I just noticed your recording is over 24 minutes long. While I would like to help I just haven't got time to go through all the recording.

Without RDS you are going to find it difficult to be precise about the exact identity of the stations. Sorry if this sounds negative.

I had a quick scan through and found something at 14:10. This is Vagos FM, from the town of Vagos (listed with 1kW). I heard a commercial mentioning Pombal which is not far from Vagos, then a mention of tuttipromo.com, a company in Vagos itself. No question this is Vagos FM.

Maybe you could use shorter clips for anything you consider to contain a possible ID in future.

Patchy Es at the bottom of the band.

A few Italians appeared below 88 MHz half an hour ago. Bulgaria's Power FM also just appeared briefly on 88.0. This is from the Tsarevo transmitter which is right next to the Turkish border.

Good DX!

I have been out noticed RIRE 87.7 on the tuner and on my way home I had what sounded like a french comedian show also on 87.7.
Also on the IKasu the rds was saying CLRE FKE on 87.7 anyone know where this is from or is it corrupt text.

RDS just come in now 12:13 and CY FM on 87.7 and I have googled it and it came up with Cyprus.

I have just managed to complete the video's from the 10th and I was up at 6am doing it one strange thing is I received RADIO DEEJAY announcing the station name in english.

Phenomenal catch Andy! Cyprus has to be double hop.

Rire Et Chansons on 87.7 would be Nice (2 kW). I had Marseille and Montpellier earlier so that would tie in nicely.

Cannot find anything listed on 87.7 with "CLRE FKE". Same for 87.6 and 87.8 just in case it was a wide signal.

Lucky sod getting Cyprus though. That's a good un!

Thanks John I have checked it on FM LIST and according to that there's no cyprus fm on 87.7 so I am just going to check the tape.

Things seem very patchy just small bursts of stations hopefully the start of a humdinger opening if I can take the strain as I have yesterdays videos to go through yet.

Same here. The Es are mostly absent now but I keep getting Si Radio in Spain popping up on 87.8.

Not long ago the bottom of the band was a mess with northern Italy, southern France, Corsica, Algeria, Tunisia, Spain and a Slavic language station on 87.8 which I think was Slovenia.

It's hovering just below band 2 most of the time so something could happen at any moment.

Hmmm, Algeria has reappeared on 87.6 as I type.

Good DX!

I keep getting stations popping up for a minute and then going like RAC 1 and on the Ikasu I have had rds info showing BBRETAC and DEC FNC.

I am busy repairing at the moment so I will have a listen later.

I don't know about anyone else but I have had a lot of short bursts of stations (meteor showers) all afternoon and the latest rds is POPOLUON.

Rire et chansons (literally "laugh and songs") is an unusual (to us) format for a radio station - comedy sketches interspersed with music.

Pretty dead now but between about 6.45 and 7.25 pm local I was getting Poland, Germany and Latvia (LR-2 on 91.5 with RDS) and an unid religious station on 101.4 with a church service. Also Sweden weak on 87.6 and some Spanish signals. An ad on 87.8 just before 7pm mentioning 'Nostalgie' in French followed by more ads in Arabic. I wonder, do Algerian Chaine 1 have bilingual ads just before the TOTH/news?

Yes a good eskip opening again. I just had GRANADA on 91.5 and radio Maria on 91.8

Still cannot get any RDS from these Arabic stations though.
If it's still going I'll have another go in an hour.

The signals have not stopped here for the past hour as the polish radio went off 87.7 and appeared on 87.5 and also funradio in and out.

I have listened to the CY FM and it came in on 87.7 horizontal which is connected to the Ikasu but the audio output to through a switched to vcr was on the denon and that is connected to the vertical dipole.

I will put the recording up on Y/T and maybe someone with better hearing than I have may hear something so I am not going to log it as cyprus as it could be a case of corrupted text.

I am wondering if the June Lyrids were responsible for the pings this afternoon so I recorded them so I will look at them when I get some as the recordings are stacking up here.

Could that be Nostalgie Lebanon?

Having been to Lebanon in March that does sound like it might fit the bill with the bilingual output. Ads there are frequently in French/English for prestige reasons even when the speech output is in Arabic. Have you got audio?

Admittedly FMList doesn't actually show anything on 87.8 in Lebanon for Nostalgie, but it is licenced to use 87.6-88.0 (it rents 87.7 in Beirut to the US government for Radio Sawa). I also know from experience that FMList really isn't accurate about what's actually on air in Lebanon outside Beirut, which I sent updates for in April.

If it is that's pretty impressive But if people are hearing Cyprus it's not that far-fetched - you could hear dozens of Cypriot stations strongly on FM in flat conditions around Mount Lebanon.

Thanks smorris, but it turns out that it was Chaine 1 from Algeria. I first heard part of an ad in French mentioning 'Nostalgie' so I thought I was getting the French station of the same name. This was followed by ads in Arabic which really confused me!

Another DXer called Samir agreed with me that it was very likely Chaine 1 as this station also has bi-lingual ads. Spain & Algeria were both coming in at the time on other channels, as well as the signals from the Baltic.

So nothing unusual.

Back home now and some late evening Es.

Nothing fantastic but some signals from Spain and Algeria up to about 92 MHz. I think I also heard Portuguese briefly on 91.3.

Good DX!

I got in quite late tonight and surprised to find 'arabic' music on what thought was 87.7 but by the time I got myself settled and actually tuned around it was actually on 87.6 and lasted from around 22:15to as late as 22:50.Peaked as high as 25dB on the Sony - definitely better on the vertical. Then at 20:40 whilst hunting up the band I found exactly the same station on 90.7 which also lasted to around 22:50. I had each tuned on a different radio and audio out on both at the same time - so no doubt. And just as the music ended and an announcer came on - it faded

Shallowfire - were your station all playing arabic/asian music that went on and on??

No RDS - and because on Sunday I decided to go back to using a soundcard interface for RDSSpy I couldn't record the audio - I was hoping for a PI code but nothing!

According to what's in FM List there aren't two transmitters outputting the same program on those two frequencies from any of the arabic countries - and not from any of the other countries who might have similar music (eg Jordan, Lebanon, the ex USSR 'stans) and have found nothing.

So then next step - was it religious music - which countries might play that music?

So far - I've found FYR republic of Macedonia with MR1 Radio Skopje on both 87.6 and 90.7 - but no idea if the station would play that type of music. Going through a lot of other countries - lquite a number didn't even have a transmitter listed on one or both frequencies.

I wonder if some Arabic North African stations relay other stations of join networks at night. I wouldn't be surprised. This evening I heard Jil FM on 94.7 relaying another Algerian station, I forget but seem to remember it was Radio Jeunes.

Just checked Chaine 1 (90.7) and Chaine 3 (87.6) but they have different programmes at the moment. It's difficult to check some of the non-national Algerian stations as their web streams are intermittent.

BBC Radio 3 join a Europe-wide classical network at night and have the same music as other European countries, just with local announcements.

A couple of sites which might be useful

http://www.radioalgerie.dz/ar/index....517&Itemid=180 (you'll have to hover your mouse over the text to see the English name at the bottom of your screen - I use this page a lot, but some of the links don't work. Satellite parallels might be the best way to go)

http://tunein.com/search/?query=ALGERIA

http://www.radioalgerie.dz/fr/index....104&Itemid=241

Networks are a pain!
