Strange as I plugged my mini TV in the same aerial and this is getting mux 58 from sudbury fine.
I think it might be my router causing this or the TV itself as I moved it and it seems better now.

Some really good signals with RDS from Egem in the car this morning. The stations are still there now but fainter. Anyone else hearing anything?

Hi Catherine, signals from Holland here right now, 538 keeps RDSing, not as good as yesterday when signals were showing 47DB on my tuner!

We've been on holiday down in Exeter the last few days but I didn't do any DXing whilst there. Back home today and not much happening as yet.

Some tropo here now with the usuals in SE England & East Anglia enhanced (including Kiss 106.4) as well as Lille. I also briefly heard Omroep Zeeland on 87.9 when I first switched on as well as something playing No Doubt's 'Don't Speak' on 87.7, possibly Radio 10 Gold?

A brief burst of Es a few minutes ago. Had a few signals on the bottom half of the band including:

88.4 pop
88.9 2 stations xfading
91.4 pop
91.5 YL talk in Croatian?, good signal
92.0 Balkan folk music

Other channels were active too but it was oddly quiet below 88 MHz. No RDS this time as I have the Yamaha T-2 tuner hooked up.

Did anyone else have what sounded like Turkish music on 87.8 a few minutes ago? I have a recording of this; initially it was Radio Dalmacija but then a little later the music took over the channel, not Radio Dalmacija as I checked the stream. Some speech also faded up mentioning Mostar but I'm not certain whether this was the same station. What I presume was Laikos FM also came in on 87.6 with a good signal just afterwards.

Wonder what 87.8 was?

I have listened to the recording and the station mentioning Mostar is clearly something else as it is xfading with the music station at one point.

So any ideas anyone? Did I really hear Turkey on August 28th?

I was alerted early this afternoon that Band 2 was open to the Balkans so, on checking here I found quite a few signals up to about 93 MHz. These dropped out after a few minutes during which there was a lull in conditions. Then, on 87.8 at 1 pm local (1200 UTC) I caught a TOTH ID from Radio Dalmacija, after which I immediately started recording, results below:

https://app.box.com/s/v1x1szwjnr4ibm1llxm8

I left it recording and have kept it complete to give an idea of the conditions. Dalmacija fades out quite quicky, but then about 2 and a half minutes in a station very gradually fades up playing what to me sounds very Middle-Eastern with a YL vocalist and orchestral backing. The lyrics sound Turkish to me. The signal peaks up well on several occasions, together with a station with news mentioning Mostar, so this could be from BIH. DX Maps at the time was showing 2 Es clouds, one over N/E France, and another further SE over the Adriatic/Balkans. So maybe the conditions were right for something a bit more exotic.

Shortly after this reception I had a presumed Laikos FM from Thessaloniki on 87.6:

https://app.box.com/s/gnnhn0q6atfmll3gm9v6

It seems likely from some responses on another group that this is Turkey, but the main station that plays this style of music, Küpe FM, isn't listed on 87.8. It *might* be a station from a former Yugoslav republic, but so far Turkey seems the best bet. I can scarcely believe I'm writing all this on August 28th!

Plenty of French, Dutch and Belgian stations last night, including some I don't hear very often, such as:

87.7 Radio 10
90.7 SubLime FM
91.1 Slam!FM
96.8 3FM - heard despite semi-local KL FM next door on 96.7
97.8 either Radio 2 or Radio Veronica

Just turned on the T-2 tuner and Brest is in on 89.4 and 95.4 virtually fully quieting. 89.4 is lighting the stereo lamp just about. This is a good sign.

The Hepburn maps suggest very good tropo towards Spain over the next few days. If conditions look good down that way I will drive up to Lynch Hill Park again and do another bandscan.

Good lift this Wednesday by the looks of it

No idea how, but I got Kiss FM 106.4 from Suffolk on Hathersage Road in Sheffield (at least 150 miles), very surprised to find there was no tropo, been able to pick it up ever since. Also got Capital Glasgow just off the A69 in Newcastle without tropo.

This comes as no surprise to me. The Mendlesham transmitter in Suffolk gets out really well. I can receive it constantly, without tropo, here in Lincoln.

It seems to transmit forever going North and West but not so good to the South as it brakes up just past South of Colchester though.
Though Kiss on 100.0 then comes in.
I bet it would keep going if Capital was not on 106.4 in the North and Jack to the west plus Bright FM.

Capital gets in the way but Kiss on 106.4 FM is probably the station from far away I have received the most in this town.

For anyone interested in MW dx I received a US station on 1510khz at 0500 this morning. It was talk show and I believe it was from Boston although I didn't receive a positive station ID. Nevertheless it was definitely from the States and after checking MW list Boston seemed like the obvious source.

Wow that's great, nice catch! I'm still to have my first Trans Atlantic DX, but not sure if it is possible right on the East coast

I have never had Kiss on 106.4 because I am directly in Capital's TSA. I have, however, had it on 106.1 FM at one point briefly, which covers Norwich I think.

Excellant catch. It does happen thanks to a double hop off the E layer but it need a path of darkness across the Atlantic. Winter is the best time for trans Atlantic AM reception
