I really don't think you understand E4 at all. Although they do have areas where they have common interests and aim for a similar demo I think they both quite clearly have different directions - E4 is much more reliant on scripted content (both original and imported) with ITV2 more heavily reliant on unscripted, plus E4 knows it's identity and is pretty much a brand in it's own right while ITV2 still to an extent relies on it's association with ITV1 - though that is getting less and less with every passing year.

Mal Young also lowered himself to Desperate Scousewives too. I can't stand the genre myself - can't think who it was but read a quote the other day which sums it up - to paraphase it's basically a hybrid of a poorly produced reality show and a poorly scripted drama.
I would be much more inclined to watch something like TOWIE if it was a genuine fly on the wall documentary.
