Oh yeah deffinately a good figure for ITV1 and I am sure they will be pleased with those numbers...the match itself in my opinion was not very good at all and I am not a fan of Chiles...obviously how England play is not ITV1's fault..

He's not presenting the game on ITV1 at the moment.

I remember one of the results of this economy drive was that 100%, the youth show with Trevor and Simon, had its second series cancelled at the last minute.

Summer 1993 was dreadful, they were repeating The House of Eliot on Saturday nights and apparently it was getting under two million viewers (it says in Fuzzy Monsters, although I question whether anything could go that low in 1993). It was good for me though because I remember the Beeb repeating a load of alternative comedy shows that summer, like Fry and Laurie and the first series of Alas Smith and Jones from ten years before, and it was only a few years after I'd been allowed to stay up late so most of them were new to me.

Only one of the Who repeats was in black and white, because the colour version of the episode had been wiped, But I remember in the first issue of SFX (the only issue I ever bought) in 1995, they did a feature about all that had happened to Doctor Who since it ended in 1989, and the chances of it coming back, and the 1993 repeats were apparently of pivotal importance, I remember them saying "Good news - Alan Yentob moves from BBC2 to BBC1 and so do the Who repeats!" in the assumption he was a fan.

In Will Wyatt's book (I'll quote the whole of this book in due course), it points out that Westbeach was actually the other soap that was being considered with Eldorado, and initially they all preferred Westbeach, before the pedigree of Eldorado and the ability to flog it abroad convinced them otherwise. But as you say, Westbeach eventually resurfaced as a conventional hour-long drama.

Seaforth is also in the book, they had high hopes for it and Alan Yentob really liked it, he watched the first episode and told everyone it was going to be a smash hit, but it didn't rate so well and was too expensive so it was finally axed. That Independent story was on the front page and Wyatt says it comes to something when the decision not to recommission a drama series becomes front page news. I remember the Radio Times doing a piece around th time speculating about whether it would return and discussing which dramas had and hadn't been axed, I remember it announced Grushko was never coming back (surely the archetypal miserable BBC1 early nineties drama, a police series set in Russia).

Not helped by it being flung from pillar to post during Euro 96, a mistake they repeated two years ater with Berkeley Square, the nanny drama that was shoved all over the place, 8pm one week, 10pm the next, on a Saturday one week, proving it was just ridiculous to schedule a twelve-part serial during a World Cup.

I used to watch quite a lot of Specials because it was before Points of View. I remember the credit every week in Radio Times rather portentiously stating "Created, Written, Produced and Directed by Brian Degas and Harry Robertson". Perhaps if someone else had been involved, it might not have been so rubbish. I doubt the Beeb thought much of it though as it was flung out on Wednesdays at eight, their worst slot on their worst night, and when they showed football one week it was dumped at 10.30.

All old, that, wasn't it?”

I wish the BARB data went back as far as 1990 so we could see how the channels preformed in this era...would be interesting for ratings fans!

Is it possible in the daily roundups to show the 5 o'clock programmes such as Pointless and The Chase (when applicable due to footie) as Doctors makes the BBC list ?

It depends if those ratings are reported.

BBC/ITV Schedules: Lots of sport and lots of filler/repeats. New Tricks repeats return Fri 29th June at 9pm on the former. Benidorm repeats switch from Mondays to Thursdays on the latter. Turn Back Time: The Family starts its 5-part run on Tue 26th June at 9pm on BBC One. Strictly Kosher meanwhile returns to ITV1 on Mon 25th June at 9pm, continuing the next night at the same time.

Channel 4 Schedules: Attack The Block (2011) premieres on Sun 24th June at 10.10pm. Gordon Ramsay: Behind Bars starts Tue 26th June at 8pm.

Channel 5 Schedules: Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads returns to Channel 5 on Fri 29th June at 8pm. Series 2 of The Bachelor starts Fri 29th June at 10pm.

When I was a kid I was always fascinated by ratings, this was about 1982 onwards. My mum used to get 'The Sun' **clears throat** and they always had a top 10 or top 20 barb shows that week. I believe someone mentioned a website recently that uploaded some of these early barb charts.

Did that NCIS on 5USA last night rate not far behind the episode that was on the main channel Friday night ?

not sure who is playing tonight, but might ITV finally see a resting of the ITV Flop Zone tonight? Certainly if its an England game, even allowing for the fact its airing during the Tuesday Flop Zone, it should be able to get 5 million viewers.

I remember the TV charts in The Sun during the 80's and 90's and the Radio Times use to print a top 10 of what the nation watched for the five terrestrial channels it stopped in 2002 when BARB started a new panel.

Correct. It's the same with the likes of Poirot on ITV though isn't it? Rates well for ITV3 on repeat but when they stick it on the main channel it doesn't get much of a boost.

Also the NCIS two-parter they showed on Friday 'Judgement Day' was shown only a few months ago on the main channel and it rated well then:

NCIS (FRI 17 FEB 2159) 1.08m
NCIS (FRI 17 FEB 2256) 1.06m

So it was maybe a bit soon to repeat these episodes again.

It would be great to get more ratings (though we are kind of spoiled as it is!!) but D.M.N. and rzt etc..do heaps of ratings posting here and put in countless hours per week. Shows like The Chase & Pointless don't really fluctuate too much - both hover between 2m-2.5m (excluding celeb versions).

I do think that C4 Sales ought upload all their evening shows, why cherry pick them? If the raw data is there, then upload it to their website.

Another example of BBC arrogance, completely failing to acknowledge the fall in ratings and how although it may have a higher average compared to other recent entertainment power houses, shows like Strictly and X Factor grew throughout the series, not collapsed.

Still think it would have been worth giving it a shot on C4 as a direct replacement for Desperate Housewives. The one good thing about it too is it seems to be doing it's business rather quietly both here and in the US so has a chance of staying of Sky's radar.

Seriously - they're putting a Gordon Ramsay series BEFORE the watershed. I really give up on C4 scheduling!

Attentional regularly report the ratings for the gameshows but due to Euro 2012 they have been squeezed out of their daily tables recently.

C4 Sales used to post a more exhaustive list of ratings. I remember in the early days of Film4 they would post ratings for pretty much the whole day's schedule!

Flopzone rules don't apply to Euro football or BGT. I can see this first game Greece v Czech Republic rating 4.5m and then 5.5m for Russia v Poland.

Yet the return of the ECL to Tuesdays and FA Cup replays can alleviate the flopzone to an extent. Also ITV will just be happy to show drama repeats when the football isn't on as the cheap factual and reality in the post Emmerdale slots isn't working.

The Tuesday flop zone is in it's final days, soon it will only appear maybe 1 or 2 times per month depending on what they decide to show, which isn't really much of a zone.
