Went up onto the Malvern hills yesterday, and was hoping to receive the Mount Leinster RTÉ stations, but they were all being obliterated by either Ludlow or Llyswen, apart from 99.2 (bizarely) and 101.4 (which is more logical as neither of those sites carry Classic FM).

Got a nice video of Today FM 101.4 on my car radio sat in the West of England Quarry car park though. I'll post it up later.

Think I could just about get Beat 102-103 as well, but it was only just above the noise. That's only possible down that west side of the hills as Touch from Lark Stoke is a massive signal at the top of the hills.

Well, I bought a cheap ('high quality') coax cable on Amazon to see what would happen when I connected my hi-fi to the TV aerial. It was atrocious. I could hardly hear a thing!

Since moving in I've found that FM can sometimes be a bit hissy with the standard hi-fi aerial and DAB reception isn't always great either - the Norwich minimux burbles a lot. According to this website http://aerialsandtv.com/fmanddabradio.html#FMhalfWave, a half-wave dipole works quite well on DAB as well as FM.

The Great Orme transmitter in Llandudno is off air it takes Classic fm Capital N wales muxco 10D and Heart N wales. Im getting 2br fm on Anglesey on 96.3 is this due to high pressure?

Don,t know if this is the right place to put this but it looks like there are problems with the Great Orme transmitter in Llanddudno last night, I was listening to Capital N Wales, on 96.3 fm, and there was gaps of silence during the songs, from 23:00-23:45, and this morning it sounds like capital is broadcasting over a telephone line, does anybody know on here with knowledge what could be the cause? It seems to happen every 48 hours.

Rescanned the car DAB this morning and was surprised to see Chill, Gem 106 and BBC Nottingham pop up on my list.

Given that I was only a couple of miles south of York at the time I am assuming that this was something to do with Atmospherics or the fog.

Think it's about the furthest away DAB mux I've managed to get.

An area of very strong tropo is predicted between Spain and south-western UK for Thursday. http://dxinfocentre.com/tropo_eur.html

I now have an indoor dipole that's made of ribbon. Connects directly to my hi-fi with no assembly required, as opposed to the metal dipoles which seem to require 'wiring up'? Reception of semi-local stations is improved - just need a lift now.

The North Yorkshire multiplex is an easy catch during flat conditions here in North Nottinghamshire because its pretty much flat between Teesside and Nottinghamshire thanks to both the Ouse and Trent valleys, which is why Bilsdale is easy to pick up despite being well over 100km away. That and its 10kW. It's also why Sound Digital has to limit the signal to the south or we'd be swamped with interference! It's probably why I suspect you were able to pick up the Nottinghamshire multiplex with some help.

I now also have in possession both the Sangean DPR-69+ and the Wintal DAB10B (a.k.a. Microspot-RA318), the latter being described as "the DX wonder machine".

It's looking very promising for Tuesday/Wednesday here too Catherine:

Fingers crossed this is indeed a good lift on the way.

Managed to pick up Paris 2 (6A DAB) on the way to work in East Surrey this morning near M25 J6. Was fleeting, but audio was fine for a while. Not too bad! First French DAB in the UK for me.

Easily pulling in Cambridge trial and Cambridge 11C (killed Kent) too. D1 is being destroyed by distant sites coming in.

FM is a bit messy, but French and Cambridge stations coming in and R2, 3, 4 & Classic were strong on distant sites. A lot of local stations suffering.

Inter-UK is massive this morning- sat in the car at Guildford Cathedral- Smooth Radio 100.4, Gem 106, Kiss 106.4, BBC Norfolk 104.4, Radio Wales 94.8 in with RDS. The station separation on the car stereo must be good, as it was also line of sight to Crystal Palace for BBC London on 94.9. DAB hopeless though- full of destructive interference- i normally get a good Herts/Beds/Bucks on 10d from that location, but nothing today- probably knocked out by West Wiltshire. Hope it all lasts until I get home tonight.

Here in south Devon, national DAB stations disappeared on the way to work in the car.
London 1, London 2, HBB, Surrey, Sussex all made appearances. Enjoyed listening to Graham Mack on BOB on the way to work! Didn't get a chance to check FM but there were a couple of French stations on the FM list last night (was tuning around to see why Radio 2 had gone quiet!)

Your France Musique on 89.4 is almost certainly the 158.5 kW Brest/Roc du Tredudon transmitter. It was very strong here yesterday night and this morning.

96.1 might have been RTBF La Premičre from Wavre as the tropo was also extending to the east and NE.

Most of this morning's tropo was 'domestic' for me and was focused mainly on the south-east, e.g. Kent, Sussex and the 'London 3' DAB stations. There was something French on 96.1. Something classical on 89.5 - not sure which country.
