I suspect people's PVR's are quite full after the weekend, tonight may be catch-up TV if anything. (Corrie, Vera, Apprentice, maybe even the concert if people missed bits)

The point about McCartney is that he's universal - there'll hardly be a person in the stadium (people from 200+ countries, don't forget) who won't know him and some of his most famous songs. McCartney doesn't have to perform, cause the crowd do it for him. Which makes him perfect for a closing sing-song at the end of an artistic ceremony that won't really include many music acts at all.

Most of the music, I understand, will be at the closing ceremony - which is billed as a "symphony of British music". If that line up is as staid and safe as McCartney and chums, then I'll agree with the complaints. But I don't think it will be.

Apologies - this is woefully off topic. Of course none of this will impact the ratings here at home - though internationally, attaching a name like McCartney to the ceremony can only help.

Maybe even catching up on shows not broadcast on BBC/ITV as well Dave? You never know, stranger things have happened.

The French Open peaked with 1.23m on ITV4 yesterday. Its 3.0% all-day share was from what I recall, the channel's highest ever all-day share.

The first dozen pages of every paper wasn't full of the Jubilee though in the latter half of last week.


I think most of us old BB fans now admit the show has moved on beyond us and no longer cares about bringing back the viewers it has lost in recent years, but even so reading the snippets of info about the launch and the housemates today and it is certainly a feeling of seen it all before.


Well they do round here actually! The point is Big Brother has gone from being fairly creative with it's twists over the first 7-8 years to now just rehashing old twists and expecting the same result - so new fans are being sold short, and even if it's still running in five years time I doubt C5 is cementing the sort of foundations with a new generation of viewers that C4 did with Big Brother which saw viewers stick around year after year after year.

The same can be said for many long running shows though - will the new Corrie fans of today be as loyal as those who started watching in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s?


Although on Tuesdays most people seem to find something to watch away from the main five channels, so presumably many are in a routine that doesn't involve the big five.

I wish mine was.

I put stuff on record and it just accumulates so fast and half of it I never get round to watching.

A lot just ends up deleted to make space for more stuff that probably won't get watched.

My first choice now for when there's nothing on the channels is Netflix, which I can't recommend enough.

Lol, it really makes no difference. BB didn't have a cat in hell's chance of coverage outside of Desmond's papers whether it was a slow news day or not.

It was pretty much the same in January (bar a tiny bit of speculation about what celebs might be going in) and very much the same in September.

At least this way there's a chance people might be jubilee-d out (as I am) and looking for something undemanding to round off the long weekend.

The pub were I work was very quiet this lunchtime, far quieter than yesterday. Might suggest a lot of people staying at home to watch the jubilee on TV this afternoon

Yeah, I had to delete a lot of programmes when my old PVR started playing up recently. I tried everything to get it working properly, but it wasn't to be, so I just watched the most important recordings (with difficulty) and bought a new PVR afterwards.

Assuming same format as today (which I think is highly likely), Murray will be 2nd on court tomorrow after a womens singles quarter-final.

That makes the start time pretty predictable - ie almost certainly somewhere between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

Surely that warrants ITV1. It must be better than daytime filler - not just for tomorrow but as others have said to build the profile of the event and encourage subsequent viewing on ITV4.

There would be a decent chance of the match ending by 6pm. If it goes past 6pm then it can switch to ITV4.

True, but I think in all honesty the days of Big Brother attracting a mainstream casual audience are now long over. There is the new generation of BB die hards who'll have been counting down the days like I used to do, and I guess like with every channel that C5 has a small "casual" audience of it's own but ultimately I think they'll be happy with anything above 2m tonight.

Be interesting to see what channels broadcast The Queen's message. I presume the normal ones who do the Christmas message, however it's on Radio 1, which is very unusual indeed, so that might indicate its more widespread.

Yes, that is definately what I would do tomorrow. Indeed we're missing the dual coverage today - it didn't matter so much in the first week but having had it on Sunday and now being at a point where big matches are happening simultaneously they could have done with coverage on both ITV1 and ITV4.

(Though Eurosport are showing both the Djokovic and Federer matches live on their two channels).

ITV are doing a good job so it seems a bit churlish to criticise but at the same time it does seem ridiculous that neither the Nadal or Federer quarter-finals will be shown! (Or only bits will be shown).

I think the days when it was headline news are long gone and only the devoted fans will be watching and even some of them said never again after last year. It's still good for 1.5 million, but should it slip below a million then it should be curtains for it.
The celeb one seems to have more life and ratings potential and this should pull in 2.5 million.
However, at least Channel 5 have backed off from copying ITV2 type reality shows after Billion Dollar Girl and It's All About Amy stiffed. This was a concern of a few people on here that they were moving to the bottom of the market.

Nope as normal service will be resumed when Emmerdale starts. My award for absolutely nothing remotely jubileelike goes for ITV2, who were showing the same tired BGT clips show this morning to an audience of three people and a dog, who might be a performer next year.
