Not done this for a while! Heard Radio10FM on 87.7 interfering with my car FM transmitter and it brought back memories of old times DXing, spent the morning driving to work through Sheffield city centre listening to 538.

Rushed band scan outside work for old times sake:

(apologies for vertical video!)

Been to Driffield, East Yorkshire, this afternoon - FM band there is full of Amsterdam stations - Veronica, NPO 1 to 3, Slam! and many more. Some also getting through on DAB - mostly NRK stations.

Also on DAB, a lot of stations from Eastern England including BBC Radios 3CR, Cambs (Peterborough) and Norfolk, and various commercial stations from the same areas.

Not so much back home in Malton, though late last night I was getting Radio Tay FM (Dundee) on 102.8...
Glad to hear of fellow Malton DXers! Thought I was the only one. I used to have a website which you might like:

Unfortunately the archived version is missing some of the graphics for the layout, but you get the idea!

Isn't that more likely to be a Radio Ramadan SRSL?

Using an Eton G3 on its whip here in Sussex, the only thing I found was Deutschlandfunk on 101.8.

Would that be Aurich or Osnabrueck I wonder?

Yes the tropo really took off around midnight last night here with lots of north Germans, and later quite a few Dutch. The latter shows how good the tropo was as my aerial is horzontal so I rarely hear anything from the Netherlands. Some nice catches last night including N-Joy on 96.6 from Lingen with just 500 watts next door to local Heart on 96.7.

Similar this morning but the Dutch were more dominant with the quantity of Germans down. Driving into work this morning I was getting RDS on 87.7 Radio 10 and 88.0 NPO Radio 2.

There's already a bit of German activity this evening so maybe a repeat performance later tonight?

DR Deutschland, 9D Noord-West NL and 6B Oost-Noord NL have all returned to the portable with only a telescopic aerial to hand.

Here in Norwich, the novelty of hearing the Sound Digital mux - coming in very well right now - is probably greater than getting the stations from the continent.

Enjoy it while it lasts. It'll be seen as justification to never give East Anglia transmissions from Sound Digital because you can do with whatever you get from atmospheric conditions.

I'm now getting NRK's multiplex as I did yesterday and 8A is also showing signs of life.

I'm picking up the London local mux on UHF 29, coming in perfectly, and conveniently London Live is still on LCN 8 whereas Mustard TV is now on 7, so they are sitting side by side on the EPG at the moment.

Chelmsford calling!

I'm back on a very high vertical single dipole, and I had forgotten how much fun trop lifts are from these things.

Last night Wrotham FM had become good mono at best, London FM had disappeared altogether. However, what a joy to listen to Sky Radio on 101.2 (among others) with a great reception. Heart 102.6 (normally 56DB off air) from a TX a few miles behind the house, was all over the place. Wonderful stuff. When I arrived at work this AM the cleaners were perplexed as to why their radios weren't working properly........

What really struck me, though was the DAB reception. I've just checked and it is still there tonight - a multiplex called `9D Noord-West NL' , registering 100% signal. There is a station called `8FM' and also one called `WildFM'. When I listened through my fairly decent system, I was blown away by the sound quality and what seemed like true stereo, yet it's only showing as 64kbps. Is this Dab+? It sounds a heck of a lot better than what we get on 128kpbs..........

Take care all, and happy band scanning!

Nick

Probably Aurich as that's 100 KW, compared to Osnabrueck which is only 500 watts. I had DLF on 101.8 yesterday on my Sangean ATS-909X, if I held it in one direction it would be DLF, in the other direction it would be Heart from Burnhope. I also had DLF on 107.1 depsite a small community radio station on the same frequency quite close to me.

Amazing reception this evening on band 3. Using a Roberts Stream 93i indoors with the whip I have nearly 200 stations from around the UK, Holland and Germany.

Hi Nick,

Yes, it will be DAB+, and I agree with you, it sounds a lot better than that transmitted in the UK.

Chris. (Lincoln, UK).

PS Now receiving Norwegian DAB again.
