Elton John

Surely time to call it a day after last night's dreadful performance?

I thought he was truly awful. This was a huge event and he simply failed to deliver.

He is a shadow of his former self. I used to really like him but I think age has caught up with him now. It may be time to concentrate on being a dad and leave the music in the past.

The younger guys like Robbie and Gary Barlow put him to shame last night.

I am definitely not that big an Elton fan as I don't like all the rude things he's said about Madonna, my favourite artist over the years. But could his bad performance have had something to do with his illness that he was recently in the hospital for? Because the other times I've heard him sing in recent years, he sounded fine. I guess maybe he felt he couldn't cancel because it was such an important event even though his voice wasn't right. I don't think people should write him off based on one bad performance that could have been due to an illness.

Elton's voice has been shot for ever now. I wasn't as much a fan of his album with Leon Russell but I loved 'The Captain And The Kid'. He sounded great on his 60th concert gig at MSG 6 years ago and his voice was shot then. I think he can still give a decent performance. He hasn't changed his set list in years though it seems when gigging it seems, the guys a machine though playing some 120 concerts a year I read

I'm Still Standing was just awful.

I saw him in Glasgow some years back and he was dire. He was so not interested and surly to the audience. Thankfully Billy Joel was on the same night and he was brilliant.

And as this the best three songs he could pick from his huge back catalogue?

He's probably had one 'last concert' too many but judging by the success of Gnomeo and Juliet he still has other options left.

i agree Elton should give up performing live now in public but to say Robbie put him to shame i dont think so, he really thinks he's special the way he acts on stage but to be honest he's had his day also.

elton's voice has been shot for years since around 2001 madison square gardens even then was not that bad.
1997 big picture album was his last fantasic vocal performances ever since then his voice in decline.
Too much touring no vocal rest can't even be bothered to sing well very sad especially since tom jones still sounds good
Worst performance was piers morgan last year has no range left at all time to call it a day maybe write for other artists?.

I've always been an Elton fan, but even I thought he was awful last night. And Ciffy sounded well dodgy too. I was prepared to blame the sound system, but then it didn't affect Tom (or Grace) Jones!

I saw clips of Elton, Cliff and Tom...first impressions: there's something a bit wrong with the volume. Or some below par performances. Also, Elton seemed to be in a bad mood.

Losing a bit of weight would help and he's probably overworking his voice with the Las Vegas residency. Add to that the fact he was recently hospitalised, he really ought to have cried off...
