Yep, and whatever big hyped event comes up, there's always more people that get pissed off with the hype. I watched nowt of the Royal twattery that went on recently, and I wasn't alone.

That Eastenders entry is, I believe, the total for 3 showings of the Christmas Day episode.

Imagine what the BBC would give for Eastenders to get that figure now

As many others have pointed out, we now have 50+ channels that aren't showing something in particular. I ignore most hype, I turn on the football just before kick off, then switch over at full time.

Some people are just easily annoyed by trivial things...

Ratings reveal that average audiences are up on comparable weeks, versus soaps, dramas etc... and the football broadcasts are a lot longer.

There is absolutely no chance of it topping 30m - indeed about as much chance as England reaching the final of a football tournament.

If it were to happen I'd say you'd be looking at 22-25m absolute max, but even that is optimistic for a Euros final. A World Cup might be a different matter, but I couldn't see it topping 16m or so on BBC1, and then ITV making up the difference, so probably 20m or so.

Ireland are going out of Euro 2012. Will BBC1 now show the more important and exciting Spain v Croatia match on Monday, the winner of which will go through and loser probably will go out? Or will they still show the Ireland game in which the Irish are playing just for pride to avoid an embarrassing 0 points.

You'd think the former. They will be showing both anyway on BBC1/3, so Irish diehards can watch there.

Big result for ITV though, denying BBC1 a crunch Irish nailbiter. GeorgeS will be ecstatic...

I had to laugh about the ratings for a nuclear war. Having watched the DVD of Threads recently, news and Protect and Survive adverts were all the programming was made up of on the last day of civilisation, but who would be able to count who had watched all this plus the first bombs falling.

ITV having the first 2 ireland matches is one part of the bbc/itv split that is in favour of ITV so you can hardly hold it against them, it's as if they expected this to happen.

The BBC have lots in their favour towards the business end of the tournament.

I'm a bit of a few nationalities. I'm finding Spain's performance to be fantastic. Exhibition stuff.

And will the BBC show Ireland on Monday night on BBC1 or move it to BBC3. Ratings versus football relevance? Italy should beat Ireland and end up on 5 points; Croatia if they draw versus Spain get 5 points. If they win they go through. To me the Spain vs Croatia game is now the more relevant one.

Spain as the world champions also get great ratings too for their matches. I think Spain v Croatia match will be a cracker, both playing well and should be a better feast of football than the Italians playing Ireland. I think BBC-1 will still show Ireland match just cos of the significant Irish community in the UK but imo the Spain match deserves the BBC1 treatment because it's the game which has the biggest bearing on the group.

I'd be surprised if they didn't show Ireland, but Spain v Croatia should do quite well for BBC3.

What sort of ratings have the alternative games on BBC3/ITV4 got in previous tournaments?

In Holland this would probably equate to 26 million viewers over here and in Germany to 18 million.

Ireland v Croatia match rated lower than the two Germany games and not much higher than the Spain v Italy 5pm kick-off match. Don't see Ireland delivering mega-ratings.

Radio Times lists BBC1's Monday night MOTD as Ireland v Italy or Spain v Croatia. ITV appear to have decided beforehand to screen Netherlands v Portugal on ITV1 and Germany v Denmark on ITV4. Will ITV put ratings before football relevance now that Germany have established themselves as the second biggest ratings draw of the tournament?

Germany are through and should beat the Danes. So the Netherlands match is the crucial one.

And you've just said ITV are putting Germany on ITV4. I'm confused about your point?

I know its never gonna happen but if Itv put England v Ukraine on Itv4, how many less viewers do you think it'd get than if it was on Itv1? It would smash digital rating records by a country mile and never get beaten again.

Judging by tonight, Ireland though they were in the Eurovision Song Contest. Maybe they can play Jedward against Italy?

I would probably drag myself to watch it, same as I half heartedly watched the last England Euros semi final in 1996, or the last 10 minutes of it. I just find the whole sport boring and can't see why I have to prove I'm English by having to cheer on people like Wayne Rooney. Millions of men feel the same but to say it isn't the right thing in certain circles.

Do I have to spell everything out in block capitals?
Spoiler

edit: and for the record, I'm jesting and don't believe for one second that ITV will change their plan.
