*Weren't we thinking the eighteen months of hour-long Emmerdales were a ploy to force EastEnders out of the 7.30pm slot on Tuesdays or Thursdays, freeing it up for Coronation St when the football moved to Wednesdays a few years ago?”

Monday
7.00 Emmerdale
7.30 Coronation Street
8.30 Coronation Street

Tuesday
8.00 Coronation Street
8.30 Emmerdale

Wednesday
7.00 Emmerdale

Thursday
8.00 Coronation Street
8.30 Emmerdale

Friday
7.00 Emmerdale (60 minutes)
8.30 Coronation Street

No episodes are lost; every weeknight gets a soap lead in to the 9pm show (minus Wednesday's which will be effected by the football anyway) and yet the schedules don't appear so clogged with soap because they're more spread out. Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm may suffer slightly but Coronation Street would be able to recover the night; starting at a BBC One junction.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lewis performed well considering the increased competition; the lead in obviously means more to the show than BBC One opposition. Emmerdale did well share wise and Coronation Street performed respecably. EastEnders seems on the low side in comparison; not even hitting a 30% share. BBC Two had a decent night as did Channel 4 up to the 10pm slot where it collapsed. If Big Brother can maintain that average Channel 5 will be satisfied; I wonder how much NCIS on +1 dented the main channel as that's a good rating for it?

This viewer doesn't!

I heard the trailer first from the kitchen and thought "ooh that sounds like something exciting"; was immensely disappointed when I went to check and it was cookery's own Sideshow Bob.

at the soap fantasy schedules AGAIN!

Emmerdale's strong point is that its on at 7pm EVERY weeknight. Mess with that & you kill it.

And ITV never want to start Corrie before Eastenders if they can help it. They pass of their inheritance to them if they do so. This coveting the 7.30 Thursday night slot is just BBCista paranoia again

For Summer filler that one didn't do too badly (it didn't exactly do well either though), and considering it wasn't a competitive format (from what I remember it was just Marco travelling across the country and putting a menu together) that was probably about as good as it was going to get for that show.

I think the show people are referring to though is Kitchen Burnout, which aired in a Friday 9pm slot in Spring 2010 and died on its arse (about 2-2.5m) because it was just Hell's Kitchen on the cheap.

Marco did well on Hell's Kitchen though IIRC (he's the only chef who got to return for a second series on it) and I like him and will be tuning in tonight. I don't know much about the format but giving the advertising it's had they probably will be hoping for 1.5m although I suppose a bit lower wouldn't be disastrous. What I don't get though is why they're shoving it back to 8pm next week? That's just asking for a drop in the ratings - poor scheduling there.

I think it was originally intended for 8pm but got promoted to 9pm for the premiere only when Restaurant Inspector underperformed there. (that show would be finishing its series tonight had it not been pulled a few weeks ago)

Extraordinary People can do up to 2m so it makes sense to give that the better slot next week.

Thanks for the info on Kitchen Burnout.

I agree on the second point - I don't see why ITV1 would want to air Coronation Street before EastEnders regularly though it didn't work too badly last night, albeit on an off night.

Any issues Emmerdale would have moving to 8.30pm would surely be offset by the Coronation Street lead in?

If I were BBC1 I would think about moving Fridays Eastenders (usually the lowest rated of the week) to a permanent Wednesday slot at 8pm straight after Corrie. It would then give EE a boost ratings wise not to be on Fridays and it would give BBC1 something they havent had in a long time and thats a valuable EE lead in at 8.30 on Wednesdays that could be used for comedies which they used to do before ITV moved Corrie to 8.30 on Friday. I would then have WR back on Thursdays at 8pm as I reckon that could do enough to dent Emmerdale. I know its unlikely BBC1 will move EE but it would rate better on a Wednesday,a more traditional soap night. Yes it may leave Fridays a little isloated but it would give the BBC1 a chance to try something different and even if they did end up just sticking DIY SOS or Fake Britain at 8pm its more benefical to Eastenders to be on Wednesdays and if they were to use that valuable 8.30 lead in for new comedies then it would be deemed a success.

Who volunteers to do the daily overnights list if all those Olympic channels are reported?

There is no guarantee of what kind of series they would run, but there must be a commitment on the minimum number of hours of programming.

I think another All Star series, running full length, would be one possible alternative.”

I reckon it will be CBB as BB is becoming extremely tired now. No one at work has even mentioned it starting again, unlike during its first seven series when there was more interest. Yes it still has its followers but even most twentysomethings don't care now.

Fair enough I suppose - it just seems a bit isolated at 8pm, so I'm a little surprised they're putting a new show they seem to have a lot of faith in there, especially considering it'll be against live football and possibly also displaced soap episodes, so it could be a tough run for it.

I doubt BBC1 will move EastEnders, they don't usually play those sorts of games plus Coronation Street is only moving back to how it always was, and it seemed to work well enough then.

Blimey, so we'll get overnights for all of the different Olympics channels? Yikes. I think the William documentary tonight will do very well on the back of the Jubilee celebrations.

Dancc, do you think Channel5 will move NCIS to another day in the future? I dunno why a new episode got 1million viewers yesterday, it was getting around 2million a couple of months ago :/. The current series being shown is just as good as previous ones!

It will be interesting to see if the Walking Dead's ratings improve with BB as a lead in next week.

But there's no way to spin it, channel 5 must be extremely disappointed with how TWD's preforming

I'm not sure of the answer, but the other four terrestrials were pretty competitive last night at 9, with BBC2/C4 not far off 2m.

Across primetime the big 5 got 59.3% (62% with +1s) which is above normal.

Wow, great reaction to Kitchen Wars! I thoroughly enjoyed it I have to say. Considering this was C5 Productions' first proper show, I thought it was well produced and highly watchable. Looking forward to seeing how it went down numbers wise.

NCIS' recent run of bad ratings stretches all the way back to 16th May when Lewis started on ITV1, suggesting a large audience overlap and obviously Lewis viewers are not going to switch to NCIS halfway through an episode. In the past it's been fellow crime drama Midsomer Murders that has brought midseason pain to NCIS, but Lewis seems to have had an even worse effect.

It should go back up to more normal levels next week as ITV are switching to repeats. Also worth noting that at 10pm it scored C5+1's 2nd biggest overnight audience ever.

Pleased to see a repeat of Call the Midwife, a show I missed the first time around. Will be interesting to see what numbers it gets tomorrow.

They'll just wonder why 'stEnders has moved for seemingly no reason.”

I still think they should at least be considering the option of running EastEnders Monday-Thursday and ditching the awkward Friday episode. That would also free them up to try new things on Friday night again - maybe put some more entertainment formats there pre-watershed? Or maybe pre-watershed drama? I would have thought it would be fairly easy to sell that to audiences as well.

Iron Chef was buried in daytime and isn't a particularly big successful format though.

I don't think that's strange. The launch night still holds some sense of event television that inflates it. The problem is the general day-to-day highlights don't unless you have some ridiculously overblown controversy and there's really no way to fix that. You can have the most interesting group of people on the planet in the house (and lets face it that'll never happen) but its never going to be enough to get the more casual audience to stick with it night after night. If nothing else the time commitment is just too big. Particularly in a multi-channel era. If anything I think the explosion of multi-channel has really been the death of Big Brother.

I'll be fascinated to see how Call The Midwife des because I can't remember the last time BBC1 repeated a serial like this and it seems a rather strange bit of programming, no matter how successful it was first time around. It'll definitely have trouble holding on to an audience when it was gets punted around during the Euros, when everyone forgets what day's what, especially with a more casual audience this time round. It doesn't work if you miss an episode either, does it?

I still don't really get the hype surrounding The Good Wife. I don't think its by any means awful or anything but it strikes me as a fairly bog standard procedural drama with added sex. They do have an astonishingly awesome collection of guest stars though I'll give them that.

But that its so hyped among the entertainment press and wins awards is the only reason CBS is sticking with it.

What does everyone think the England matches will get next week ratings wise? There's hardly been that much attention so I think 10-11 million tops.
