Bigbang are the best boyband i have ever seen and trust me, i don't get impressed easily. One direction, the wanted and other boybands pale in comparison. They are considered the Kings of the KPOP Industry. They are innovators in their field and their music speaks for itself. They were the first boyband to have two rappers in a group, which was unsual in the KPOP world. Their style of music is endless, they do pop, rnb,trance, dance, hiphop, ballads and rap.

Their new album is amazing and that is when i became hooked on them. Once you listen to Bigbang, you don't go back. You are addicted and you feel enriched by their music.

I 100% agree, im a big kpop fan and bigbang are my favourite boy group, so talented with a mix of voices and rappers, the songs are always inventive and creative and they always look the part. Best boyband (although I guess they're technically a man band lol) that ive seen in years, they seriously put acts like One Direction and The Wanted to shame.

Sorry but they don't convince me at all. All boybands are by default a bit sh!t, purely - if not partially - because when in a boyband, boyband members like to pretend that being in a boyband is something that even those not in a boyband think is Actually Quite Cool, when in fact, the coolness of boybands tends to be limited to the boybands themselves.

Yes, I get what you're saying, and that aplies to Western bands for sure, but kpop is different, the entire genre is made up of groups, members within these groups sometimes do solo albums, but then they go straight back to their groups. In Korea because there are so many groups they are seen as very cool, my main point is that they arent always tied down within the band, they're free to come and go as they please, Im not sure im explaining this right tbh.

Were you not impressed by any of the videos or songs? The leader in the group called G-Dragon writes and produces all of their songs which is very rare for a member of a boyband or anyone in the music industry for that matter. Boybands are not shite. Take That and Backstreet boys are great so were the Jackson 5. They can be as talented as a solo singers. Bigbang can sing, dance, rap and even act. They are multitalented and that is hard to find in this day and age.

I love BigBang. They're great! G-Dragon aka Kwon Jiyong is unbelievably talented, all the five members bring something to table and they're just so innovative so dedicated and it's really quite refreshing. I'm not really that into boybands or k-pop at all, but I am hooked on Big Bang. I adore nearly all their songs and they've turned me into a shameless fan girl.

I've tried listening to other groups such as SNSD, SHINee, DBSK, etc etc, and I just can't connect with them. It's all very robotic and puppety, whereas with BigBang and many YG acts, the artistic freedom they get is amazing and really makes it easy for me to connect with them. When I hear songs like MONSTER or Lovesong, I can feel the emotion in the song, but
I personally dont get that with say SHINee's Sherlock for example.

Nonetheless, I appreciate that some people love SHINee and etc, my point is that BIGBANG are more impressive because rather than following trends, they make it, and you can tell they really understand and study music. Once again, it's refreshing! I really am impressed and taken by them!

Im a big SHINee fan but I get what you mean, YG seems more open and allows their groups to do more and have more creative control, SM acts seem more.....manufactured, although YG acts are trained as well, they just seem to have less involvement although SHINee are amazing singers and dancers. I cant describe it exactly, but I do get what you're saying.

This is good ammunition for the "Credibility" argument, but my argument comes back to the aged-old (or it would be if more people paid attention) argument of "So... they write their own songs; so what?".

Seeing as she's so popular on the forum at the moment, I'm sure readers won;'t mind if I use the Burke as an example. Burke is lauded for writing her own material and frequently fans defend her musical ability for being able to do so. However, what use is it that she can write her own songs, produce or co-produce or co-write or whatever, if the songs themselves are actually quite poor? Why should be be praised for writing her own songs if they can't get any better than 'Elephant' or 'Let It Go'? And since when did we expect any less tha a good, strong song-writing ability from our musicians?

I don't feel convinced by BIGBANG in the slightest. They just don't come across as convincing rappers of whatever they want to be, thus I find their music somewhat awkward to listen to. Some nice melodies, though.

And you needn't lecture me on the nature of K-Pop; I am hugely familiar with it (not that it makes any difference to the quality of the music).

I think what makes Bigbang special and different to other acts is that they don't just dance and sing very well, the have lot of charisma, they do not do polished dance moves, instead they are more spontaneous and enjoy themselves on stage. They own the stage and perform with so much swagger. GD and TOP are one of the most charismatic stage performers i have seen in a very long time. Taeyang is an excellent dancer and a great vocalist, Seungri had one of the sweetest voices i have ever heard and Daesung is a great vocalist. They allow the audience to come in with them and enjoy their performances.

Other boybands in kpop are talented however Bigbang are the most popular because they are five talented individuals who work very well as a group. They stand out.

Strange. Anyway, you don't have to like BIGBANG. I disagree that they're not convincing rappers, they definitely are and I don't find their music at all awkward to listen to but that's individual differences. The difference between Burke and BIGBANG is they actually sell music and are actually praised for their musical skills, they're very talented and this is something that they are recognised for.

Their fan base is forever growing, they've broken many records and have set many records of their own. E.g. Being the first Koreans to win an EMA. They're not comparable to Alexandra Burke at all as they are actually enjoying huge success from writing their own material and not being manufactured puppets. Something that is strange in the k-pop industry and should, IMO, be commended whether you're a fan of them or not.

Okay everyone calm down before you proverbially kill yourselves. The songs were bad examples then, but fans... fans like iseloid use it as an excuse for her validation as a musician. She is not a musician. She is a sheep.

I am acutely aware of the K-Pop industry and the OP's post was not my introduction to BIGBANG - I do appreciate their musical resilience and innovation but in my opinion the music is not of a high enough standard to be considered anything other than typically 'boyband', even for Eastern culture. I made a juxtaposing comparison between Burke who is/has been successful and BIGBANG who haven't (in the UK, please note) - why any of you think I was actually aligning them is beyond me. It annoys me when these british "stars" go on interviews and say " I co-wrote six songs on the album" etc... What do you want a medal? When they say things like this you know they suck at songwriting.

I'm sure I heard somewhere Alexandra wrote or at least co-wrote a few songs for 'Overcome' and assumed that, leaving Syco and supposedly "regaining creative control" she might actually have the incentive not to bargain with off-the-shelve songs like 'Elephant' and 'Let It Go' for 'Heartbreak on Hold'. My bad!

The problem is...
You have to prove very early on to your label that you can write hits, otherwise they wont trust you, or give you much freedom.
I doubt she'll ever be given the chance to write a whole album herself... Whereas someone like Rebecca Ferguson has shown her ability, and she can write whatever she pleases, the label will look at this sucess and trust her.

I love those songs too. I love that all their songs are very different but yet still have that Bigbang stamp. The song we belong together is a straight up hiphop/rnb song which is something that boybands don't do. This makes them very unique. It sucks that the UK have bland boybands like The Wanted, JLS and One direction. Bigbang puts all of them to shame.
