Best Royal Variety Performance ever - minus the variety that would be.

I'd imagine BBC1, ITV1, Sky News and the odd digital channel, with BBC2 probably repeating it later. I doubt C4 or C5 will air it live, but might air it later at the end of the news.

Wow, massive peak.”
Truly massive.

Amazing figures, but well deserved.

So true - and William and Harry (plus the death of Diana) has a lot to do with that IMO with the younger generation having grown up with them. I think Charles is also much more appreciated now than he was 10-15 years ago when Diana was still fresh in the mind and him having to raise William and Harry single handledly (ignoring the dozens of servants!) kind of made him somebody people could identify with more.
It remains to be seen whether we reach a Platinum Jubilee but I guess the next big royal celebration could well be the coronation of King Charles.

BBC1 had an audience 25 times bigger than Sky News.”
So Twitter clearly had no bearing on ratings with the BBC extending their lead throughout the afternoon as the criticism came in.

No reason why it couldn't - all comes down to scheduling, but 7m people watched Steve Redgrave win his gold medal after midnight back in 2000, so I'd expect more to be watching as the flame is lit in just a few weeks time.

It's nothing to do with NBC - they'll screen it delayed four hours later rather than live, and the same with the athletics finals, even though flagship events like the 100m final will be at 5pm ET in the USA.
It was moved to 9pm so it takes place in darkness - and I think last night showed that is a wise move as the concert didn't really kick into gear until darkness fell last night.
It's scheduled to finish at midnight - but these opening ceremonies always seem to be scheduled for 3 hours but generally go on past the 4 hour mark. Everything we've seen so far of the torch relay and the turnout this weekend though suggests to me the ratings really will be huge though - and I think based on anticipation of the event should beat the Jubilee.
