Yes, our Freeview is also all over the place but nothing foreign coming in, so not very exciting, London BBC (Ch 23?) has completely disappeared for the last day or so. I was assuming Rowridge may be broadcasting something on the same channel as (from Chelmsford) it is directly behind CP,

What really struck me, though was the DAB reception. I've just checked and it is still there tonight - a multiplex called `9D Noord-West NL' , registering 100% signal. There is a station called `8FM' and also one called `WildFM'. When I listened through my fairly decent system, I was blown away by the sound quality and what seemed like true stereo, yet it's only showing as 64kbps. Is this Dab+? It sounds a heck of a lot better than what we get on 128kpbs..........
I couldn't resist doing a meme: https://twitter.com/tgheretford/stat...23290525999105. Because now that people are hearing how good DAB+ can be, even at bitrates comparable to many mono DAB UK stations, it shows up how we are losing out in the UK.

ETA: Picked up Norge Riks on 12D which has wiped out both Leeds and Peterborough multiplexes.

Hi tghe-retford, thanks for the Twitter link! So I'm not going mad.....I'm no audio expert but `I knows good sound' - and when the right noises are coming from the right channels etc..........

Chris in Lincoln also on board.......nice to hear from you Chris......

So what's stopping DAB+ in the UK? Money, I guess? Not enough people caring about good sound quality also?

I have always been reluctant to ditch FM and still listen to it, but this 64kbps DAB+ is `good enough' for my cloth ears and would be enough for me to switch to DAB as my normal platform.

here in peterborough i assume its norge riks on 12d that caused p'boro to drop to only the magic threshold level and its struggling to hold even that

More than likely. I'm stuck with only using a telescopic aerial and a portable DAB at the moment but it did come in (it's very weak now) for a while and I could listen to KISS at 48Kbps AAC+ for a few minutes.

Here, it's also dependant on what side of the house you are on. Be on the wrong side and the Leeds multiplex will win out.

both my dabs are portable with telescopic antenna.
yep usually one corner of the house and i can just pull in the lincs mux as a bonus but other corner but downstairs i can get the hearts/beds/bucks mux.

no leicester, northants or cambridge even though they closer though

I've noticed that some DAB+ stations have more features such as a title and artist page which the UK doesn't have.

The funny thing is, Bauer's Norwegian KISS which came through for a short period tonight did have that very function yet Bauer's Magic Chilled to my knowledge doesn't use it.

Then again, we can't have the proletariat knowing about such advanced things as higher bitrates and tag information, lest they get ideas and start revolting!

Had LBC 97.3 strong a while ago also got Absolute 105.8 London nice and clear, getting a lot of enhanced East Anglia signals with Radio Norfolk 95.6 from the West Runton transmitter stamping on Radio Cambs 95.7 (and winning!).

Sadly it all proved to be a little bit of a damp squib in my little corner of the West Midlands. Got some minimal lift with BBC Radio Oxford and the Free Radio sites at Coventry and Hereford/Worcs.

On DAB i got BBC Merseyside, City FM and City 2 to show up on the station list, but they were too weak to give an intelligible result.

Oh well, better luck next time.

Yesterday, at its peak, I was getting textual messages on my car RDS while listening to Dutch stations. Ones like 'A76 Aachen'. and 'A2 Roermond' kept popping up. Could these have been traffic information?

Yes they probably were, but Aachen is in Germany. Still great conditions yesterday. I got listenable stations indoors on the Roberts 93 whip aerial from the Netherlands and Germany all with rolling text.

Not much here in Cheshire, which is surprising as we've had the best weather in the country for the past 7 days or so.

Nothing different on DAB and no particular FM tropo here either. Any SpE's I must have missed too.

Nothing beats September 2004, before installing a roof top aerial, switching on a portable radio to find Key 103 gone with what I thought was an enhanced Beacon 103.1, but it was Invicta 103.1! Capital 95.8 replaced BBC Merseyside, BBC Oxford 95.2 replaced BBC Manchester 95.1, Kiss 100 had replaced Sutton Coldfield Classic 100.1 and BBC Kent 104.2 had knocked out BBC Cymru 104.3 (which is a stonker of a signal in my location!), Horizon 103.3 wiped out MFM103.4 and numerous other stations from the South East.

I got a roof-top aerial as a result of that event, and have never had a tropo quite like it since!
