I think the Opening Ceremony will be absolutely massive. The buzz will be huge in the week leading up to it. It's the biggest event we have ever held in the UK.

For the record, the "pre-show" starts at 8.12pm, the main ceremony starts at 9pm. It is scheduled to finish at 12am.

It was originally due to be 7.30pm, but Danny Boyle asked for it to be put back for creative reasons (he wants it to be dark). The pre-show was added as a compromise.

It is a 9pm start, to satisfy NBC.

Many of the athletics finals are also after 9pm.

I didn't know NBC held so much influence. That will certainly hit the average over here.

Anywhere between 18-21m must be a possibility with a huge peak, provided the audience holds out until 12am. We could see massive shares when it finishes at 12am.

Yes this is my feeling too. This is an event we've been talking about for years. I imagined the ratings to reflect that.

All repeats except TWD.
Wasn't Robson 'Fishing Rod' Green new?

Monday 4th June Overnights
Channel 5
19:30- World's Most Extreme Airports: 664k (2.7%)
21:00- Robson's Extreme Fishing Countdown: 275k (1%)
22:00- The Walking Dead: 387k (1.5%)
OUCHARAMA!

The Airports show didn't actually do too bad for like its third or fourth showing.

But what followed? Jesus, might as well have shut up shop for the night. I can only assume Bond took a fair few viewers away from Robson/TWD as well as the concert.

Wasn't Robson 'Fishing Rod' Green new?
It was a compilation episode, so basically a repeat.

Can I use up the remaining . 17m+ peak !

BBC2, C5, C5 all expectedly crumbled. ITV1 held up ok, could have been a lot worse for them.

Do we have a rating for the 6:30 - 7:30 One Show Special? That Emmerdale rating and share at 7pm seems low so I was wondering if the One Show did surprisingly well!

Crumbled is quite an understatement. I can't imagine how the minor channels are going to cope against the Opening Ceremony. ITV1 may hold up decently, but BBC2, C4 and C5...well.

A shame DS didn't report The One Show's rating, it might've beaten Emmerdale between 7-7.30pm for I think the first time. 3.0m (inc +1) for the Quantum of Solace repeat is decent, might've got 5m if it had been up against 4m opposition rather than 14m opposition!

ITV actually held quite OK last night. At least they weren't into Tuesday FlopZone territory.

I suppose the bit where all the athletes parade in to the stadium that lasts hours may pull down the average a bit.

I'm pretty sure the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will peak over 20 million as the hype will be huge, on another level to yesterday IMO. But the average is difficult to call as it'll finish pretty late.

The concert and primetime shares indicated that the 19.00-19.30 segment of The One Show had a ~30% share, which is nearly 10 points above normal (and probably did beat Emmers which had 26%).

EDIT: That would be a rating of ~5.75m for the last half-hour of The One Show. The first half will pull down the average figure of course.

Indeed. I don't think anything else other than Bond would have done as well for them last night, so it was reasonable scheduling from the broadcaster and as I noted last night they will miss the films when they go to Sky.

Yep, I think you're right. Probably around a 6m average for The One Show between 7.00-7.30pm last night.

It's slightly embarrassing for ITV1 that their Monday schedule can be pitted against a 14m+ programme and still average higher than a normal Tuesday schedule!

That's a stunning rating for the Diamond Jubilee Concert and well deserved. I should have waited for the hype before making a prediction on the game.

ITV1, as said already, held up ok and I'm surprised Coronation Street held up above 5m. The split, as always, hurt it and I'm not sure why they're so cautious in amalgamting the two episodes. Still, it probably supported Quantum of Solace slightly, which didn't disgrace itself for a repeat. The bizarre scheduling of The Queen and I didn't work out either. The likes of Tonight or Poms in Paradise would've probably did better.

ITV4's rating also shows that maybe ITV1 should've beeen slightly more daring with their French Open scheduling - it's not going to gain a high rating overnight; it'll take time to build recognition.

The remaining channels unsurprisingly collapsed but I'm sure they all expected to. I'm sure people will catch up on what they want to and everything will bounce back to normal levels come next week.

It isn't, Danny Boyle requested it. 8pm or 9pm doesn't make much difference to NBC, they'll be airing it delayed anyway.

Many of the athletics finals are also after 9pm.
Which is the norm for any major Athletics championships.

Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed he will end the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games on July 27.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live he said "I've been booked," and added that he would be "closing the opening".

Why do they keep trundling him out? There is massive criticism of Madonna doing dance stuff at 53 and the UK media calling her the "Queen Mother of Pop" and suggesting she's too old to continue, yet they keep piling on praise for Paul McCartney who's singing is as good as a karaoke singer nowadays and sounds struggling and desperate. Adele would have been a much better choice as she's huge globally at present. That for me has totally spoilt the anticipation of the opening ceremony. I will be in bed when he's on.
