Am I right in thinking ITV will probably be a bit gutted that England finished top of their group. It looks as though the BEEB have got Quarter final 4 live on Sunday. If as expected England were runners up, it would have been live on ITV on Saturday.

The BBC always had first choice of the quarter finals so they would have always shown the England match. They're showing both semi finals as well. So if England did get that far ratings could be massive.

If England are not in the final I suspect ITV will not compete with the BBC over it. The BBC has played a canny game with its match selections.

They didn't compete in 2008, they showed Midsomer Murders instead of the final they shared the rights to!

Having decided to let the BBC have both semifinals this time in return for the pick of the group games, I think they have to show the final or else they are packing up and heading home on Saturday.

I've heard of teams heading home, but not the broadcasters!

I went for 12.2m for England on RPG and 3.0m for HC, so my crystal ball was just a little foggy!

We can expect bumper ratings on Thurs-Sun for the 4 matches. I think my 12.7m slot average for England-Italy might now be 1.3m too low, but we will see, hopefully no penalties!!

Quite low for EE, but dented England build up for sure. BB pretty stable. Has anyone seen Cricket on 5 rating mentioned? I can see the first 45 minutes rating well before England game kicked off.

be fun on here if they do

BBC1 has both Semi Finals exclusively, ITV1 will wonder if its worth staying for final if England go out.

ITV1 decided Ireland games were a better prospect than 1st pick on semi-finals...which could be ratings gold...

So, BBC1 are showing the Thurs & Sun Matches & ITV1 are showing Fri& Sat.

How come BBC1 get to show both semis next wed/thu ?

20-06-2012
There was a picking round, ITV1 got 2x England games and 2 x Ireland games. BBC1 chose 1x England, the Quarter-final 1st pick, both Semi-finals.

With hindsight ITV1 ought have ditched an Ireland game for QF 1st pick. England getting to a SF would be pretty unexpected.

That is what ITV get for believing the general hype that England were rubbish and wouldn''t get beyond the group and so were thinking short term money infusions and didn't think what would happen if England actually got through.

Serves them right for short term greed.

20-06-2012
So what was the actual match average figure for last night?

Seems clear from the earlier breakdown that it was >15.3m that the Jubilee Concert got. Though it won't ever get to no 1 in the Top 30 chart because the Italy game, which will beat it, is in the same BARB reporting week...

But it will take 2nd anyway.

What about BBC3 - it's not on their schedule at all for Friday. 1930 is useless for me, but I dont fancy 0130...

Wish broadcasters (particularly the public service BBC) would take a gamble and decide games in advance so we don't have all this alternative schedule nonsense, not having a clue when shows are on

I guess CSI was to be expected, as was the BBC 1 numbers, but it a shame considering how it introduced a new major character.

Also going back to the before mention "Week of Soap Armageddon", there is actually only 3 slots without a soap on, in that week. (Monday - Friday, 7pm - 9pm)

Slot 1 - Tuesday 8pm
Slot 2 - Tuesday 8:30
Slot 3 - Wednesday 8pm

the BBC cant make that decision without ITV. Also BBC and ITV will have quite detail negations about how they share the football.

As for EE, you are right, its not scheduled on BBC 3, its going to cause confusion.

Basically BBC's picks were more optimistic. ITV wanted most group games, made sense as they'd be guaranteed good ratings. They didn't think England would do much better than that so the BBC thought right, let's have 1st pick of quarters and the semis. If England get to the semi final it'll prove to be a wise decision by Auntie. We'll see.
