So there, sadly, we have it. Pet insurance doesn't cover everything and it is still wise to have a contingency fund. If you hadn't had access to money - source irrelevant - your pet insurance was not sufficient to prevent your cat being put down.
Pet insurance is good but isn't always enough - as you have clearly explained - to keep a pet alive.
However, this thread was originally about offering advice to a poster with an unwell cat. As that objective seems to have been achieved, I'll leave you to any further persevering...

This thread now seems to be about point scoring
Those of us with jobs will always have access to
some money - and in the example I outlined above about my own cat, with insufficient funds available - but with lots of supportive family - I also had the choice to take my cat home

In fact, I probably should have because the very next day I was called at work by my own vet to take her home with the advice that she was inevitably heading towards euthanasia - she had not responded to any of her cancer treatment and she was put to sleep the following Friday. I would never have agreed to have some strange locum vet put my cat to sleep on that Sunday, particularly over a financial dispute, but I trusted my own vet's clinical judgement. And I just need to explain again that, although I do not have a contingency fund as such, the reason why £250 was difficult for me to fund at that time was because my 20% excess was already reaching £1000. I am sure even you will agree that most ordinary people do not have a spare £1250 in their current account....or even in their contingency fund (I believe yours is 500 euros?)
I repeat that all contingency funds tend to be used, when funds become low, on essential living expenses and keeping a roof over your head is rather more important than having a pet contingency fund, particularly if you have a good insurance policy. You yourself have evidently never had financial difficulties, which is good for you, but there are many people in this country who are losing their jobs through no fault of their own. I would much rather these people try to keep their pets/cats as best they can rather than take them to already overburdened rescue centres (or in extreme cases, abandon them
