Still several Danish and Swedish signals coming in here. This has been the most amazing tropo lift to Scandinavia (and Poland) that I have ever known. Hours of stuff needs to be gone through and uploaded.

I've had next to nothing- A bit of tropo from within the UK (Sutton Coldfield for instance), but nowt from elsewhere. The south facing antenna isn't helping. Time for a rotator I think- any reommendations?

I had loads more Danish stuff at around 11 last night. According to FM List, my furthest transmitter was 501 miles away: "København-Gladsaxe/Isbanevej 4". 6 countries heard yesterday, 7 if you include the UK.

Great Tropo Opening
Hi folks.
My greatest distance reception last night has to be this http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8qby8k20.jpg http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...psng6p0rdo.jpg Poland Koszalin/Gołogóra 1136km 23:20 - 2.10.15 Fantastic reception on Tropo. It was there for hours, with instant RDS, just like a local station! Chris (Lincoln, UK) |

Just been up Broadway Tower in the very south east of Worcestershire and had Today FM on 100.9 from Three Rock Mountain with RDS. The other Three Rock RTÉ stations were there very faintly behind splatter from BBC Nationals too.

at 23:45 last night the dutch stations faded. I was tuned into one as it disappeared. An hour and 15 minutes later, the German and Danish stations were back and strong. This morning, it was mainly Danish stations, but they were gone by 11:00. The one that broadcasts on longwave was on FM so I could hear it on both at the same time. The delay on FM is about the same as Radio 4 in some parts of the country. I'm surre there used to be no delay between BBC FM transmitters.
I had the great sensation of the Dutch and Danish stations on 92.6 FM last night. The Dutch stations are quite lively at night on Friday. Very different to radio in the UK. |

I don't know if it is DX per se, but Wenvoe was very strong in Birmingham today. Both Radio Cymru and Classic FM were stopping the seek on the radio.

Disappointed I missed the DAB/FM propagation. I noticed it was really good yesterday and last night on the AM bands. Fingers crossed for another lift this autumn.

Picking up 3 stations at once on 91.8 MHz tonight, including something foreign. Either German or Dutch; too much interference to be able to make it out.

I wasn't getting anything exciting down here on the Isle of Wight, but there were a few weird things. On Friday afternoon I was hearing a BBC station on 103.7 FM, which I then heard a Yorkshire accent and checked with the web feed to confirm I was hearing BBC Radio York.
Also on 105.6 I was hearing The Breeze from Yeovil coming in quite well. Both received on an indoor dipole on the windowsill! |

Tropo 1-3 October 2015
Well, after a frustrating first half of the week, with high pressure well and truly in control and the forecasts of good tropo not materialising I had begun to lose hope in this high ever delivering the goods. However, on the evening of Thursday, 1st of October, it happened, and how! The band opened up to northern Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Previously I had only ever heard Sweden on a couple of channels over the years via tropo, and I had never heard Norway. Amazingly NRK Petre on 95.0 even produced 3 bars and RDS for a while from Lyngdal during the late evening. My previous tropo distance record of 1116 km (SR P1 on 87.7 from Halmstad) was well and truly shattered during this tropo, with several transmitters heard at >1200 km.
The lift probably peaked on Friday 2nd October. I didn't log Norway on the 2nd but there was still plenty of activity from Sweden, Denmark and northern Germany. The most distant log of the opening was heard this morning, a very weak SR P1 on 87.6, almost certainly from Visby at 1451 km: https://app.box.com/s/ocl0hzz8ft2uxj93u5zdu38u9s42u5za By the time I had returned home from work early on Friday afternoon, conditions were sparser, but started to intensify again towards the late afternoon. Finally, at around tea time on the Friday, I had my first ever loggings of Poland via tropo, and not just to the nearest part, like Szczecin. The first signal IDed turned out to be Radio ZET on 105.0 from Gdańsk at 1371 km! https://app.box.com/s/t4h9l7de0a5xbyd1sup4h2eig7as320q Over the next hour or two I heard a handful of Polish tropo signals, from Gdańsk or Koszalin, peaking with RMF FM on 98.4 from Gdańsk at 2 bars/solid stereo: https://app.box.com/s/fe3zhbks6hxepro5f9fmr7b1khu5pm8n Poland was around on & off until maybe 1930 UTC (8.30 pm local). The conditions to Sweden and Denmark continued to be good for the rest of the evening of the 2nd. By the morning of the 3rd October (Saturday) There were still a few signals from Denmark and Sweden but they were mostly weak. Norway also popped up briefly on 87.8 too. By late morning the long-distance DX had gone. The entire folder of DX recordings from this tropo can be found here for those that are interested: https://app.box.com/s/gjrwvguroyd1xbzdba1qlgjnax6wngtq If you want to go through them in chronological order go the View Options (up-down arrow icon) and 'Sort By Date' - point the arrow upwards. Some more highlights: 87.9 SR P1, probably Örebro at 1374 km, judging by the other Swedish txes coming in at the time: https://app.box.com/s/y69if8qkho8e76ob2im9uzn15pimtl4j 87.8 NRK P1 Hovdefjell 1046 km: https://app.box.com/s/6n4w2uy83hs2zbuzay3dnz4brg1kyppb 88.3 NRK P2 Lyngdal 938 km: https://app.box.com/s/n7fwyap4f80tbh1bgc3gxdh4b96xg84w 88.9 SR P1 Skövde 1252 km: https://app.box.com/s/bi2gpm0l13rn8uyqltzxk1fszqax4ahy 97.0 SR P3 Hörby 1115 km over Heart Reading: https://app.box.com/s/xiczsngb5a3twxexir1mxo58ifv41u20 92.7 SR P1 Bäckefors (Mellerud) 1203 km: https://app.box.com/s/mfsfd1ifndrcs1mkxxvyccooteavoekw 95.0 NRK Petre Lyngdal (reaches RDS levels): https://app.box.com/s/myp8gcj5y8j8x61z8d88sg9gow6fv2yi 97.6 NRK P1 Lyngdal 938 km: https://app.box.com/s/o61j3598f9nq1sdvpoxlsx43kwvl3v6c 90.4 SR P1 Varberg 1104 km: https://app.box.com/s/2tbjn82a2dt4ygusrk9a1bw8idi6tzdc 97.4 PR 3 Koszalin 1255 km: https://app.box.com/s/fds68kp8f9m4mdpt2kvmnu7y5blf9whf 107.9 PR 1 Koszalin 1255 km: https://app.box.com/s/dg1xeyv33lnmrgq0etrzocpi8ywcrgzn 95.7 PR 1 Gdańsk 1371 km: https://app.box.com/s/fhwv52a2zqemodjimy984fap41mcbyzd Another recording of Radio ZET Gdańsk 1371 km: https://app.box.com/s/x1qdjacy4ql93s29bps1f5ya8cr22c59 What an amazing tropo, the likes of which we probably won't see again for a long while. |

Things happening in the South West this evening - just had a message from my nephew, sitting in a car just outside Padstow, logged Penwith Radio on 97.2, Radio Scilly on 107.9, and quote "Irish stations all over the band" - Kerry, Cork etc...

Tropo Luxembourg, SW Germany and eastern France
Was much better when I got back from work at 5.20 pm/1620 UTC e.g. Metz solid on 106.8. Went to Andover and came back at 6.40 pm to find a much sparser band. Still conditions about though as I have France Culture Strasbourg on 87.7 as I type this.

Some long-distance French ducting this evening with Pic du Midi on 87.9 up to fully quieting levels/1 bar at times. Also a few sites in central France e.g. Clermont-Ferrand, Tours and Lyon-Mont Pilat.
The more eastern DX disappeared a long while back, although SWR 3 has now made an appearance on 98.4 from Hornisgrinde in SW Germany so maybe it'll pick up in that direction again. |

A few signals in from the Basque region of Spain this morning, including RNE 5 on 105.0. Also a good signal from France Bleu Gascogne from Bayonne on 100.5 (mostly 2 bars with RDS). Northern France is also very strong, not surprisingly!

Good conditions for stations from the Midlands reaching the Isle of Wight, including BBC 3CR on 94.7 from Aylesbury, Heart on 105.7 and BBC Radio Kent on 104.2 cutting over Radio Berkshire from Hannington.
On DAB, London 2 on 12A is getting knocked by Egam in Belgium but not enough to break over it. Also Herts, Beds, Bucks mux coming in down here at a reasonable signal. |

I've had Egem coming in strong for most of the day along with some northern France and a few Dutch stations.
What I wasn't expecting was BBC Cymru from both Wenvoe and Llangollen and BBC Wales on 103.9. Very rare round these parts! |

Some fantastic tropo today with the following countries heard: Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain (earlier in the day) and more recently Austria and (a first for me via tropo) the Czech Republic! Specifically Plzen on 91.4, 95.6 (with RDS!) and 101.7. Also Usti nad Labelm earlier on 90.9 and 104.5 but much weaker.
There will be lots of recordings to go through again lol. |
