If that's pop you could have Kringvarp Foroya from the Faroes.
Check their web stream: http://tunein.com/radio/Kringvarp-F%C3%B8roya-s50446 |

The opening is moving to the south-eastern corner of Finland and has reached 96.5, but YLE X on 94.3 is the only consistent station, audible when there aren't any other Finnish stations below this.

My tuner received HIT FM 87.7 sometime around midnight last night.
I did not receive anything from Scandinavia but I received castilla la mancha radio 87.6 AT 13:00. I have still not caught up with my recordings for the last 2 days. Andy |

E skip video of the 19th of this month, receiving Bulgaria & maybe Greece...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY5Z-8TQGzM
Did not receive Scandinavia either today, only Portugal (RFM, 89.6) & Spain (maybe Cadena 100, 89.2) which only lasted a very short moment. |

I've got Greece on the Kenwood. Hope it comes off with a bit of Cillit Bang.
(Sorry, that's the best I can do for now) Just Laikos FM 87.6 and ERT Net 88.0. Both very weak and well below RDS threshold. John |

I should stick to my day job, as they say. The opening was very short-lived. It had fizzled before I had hit "send". I hate DX openings which fizzle. John  Quote:

Something trying again at the bottom of FM. Sounds like it might have moved to Italy. It's still fizzling though.
They don't seem to be doing too badly out of it on the near continent at the moment. i.e. Holland and Belgium. Good DX! John Skegness, Lincolnshire |

A quick question- I'm currently in SW France, have been up and down the band- nothing special to report. If an e-Skip cloud does come in this direction, are parts of the UK in range? I guess the south of England is too close for E-Skip, but what about northern parts of Scotland?

Hello adc82140.
Yes, you will definitely be in range for UK E skip. Perhaps not the south coast of England but certainly further to the north, including North Wales and definitely the northern half of England and all Scotland. This season I have had Es reception of southern France on at least three different days. I am in Skegness on the east coast/central England. My reception has included the cities of Marseille, Nice, Montpellier, Orange, Narbonne, Perpignan. Toulouse should be possible with a bit of luck. I have also received Catalunya, Asturias and Galicia in northern Spain several times. Generally, 1000km is too close for a single hop Es distance, but it can happen. The shortest E skip I have ever had on band 2 FM was around 760 km but you need intense Es for that with strong propagation to the top of the band. Hope that helps. Good DX! Nice to receive Finland earlier today. It didn't last too long and it wasn't long before Spain and Portugal came through, but then I was out for the afternoon. The evening saw frequent attempts by the Es to attack the bottom of band 2 but it was always a struggle. Even as I type this at 10pm local time I am hearing weak bursts of Es appearing below 88.0. What's the furthest tropospheric ducting you've had on fm? I can receive the Netherlands during flat conditions so was wondering what Dx I could expect to get from the east coast, Norway,Denmark maybe even Poland ?

When I lived in Sutton-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire I once received Radio Maryja from the Suwalki transmitter in north-east Poland. This was between 0551 and 0600 on 22-09-98 with a full ID on the top of the hour. The distance was 1589 km. I was probably using a Triax FM8 at the time but it would only have been on a small mast at the end of the garden, roughly 15 feet above the ground.
My furthest QSO on 2m was when I was mobile with a simple 2 element HB9CV, running 50 watts from an Icom IC7000 mobile transceiver. I worked LY2WR, club station in Vilnius, Lithuania, from the Axe Edge in Derbyshire at a distance of 1775 km (1100 miles). At that time, my signal was also reported with a good level by a DXer in Latvia! This was during that magical evening of 10-10-10. Furthest band 2 tropo since moving to Skegness was Radio TSF from Muro on 106.5 during the evening of 26-11-11 at 1411 km, using the FM5. The signal was painfully weak but clearly parallel to their web stream. Northern Spain was all over the band at the time. Good DX! John Skegness, Lincolnshire |

Thanks. I was hoping to get some tropo from further afield than just Netherlands and Belguim. Looks like during a good opening I can . Polands a great catch.

I've had Poland three times via tropo from Sutton-in-Ashfield. If the conditions are there you should get it. If I can do it from that congested location then I'm sure anybody can do it. You just need to be there at the right time.
Those sort of openings are quite rare but as and when you receive something like that you'll wonder why you've never had it before. UK radio hams can work into Russia via tropo. In extreme cases radio hams on the west coast of the USA have worked into Hawaii on 2m. OK, that might be on SSB, but those distances can be as much as 5000 km = 3000 miles !! |

Thats encouraging. If U.K hams can work Russia then there's the possibility of Russian band 2 radio coming over via tropospheric ducting. The mileage is a lot more than the 500m often claimed to be the maximum although I know there's a difference between scatter, enhancement and ducting and maybe scatter and enhancement can only reach 500m whereas ducting has a greater potential maximum. I'm never sure which type of tropo Hepburn shows.

Russia on band 2 might be possible as an extreme but the UK hams who work into Russia would probably be using use high gain beams and USB. To get the same on our band 2 would require a lot more luck. I forgot too, the Canaries are usually worked once or twice a year on 2m from places in the SW of England and in Ireland. This even happens on band 2. You need to wait until the Azores High is working its magic for that. John Quote:
