^Speaking of tropo, I forgot to mention that there was a small tropo to Germany yesterday evening as well. Brocken was the best signal, up to 1 bar and noise-free, although Teutoburger, Steinkimmen and possibly Biedenkopf was also heard as well as weak pops on 101.0. Yesterday was quite a good day for DXing!

Nick, what tuner do you use?

I use a Sony XDR-F1HD for E-skip reception as it is extremely selective and has RDS. Some of these north Africans don't seem to have RDS on all their stations yet though.

https://app.box.com/s/jxqj39yc1075p6qkw82lu90c7bc5wx6h (105.5 first recording)

https://app.box.com/s/lffil4kp0x929kdwutwlx0944o31kyft (105.5 with sermon)

https://app.box.com/s/6tw6e1dea4a49stieukf48d63bcn8hhr (105.0 with same)

Both are listed in FMLIST under Libya as "ex LJBC Al-Quran al-Kareem" so I think Libya is a fairly safe bet.

The French in the background on 105.5 when Libya fades is France Info, enhanced due to tropo.”

Well it appears that the station on 105.5 is an unlisted Tunisian, possibly from the Ksour Essaf tx south of Monastir. Another DXer who also heard this station has been doing some digging and was given this info. I wonder where 105.0 is from then as this had the same sermon?

Tropo alert! I have a very weak Euskadi Irratia on 88.9 from Bilbao with slow fades. Hepburn maps do suggest tropo down that way today.

Did anyone else hear anything yesterday? Around 8.15 yesterday morning I heard a Dutch-speaking station on 105.5, probably this:

105.50 HOL Scheldemond FM Oostburg/Watertoren zee

Egem, Lille and some BBC locals and Hearts were also up but I didn't have much time to listen. Everything seemed to have gone by the time I drove home at 16.30.

Es earlier on to Spain and Morocco right up to the top of the band. Melilla was heard on 107.6 (RNE Clasica) and one interesting log was a YL reading the news in slightly accented English on 87.8 with a lot of articles about the Arab world so presumably Morocco or Algeria? The signal was weak but with slow fades and quite a difficult copy due to adjacent channel splatter. It didn't sound like the lively style of a tourist/ex-pat station, but more like the international programmes that are aired on short-wave.

I hope there's more to come!

Es about again - Medi 1 from Morocco on & off on 87.6.

Band getting very busy at times now with plenty from Morocco and southern Spain.

Dead since about 7.40 pm here.

Managed to log Radio Gibraltar on 92.6 with a soft pop song in parallel with the web stream. I recorded it but it faded out before I caught an ID.

Also a station on 99.5 playing Arabic rap/RnB which on accasion had an English language station cross-fading giving football results in a BBC local radio style. Presumably a station in Spain for tourists/ex-pats.

My freeview signal has got worse here though it might have been Atmospherics but it says

SUDBURY transmitter - Freeview: BBC Digital TV Weak Signal from 13:50 on 19 May to 14:33 on 19 May, HD Digital TV Weak Signal from 10:28 on 20 May to 11:24 on 20 May. [BBC]

Its not that good for me tonight.
Lucky I can turn round to Dover.

Es again to the same areas as yesterday - Spain & Morocco. Has been going right up to the top of the band.

Dead since about 2.30 but the maps still have potential towards the Balkans or Italy.

Radio Drininoupoli on 89.0 from Ioannina in Greece has been in on & off on 89.0 for a good while with a children's programme. It's by far the most reliable Es signal.

I think the North African openings this weekend have been favouring southern England.

I have some more clips to upload from yesterday but I'm waiting to fill the CD-R up.

Nothing so far today apart from a fade-up of disco music on 87.8 at 1146 for about 15-20 seconds, probably from Italy.

The link to the recording of 99.5 is incorrect. It should be https://app.box.com/s/5aux2plkcxuqv87t6147hn94okvbysp0

Thanks to some help from Paul Logan and Ruud Brand I have some IDs for a few of the recordings above:

89.8 is SNRT Chaine Inter from Béni-Mellal/Tazerkounte promoting a festival in Fes

92.2 and 95.3 (French news) is actually Medi 1, not Radio Mars. 92.2 is from the Taliouine site (quite a long way south) and 95.3 is Tanger.

The English sport on 99.5 (at one point a 5 Live ID is given) is BFBS Radio 2 from Gibraltar.

Es dropped out here about an hour ago. Just before it dropped away there was an interesting signal on 91.1 with African-sounding tribal drumming and horns. No idea what this was; perhaps it was Amazight/Berber?

Toulouse still hanging on on 87.9 despite a light shower recently. It was 1 bar/noise-free stereo at around 7.40 pm.

Aha, you may have just solved my mystery signal in the car at about 19:10 this evening on 87.9, it was French and they were talking about Eurovision, but there was no RDS and it disappeared before I could get an ID.

It might have been Jon although it could also have been Es from somewhere like Morocco. There's a station called SNRT Inter on 87.9 that has a lot of French programming.

Was the signal behaving like an Es signal or more like tropo?
