Es to Rome/Naples area last 20 minutes.

Do you think my Spanish stations the other mornings was E layer scatter, or tropospheric? The signals were stable only for a few seconds at a time. Often a local station and a Spanish station would come in and out on the same frequency.

That sounds like E-skip to me. Tropo would be much more stable.

A very interesting Sporadic E opening earlier this evening here. It started out shortly before 5 pm local with a few patchy signals into Algeria, with the odd weak Italian and Spanish thrown in. Then at 5.06 Hungary suddenly appeared with RDS from Szent Istvan Radio on 90.6, a religous station. More on-off signals from central Europe came & went, with Poland appearing a little later. It all took off around 6.40 pm with a great opening into Scandinavia, with my first ever reception of Denmark via Es. The two Danish stations logged & recorded are Nova FM on 87.8, just 828 km from here, which I think is my shortest ever E-skip, and Radio 100 FM from Arhus which was battling it out with SR P1. Several other outlets in Sweden and one in Norway were logged too.

Not long before the opening faded I had a possible Balkan station on 88.9 with very exotic-sounding Turkish/Arabesque music and talk in an undetermined language. See clip below.

First clip is from May 30th, the rest from this evening:

https://www.box.com/s/w57w4kwj6fkmw1zqb3kj - 93.7 Radju Malta. You can hear me switching over to the web stream to confirm (from May 30th)

https://www.box.com/s/rda95abvrrdxq0ees2ph - 90.6 Radio Szent Ivan, a religious station from Hungary

https://www.box.com/s/crt7r40syuhdo76jbi56 - 87.8 Nova FM from Denmark, distance of just 828 km, possibly my shortest E-skip

https://www.box.com/s/glhtd1s3u4mof9iow2zm - 87.6 Radio 100 FM (936 km) battling it out with SR P1

https://www.box.com/s/l3b2yzuqz2wtrr74o59o - 88.9 unid Balkan (?) station with some very exotic-sounding Turkish/Arabesque music and OM talk in unid language (Albanian?) Gets taken out by SR P1 for a couple of minutes. Can anyone tell me what language is being spoken and if there are any clues to a possible ID please? There must have been 2 separate Es clouds active at this time.

No tropo here. It's as flat as a very flat thing that's been flattened by a falling block of flats!

I forgot to mention that the unid on 88.9 is solved thanks to a DXer called Timo in Finalnd. It was almost certainly a local Stockholm station, Radio Sydväst, with programming for the Kurdish population in the city. It makes sense with the conditions to Sweden & Denmark.

Caught some of the opening earlier. A few Balkans there, and a brief glimpse of Italy. Something in French on 98.0, too unstable to be tropo.

In fact surprisingly tropo is non existant at the moment- not even getting a whisper of Lille or Boulogne.

I'm getting a little tropo from Egem, with constant audio on my usual suspects 95.7MHz (Radio1) & 98.6MHz (Radio2). Both vertical polarization.

Some weak & patchy tropo to Germany this morning e.g.

91.1 SWR 1
91.6 SWR 3
92.8 SWR 3
102.5 hr4
103.8 WDR 4 (presumed)
105.5 WDR 1 Live
105.9 Hitradio FFH
106.8 Hitradio FFH
107.4 SWR 4 RP

All signals weak & patchy.

Some Algerian E-skip also starting at the bottom of the band now.

Got my first Sporadic Es of the season this morning on the way into work! I seem to have missed all the other good openings so far so it was nice to get something.

Alger Chaîne 3 on 87.6, followed by RTT Radio Tataouine from Tunisia with RDS around 8:00. All died away after that though.

Some enhancement towards the east too with Crystal Palace Radio 2 on 88.8 and the Peterborough nationals coming in.

Had Chaine 3 on 87.6 briefly on the way home from work with it's unmistakeable dreadfully over-modulated audio.

DX Maps looks interesting:

I had Radio Italia Anni 60 on 87.7 with RDS "ANNI_60_", and Ritmo 80 on 87.8 with RDS "RITMO_80" on my way home just now. These are both from Southern Italy I think.

Still a slight lift in Norwich earlier today - a couple of crappy signals from France and NL on the car radio.

Haven't heard any e-skip yet this year; I think I just haven't been listening enough.

Cloudy and dull and horrible here now

Conditions keep getting strong just to fade down again, wish it would just stay strong already!
