It looks like I'm getting Turkey/Macedonia at the moment on 98.0FM.
Portugal and North Africa was received earlier with RDS Seixal being logged on 87.6 with RDS and the PI code showing. |

Apparently yesterday's opening was huge and went on for several hours with double-hop from Israel, Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon logged on FM.
Guess what? I missed all of it because I was at work! Grrrr.... |

There is a slight tropo here with the usual Dutch stations reaching noise free stereo!

A few interesting things going on this morning. Down in the mist on the Sussex/Surrey/Kent border, FM was virtually wiped out. The Wrotham powerhouse was next to useless, Reigate fuzzy, Croydon/CP just dead. A few Dutch stations and local-ish pirates poking through. Was really odd - no on channel/adjacent stations seemed to be wiping them all out. Once I was out of the mist around the A25 Oxted area, FM pretty much returned to normal.
Meanwhile on DAB, not had a peep from Kent, but nothing in it's place. D1 signal has been down. Locals wise, best around the tops of the North Downs in to London: Oxford & Derby battling out on 10B (both audible at different times). Berkshire very strong (normally nothing), HBB much stronger. Trial London significantly down. Trial Aldershot up. Surrey slightly weaker (but is by far the strongest local DAB for around here). No Dutch yet. Could be an interesting day! |

Maybe there was an inversion layer above you (the mist being a clue) but the transmitters were above it and their signals were refracting off the top and not getting through to you. Unusual, I suspect, but possible (usually the reflections are underneath and cause long distance reception). The Dutch stations may have been getting in underneath it some distance away.
Was just surprised how powerful it was. 250KW from Wrotham just 10 miles away wasn't getting through. Especially as I didn't seem to be pulling in much else from a distance. Would have thought that if 1 or 2 Dutch stations where reflecting below the layer, that I'd have been able to get quite a few more than a couple. |

DAB just wasn't this morning. No South Hants north of Winchester, or west of Cadnam. Wave kept dropping back to FM- and even that was weak- Absolute became dominant on 105.2 at Alresford on the A31. Again Chillerton and Crabwood Farm must have been above the inversion layer, but Sutton Coldfield not.

Got the faintest whiff of Cambridge on 11C on a Pure Move 2500. Even more odd considering the new mast at Clarborough belts out the Sheffield multiplex.
Also got my hands on a Sangean DPR-69+. It appears to have the same sensitivity, chipset and telescopic aerial as the Roberts Play (a.k.a the Sangean DPR-67) - which is a good thing for picking up weaker signals. |

In Basingstoke-
Kiss on 106.4 (weak) What I can only assume is Heart MK 103.3 (weak) Watford on 96.6 And the London regionals seem stronger than normal. This is using a Sony D6503 which I haven't scanned here before so not entirely sure what to expect, normally scan in the car. |

Heard a German station on 101.5 today whilst in the car this morning playing chart music.
Free (BRMB) Bham was also getting hammered by Heart 96.3 from Bristol on my journey to work, clear RDS in Stourbridge it was wiping out 96.4. Impressive. |

Please clarify as there appears to be nothing there or on Spaceweather.
![]() The status page was showing a red alert when I posted, but now it's showing no activity. Maybe it was just a glitch; it's an automated system. |

Wow! Just look at the graph, that was some spike. A mower eh?
I should imagine that if that had been real, it would probably have caused a worldwide problem with telecommunications and power. Anyway, to get back to more mundane radio matters.......... |

Pretty flat tonight but yesterday evening and this morning some very good short-range tropo, mainly to Sussex, Kent, London and Essex domestically and N and NE France and Belgium. Several frequencies from Montreuil were heard, as well as excellent reception from the main Lille and Neufchâtel-en-Bray sites. Some of the more interesting logs:
88.9 Fun Radio Boulogne 90.9 Nostalgie Montreuil 94.1 Radio 6 Montreuil 97.8 France Bleu Nord Montreuil 103.9 RFM Le Havre 104.3 RTL Le Havre 104.7 Europe 1 Le Havre 105.7 France Info Montreuil 106.9 Fun Radio Le Havre Belgium stations in included 99.1 Classic 21, 101.1 Pure FM (both very good strength), 101.4 Studio Brussel and 101.8 VivaCité. Also London stations such as 104.4 Resonance FM, 87.7 InHouse Radio (pirate), 106.8 Rinse FM, and Radio Essex 105.1 were a full 3 bars with RDS this morning. There were a handful of Germans also in this morning from Teutoburger Wald, Langenberg and Lingen. |
