7.6 per cent for ITV1, is this is a new record low for them? They really need to sort out their summer schedule as for decades they used to trounce BBC 1 in the summer. It is a shame the American miniseries that they were so keen on in the past seem to have died out.

ITV1's share was so low because of the football coverage on BBC One and the tennis coverage (which you have praised) performing badly. I think they need to be more sensible with scheduling at times, maybe aiming for an undesirable demographic just to get their raw figures up when required, but they're never going to be the dominant network they once were. |

Ahh you should, it's great! Bit too much filler chat at the start, but the banter is good and it's quite interesting (to coin a phrase). They won't delay the news by 5 minutes for it though (if that's what you're suggesting?
). Another consideration is that 45-minute runtimes are ideal for selling to Challenge as they convert into a neat one-hour slot with ads.EDIT: Although I suppose Endemol would do the selling, and the BBC get nothing for such sales? In which case the BBC wouldn't have that reason for keeping it at 45 mins. I have seen the final 5 mins or so but i just don't get it ![]() ![]() Much prefer the Weakiest Link |

But it's no longer 1970. ITV is no longer the only commercial broadcaster.; they have constraints which didn't exist back in the days you keep going back to - TV advertising is decreasing and the market itself is increasing. Even if the American miniseries were still alive and kicking they wouldn't bring in much of an audience as the population as a whole no longer view them as must see.

However, you are right, I am defending ITV for buying up a sport they've rarely bothered with and would love for them to expand their sportfolio. |

I could add ITV's audience share peaked at 75 per cent in 1959, then as the BBC launched a fightback in the early sixties, it fell to around 50 per cent and stayed at this level until the mid eighties when a long, slow decline set in with the rise of satellite and digital channels.

ITV's coverage has been pretty good so far for the football, with a few exceptions - amongst them the awful Craig Burley. But overall it certainly feels stronger than their usual effort.

Portugal's loss to Germany attracted over 3 million viewers in Portugal on RTP1, and around a 68% share. The population of Portugal is around 10 million, so that's a big rating.

All-day shares for individuals:
BBC 1: 26.3% ITV1 inc +1: 7.7% [just 5.1% share among 16-34s, behind C4's 6.2%, not too far ahead of C5's 3.4%]Source: C4 Sales Quote:
Yikes, almost a record low! ITV1's lowest ever all-day share was 7.6% (inc +1) on Sunday 14th August. I think there's three dates soon which could have ITV1 recording its worst ever all-day share: next Saturday, the following Saturday or Sunday 1st July.

No as the News can start as soon as Pointless finishes and seeing as The One show always starts and finishes early i don't think it would affect things much. They could drop the pointless News roundup at 7:57.

![]() ![]() Much prefer the Weakiest Link Remember when The Weakest Link was riding high, holding its own with then-popular Millionaire and Anne jetting off to the States to present a version on NBC? It was still the first choice to replace Neighbours in the pre-6pm slot when the soap switched to C5 in 2008. I think over-exposure burned it out and it's now buried in a lunchtime slot on BBC2. Each to his own, but it's Alexander and Richard all the way for me...

Is anyone else surprised Spain v Italy was the afternoon match while Ireland v Croatia is the evening match? I thought the broadcasters would have wanted it the other way round.
I imagine the broadcasters would've preferred France v England to be aired in primetime but I suppose Ukraine got the primetime slot as hosts. |

The BBC has moved Doctors HD repeat to 5:15PM from Tomorrow (was 4:00PM) i wonder if when the HD Channel finishes and all CBBC programes leave BBC1 could Doctors find a 5:00PM BBC1 repeat?
And BBC1 are not going to cut the running time of Pointless just so they can start Doctors at 5pm. They might possibly move Doctors to 4pm (with some 45 minute programme at 4.30pm) or 4.45pm. |

In past tourneys, have Ireland matches got much more ratings than France matches? Both countries are a similar kind of distance away from the UK.

BBC1 had two football matches back to back, ITV filled with an episode of Poirot. Comparing one day with the whole of the 70s and 80s is quite frankly ridiculous. What are your thoughts on the football doing well, when you dislike the sport and were moaning about it the other day? |

And I am confident that England v France will be easily the second highest rated programme this week behind England v Sweden despite the 5pm kick-off. I notice that ITV's programme runs until 7.30 tomorrow overlapping with BBC1's MOTD by 30 minutes. Wonder how that will affect the two programmes' average ratings. Edit: Wonder how big the England-France ratings will be on ITV1+1. All those people who arrive home between 5pm and 6pm. |

If England win, I expect the post-match analysis seriously to dent BBC1's build-up to Ukraine v Sweden (which is hardly top-drawer anyway), as viewers will want to revisit the triumph. Less so if England lose and it's more of a post-mortem.

Yes that makes sense as it's usually on at 4pm on BBC HD. I wonder if two showings within a couple of hours is too much for the main channel, though. Perhaps BBC2 would be better.
That assumes though, and I don't know if that would be correct, there's more viewers around at 4pm than there is at 2pm. |

Ireland match very interesting after only 20 minutes - highest ratings so far with word of mouth?

Or, alternatively, viewers might want to switch to BBC1 to see their highlights and hear their pundits' views on the game.

I actually meant BBC1 moving Doctors from 1.45 to 4pm to try and boost the ratings for what must be one of their more expensive daytime programmes just by virtue of being a drama.
That assumes though, and I don't know if that would be correct, there's more viewers around at 4pm than there is at 2pm. |

Doctors has moved to 5.15 so that BBC HD can simulcast BBC2's coverage of Queen's Tennis (1.30 - 5.15)
And BBC1 are not going to cut the running time of Pointless just so they can start Doctors at 5pm. They might possibly move Doctors to 4pm (with some 45 minute programme at 4.30pm) or 4.45pm.

they could expand pointless to 1 hour, and have something like this
16:30 - Pointless 17:30 - Doctors making Doctors 45 minutes, whilst a better solution is a more expensive solution. Family Guy should do well tonight with BBC 3 airing both "Back to the Pilot" and the pilot together. |

Hope we get Sky Sports F1's live rating in the morning, brilliant race, which I won't spoil the result of.
