sky News audience so I guess nothing for them to trumpet about there.Have Sky ever acknowledged that most of their coverage actually came from the BBC as a pool ?

I thought more would have watched ITV after the BBC's Thames pageant debacle. It seems that if Simon Cowell had made it and there was a dancing dog people would have watched. Both BBC & ITV did good broadcasts though.

Can't give us the data, Dan?

Why should they if they are paying towards pooled coverage. Does the BBC acknowledge that ITN and Sky contribute to their costs?

Although it was the worst launch show I've ever watched, I didn't enjoy it and I won't be watching again, I don't understand how people expected more to watch the launch show and its a fair number for them to start with. It's the same as last year with the Friday launch and BB boredom after CBB counteracting the poor promotional campaign and lack of competition. Channel 5 have ruined Big Brother further so it was never going to launch with more than 2-3m, the days of 5m watching in June have long gone.

What extensive promo campaign. There was none?

Last series came off the back of CBB and had Pamela Anderson in the house. I am surprised it did so well, plus the housemates are interesting. People may stick with it.

Sky didn't cut away from the boats but their coverage was full of waffle. Best to turn down the sound and watch the pictures.

You never know. With +1 it will be close-ish to 3m and officially the launch will be over 3m. With CBB we know that they get around 1m more on average. I enjoyed last night (and I have watched since 2000).

Horrific for Clunes!

I think the Big Brother launch did fine. It's never going to hit the heights that it did at Channel 4 again, but that is a good figure for Channel 5 and it's good that it matched last year's regular launch figure. It suggests there's a core audience now that are fans that will stick with it.

And you never know, this series could grow through word of mouth if there's lots of drama and exciting moments.

I think if it holds up above 1.5m then it'll be in OK territory, but if it can hold onto 2m then even better.

That's odd. On the day we most want it, DS doesn't report Channel 5 +1 figures for any of it's shows.

The fact that C5+1 only had a share of 0.1% suggests that the +1 figures were all under 100k.

I saw an advert for it on Channel 4 in the middle of The Simpsons. I'm presuming C5 didn't just pay for the one advert on C4.

Now this is something I saw no extensive promotion for. Oh dear.

Solid night for BBC2.
