Tropo here developing tonight:

87.6 RTBF Classic 21 (weak)
88.9 RTL Radio (Luxembourg) weak to fair
100.7 Radio 100,7 (Luxembourg) fair to good (up to 2 bars on the Denon TU-800L)
102.5 hr4 Grosser Feldberg (weak, heard just over an hour ago)
107.4 SWR 4 RP presumed from Koblenz (weak, heard a couple of times so far)

I have a nasty feeling that my fun will be spoiled soon by that noise but we'll see...

Hi Nick, just wondering if the noise could be from a neighbours plasma TV? My neighbour has one and the whole mw band is ruined when it's on and I hear the noise in places on fm too!

In addition to the big three transmitters mentioned previously, just about any station from County Cork is coming over the North West Devon this morning. The usual transmissions from Nowen Hill, as well as 4FM on 94.8

Community station 'Life FM' from Cork City is pretty strong. I have no idea of the strength of that transmission but I expect it is only a few Watts.

It could be a plasma TV. To be honest I've given up trying to guess what might be the cause. If it helps here's a couple of clips to demonstrate what it sounds like:

https://app.box.com/s/wzy0qapjbxvfbko2tqbb (tuned to 87.7, a clear channel)

https://app.box.com/s/z2zhe04w4ho3vxsp53a0 (tuning around either side of BBC Radio 3 Rowridge)

Been hearing a bit of Lille and various BBCs and Classics over the last couple of days.

Kool FM is back on 89.4! Can anyone else in Norwich hear this?

Yes,it's a big signal this evening. Alot of Dutch stations also enhanced. According to Hepburn things should start to build on the east coast around midnight.

For a good couple of hours yesterday I was able to receive NRK P1 on 94.2 and NRK Petre on 91.8, both from the Bjerkreim transmitter near Stavanger, Norway. I recorded a few videos which I'll post on YouTube later. Both signals are 37 KW and the transmitter is 630km (391 miles) from me.

I will be very interested to see the videos. I have yet to have any confirmed reception from Scandanavia.

Not much happening in Norfolk tropo wise. Have you had any of these Norwegian stations RDS yet. What about Denmark and Sweden?

Does anybody know if there are band 2 switch off dates set in Europe? I heard a rumour of 2015 for Norway or Denmark which I'm hoping is incorrect.

I didn't get any RDS on them yesterday when they were coming in, but I have had a couple of these before with RDS, and these can be seen on my YouTube channel as well. I received a few Denmark stations but nothing from Sweden as far as I know. Anyway here's some more videos for you, here's a couple more from Saturday.

Yes it is, I just use fmscan.org to find the strongest transmitter. I used to watch a lot of Norwegian/Danish/Swedish TV on my satellite dish. Most of the imported programmes were left in English with local subtitles.

If anybody is interested I have a Kenwood KT 6040 for sale.It has been modified with four 150khz filters for wide, two 150khz,one 110 kHz and one 80 kHz for normal and three 110 kHz plus three 80 kHz for narrow. If you don't like this brew simply lift off the lid and plug in a different combination. No soldering is necessary as sockets have been fitted. The tuner is fully working and in good condition for its age. I bought this in Austria so it has a two pin European plug. It's more sensitive than the Sony xdr F1 and as selective using normal and narrow modes.
