There was tropo here too this morning but it didn't extend any further than Luxembourg. 88.9 and 100.7 were both in, as was Classic 21 on 87.6. Of course the usuals in NE France were up nicely.

Still some tropo from France being received here. Can anybody recommend Danish frequencies that are likely to be received, the ones listed earlier are all blocked by strong locals in Norwich. It would be great to have at least one potential frequency to monitor .

Not sure which to suggest after Rangstrup as there are several transmitters which may come up during tropo.

Skegness”

Thanks. I'm hopeful I can receive some of these under the right conditions. I know Danish dab can be received on the Suffolk coast and they transmit at low powers so there has to be more chance with fm.

I bet given a strong lift you will be able to get Norweigan and even Swedish transmissions . Do you get many German stations under flat conditions in Grimsby? I occasionally get Langenberg on 88.88 but it mainly gets nulled by Belmont.
Skywaves

Definitely! and not just the regional transmitters.

One thing to do, as IDing local stations in Norway and Sweden is not the easiest of things to an English ear, is to record all your DX. If you are unable to identify a station, others might be able to help.

I think he uses a vertical aerial (FM3?) on a rotator, so he probably wouldn't receive Germany on that aerial in Grimsby.

John (skywaves) can receive Germany in flat conditions at Skegness, but I don't receive Germany here in Lincoln, unless there's a lift.

Yes, that is correct I use a vertical FM3 so no chance of any Germans sadly.

Just tuned the FM band and I can report some very good scatter today. German transmitters Langenberg, Aachen, Barbelkreuz, Bonn, Bremen, Munster, Teutoburger Wald, Sackpfeife (peaking noise free) and even Torfhaus and Brocken are squeezing through very weakly! Luxembourg is not doing badly either with noise free peaks on 100.7. Lille is RDSing on peak (RDS Spy).

It's like last summer all over again! I see the jet stream is still well to the south of us.

Our posts crossed Matt.

You will still get Germany on the vertical under lift conditions, but remember there is about 20dB loss with 90 degree off-polarity signals.

Good DX!

Ahh yes, I will still get them under lift conditions, I presume the same will happen with the French stations?

How long till the jet stream moves north?

There's a map showing the position of the jet stream and an animated forecast here:

I have just finished modding the sony ST-SE520 for the soundcard option using 1K resistors soldered to pins 2/16 and glued to the board and the lead glued to the
base of the tuner for good measure as I don't want them coming off.

So what's the result,Well it works perfectly all I have to do is to get to grips with it so any tips would be very welcome.

I will have a play now.

I hadn't realised he had a vertical rotator . I thought Denmark and Norway also used horizontal so wouldn't the same problem apply as with not being able to receive horizontal german stations. From what you've said previously i thought France was mixed polarisation as is Britain, Belguim and the Netherlands vertical and Germany and Scandinavian countries horizontal. I may have got it wrong .

Sounds like you've got it correct. Scandinavian countries use horizontal polarization, at least for the national stations. John (skywaves) is more knowledgeable than me, but I think maybe the local stations are vertical in Scandinavia. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

Polarisation in Belgium is generally Vertical for the Flemish stations and Horizontal for French stations. French local lower power stations are often vertical.

Has anyone thought of using an aerial at 45 deg - in theory - if I remeber it correctly that will result in a loss of "only" 3dB.

Mind you having both polarisations is wonderful for separating them out - I can have two totally different stations on the same frequency but without mutual interference because of the different polarisation.

Hi folks,

My radio was unattended between 16:00 BST & 17:00 BST.

When I came back, it had picked up this ->

http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...6/100_3273.jpg

on this frequency ->

http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...6/100_3274.jpg

As I was away from the radio, I didn't hear the language.
Does anyone know where this may be from?

Chris.

I think it's from Italy. Radio Capital 87.6. The PI code, 5219. Rds simply displays Capital.

Hi Chris as ACL777 has said that would be from Italy as there are 2 tx's on this frequency.

I had peterpan on 87.5 and as I had just got rdsspy up and running I changed aerials to the sony and it had gone typical.

And yet again the Es happen whilst I'm at work. I've missed some of the best openings this year because of this.

I think I'll book a week off around the 3rd week of June next year. I can only hope that next year's season is better than this one. Definitely been on the mediocre side this time.

Thanks to all, for such a fast response.

Don't worry Nick, the SP-E opening must have been very brief, as I wasn't out for long, so you wouldn't have missed much.

You did not miss much Peterpan was only here for less than a minute but I know how you feel I used to hate going on afternoon shift when an opening was in full swing.
