This is what I picked up yesterday:

104.0 - BBC Hereford & Worcester - 177 miles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcMtguhcooM)
96.3 - Heart North Wales Coast - 136 miles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDMilGsjzpk)
88.0 - Real Radio Wales - 127 miles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6Te99rEImw)
103.1 - Free Radio Shropshire - 142 miles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALxf7HBm7w4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k50H7rhs53o)

It was an alright DX, not as good as others have posted on here, but I have never had Real Radio Wales or Heart before.

If up at 5am, that's the only time that Heart North Wales Coast is different (welsh music for an hour Cwl Cymru) which is rather sad, save for and not all that different, the occasional local ad or two.

Well it was Friday night so they were doing the networked Club Classics, but I heard an ad come on which was in Welsh, confirming that it was the ex Coast 96.3. Otherwise I would have been confused whether it was this or Heart West Country (Bristol).

Hi Chris, I too had that (whilst driving to Skegness) and caught the references to funky.net. I was also getting Veronica 103.0, Q music on 100.7, Sky radio on 101.2 and something that sounded Scandinavian on 91.7 (I think it was). As you say TV DX is very active today, with virtually all Dutch muxes coming in here.

Dutch radio & TV stations eg Omroep Zeeland 87.9Mhz and some Dutch TV (UHF channel 39)are making here this morning.

Hi Jon,

You're lucky, living right on the coast. All my Dutch MUXs stopped coming through about mid-morning. There is nothing being received now, I just checked.

Cheers,

Chris.

Badly translated with the assistance of Google Translate, from radio.nl:

"The rebuilding of the mast at Hoogersmilde, which collapsed on 15 July 2011, is progressing steadily. Over a year later, radio stations hope to make use of the tower again. The stations will start using it on the night of 14-15 September, says director Robert-Jan van der Hoeven of Broadcast Partners, operator of many radio transmitters."

"The new tower in Hoogersmilde would have been ready on 1 August 2012, but this was delayed by rain and wind, and by new wiring requirements."

The article also says that some stations using the new tower will initially have to broadcast with reduced power, for some months, and that the temporary transmitters will be dismantled.

Thank you for information there, I remember Smilde and Lopik were always the first transmitters to pop up at the start of a lift back in the days of using bits of wire around the bedroom as an aerial.

Currently flat here now, it was nice whilst it lasted.

I was surprised(last week)to receive a very strong signal from BBC Radio Cymru in Brighton, East Sussex-on a small portable set, frequency adjacent to BBC Radio Solent ,by the time I got home to check exact frequency on my Eton set I could not find it so dont know which Welsh transmitter had reached as far as East Sussex!

Conditions are flat, flat, flat this evening - I don't think it can get flatter! Around 7:30 am - Luxembourg was coming in nicley on scatter - sufficient to lock the pi code of 7212.

Egem and Lille are barely making it through. Boulogne which is semi-local - although only 1kw - is coming through just about noise free mono and is the most consistent signal.

A huge contrast to last week when I picking up loads of German stations - as far out as the Austrian border - and Wenvoe in the opposite direction.

Let's hope it picks up as predicted at the end of the week.

Looking at the Hepburn charts it's right as I am getting UCB 87.6
right in the back of the box and RTE R1 Claremont Carn clear and a weak RTE R1 Mullaghanish 90.0.

Since I raised the dipoles reception of Ireland has been much improved as one dipole is cut to 88.0 Mhz and the other to 98.0 Mhz.

The 98.0 Mhz dipole is part of the 3 element aerial I made back in the 80's and I intend to reinstate it vertical for the continent.

The 88.0 Mhz dipole I was thinking of adding a parasitic element the same as the antiference trumatch design does anyone have dimensions for fm.

It's been really flat here too Dave the last couple of days, more like conditions in the depths of winter. It seems better tonight though.

The longer term forecast is looking pretty awful - the GFS model shows low pressure stuck over the UK between the 23rd and 29th which is as far as the model goes.

Just out of interest how can you tell the difference between meteor scatter and SpE when you just get a short one minute burst of activity? I know both cover the same potential maximum distance. Cheers.
Jim_AFCB
13-09-2012
A meteor burst will arrive suddenly and fade out (bit like hitting a tuning fork, for example). A burst can last from a second to several seconds, maybe up to a minute or so, from experience.
Es will usually fade in and out probably several times.

RTE gone from here now.
