Ouch at Emmerdale! That's the lowest I've ever seen. It was an awful episode too.

The lowest Emmerdale overnight rating which I can find was 3.1m on Wednesday 5th July 2006 between 9.30-10pm. That episode was up against the tail-end of the World Cup semi-final between France and Portugal which peaked at 11.6m. During that World Cup 2006 tournament, there were about 5 episodes of Emmerdale which averaged around the 3.5m mark.

Thought Em Fm did ok - granted not as popular against the football as a ten year old Inspector Lynley repeat, but still credible...

Not sure how you could ever measure that as each pub will be different. Mind you there probably wouldn't be a shortage of volunteers to sit in pubs at BARB's expense and count the customers.Perhaps you could take a cross-section of pubs and work out the percentage figure.

Woah ok that seems "low." I feel a bit silly talking up a 20m peak now. Even leaving aside the 20m, it could have at least done an 18m! I suppose there is still time for an 18m next week though and the hype should increase after a 5 goal thriller match. I will stop making 20m peak predictions now though (until the semi-final )

ps - 16.25m is still a brilliant rating by any normal day-to-day standards.

16.25 million and a 60% share is low George ? Have a good flight.

What possibly counted against it was that it wasn't a group decider, every game from now is a decider and that should boost ratings.

Surprised though at the peak ratings especially when you consider the overall match rating.

I was eating out last night and lots of people were watching in the bar area. We could estimate a couple of million were watching in pubs/clubs throughout the UK.

It would be nice to see a reach figure, how many actually turned over at some point to check the score. Another interesting figure would be audience shares in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland for England matches.

I am going to make a rash prediction now that 13m will average for the Ukraine match broadcast, as it is a group decider. The match average will be 16m and the peak will be 19m... making it the highest ITV1 Tuesday rating for a very long time.....

Emmerdale and Lewis highly dented, BB held up okay last night.

6.69m for BBC News

Indeed. Impressive viewing share for the England match, albeit expected.

A quarter-final against Spain would certainly bring in the record peak for the year.

Bloody French and Ukrainian wimps - scared of a little bit of lightning and dragging down the BBC1 programme average.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Either way last nights rating was 3rd highest (bar launch), behind Monday's show and Thursdays show. And beat last weeks eviction by over 130k.

It is consistent though - wouldn't be a fair comparison really to begin adding pub data into the officials and overnights now, and if anything considering a dozen pubs are closing every week it should be becoming less and less of a factor.

If any match was going to rate 13m, it would have been last nights match. Only a draw is needed in the next match so if England score early in the game, it will just be a formality. Can't see it rating any higher than last night's game

Last night's game was kind of odd. With that many twists and turns and plenty of goal action it should have been a great game and yet it wasn't. 16m seems excellent for a game between two average sides that are/were not well fancied in the tournament.

Whilst I can't say the same for Emmerdale or Lewis, Million Pound Drop held up a lot better than I expected. Good rating in the circumstances.

BB still going well also. With a big (ish) character leaving last night, the fear is that it could affect the show moving forwards but hopefully not.

As far as statistical sampling is concerned. it would be an impossible task, and therefore any results obtained would be impossible to extrapolate with any degree of certainty.

We saw the weakness of the England defence last night with two Sweden goals. I think Ukraine will dominate the first half on Tuesday, I can't see England staying level in the first 45 minutes. The rating will build and build.... So many eventualities France, Ukraine or England to go through to last 8. I assume a 1-0 loss and England would go out on goal difference to France even if France lose? Of course Sweden could shock France and win 3-0!!

It is George S though, according to the Official Ratings Thread Posting Rules, it is decreed that he must apply a negative spin on any BBC figures.

as the match was delayed 15 mins, if they'd come on a bit later (say 19:30), imagine what the overall rating would have been then
