He'd probably be happy with that. Then if we're lucky he will pop up on twitter and tell us how to make dinner.

Yes the contestants must like him as he was voted favorite housemate twice and Arron's reasons for nominating him were based on the fact that he didn't interact with him much, so hopefully he will be safe for a while I agree that at the inital stages the attention is focuses on the attention seekers and faux romances  I can't wait for the housemates have been reduced and we get to know the individual housemates better.

Quote:
“I think he will always be pretty quiet to be honest, which is annoying some people. When he was telling someone not to mind too much what people thought of them, he said something like "I don't mind if people think I'm boring." I continue to find it likeable that he is not emoting all over the place and trying to establish a persona, but in the long term he doesn't look like a winner. I would like him to stay past week 4 which was when my last two favourites left.”

That's one of the reasons why I like him too, he reminds me of the type of housemate that was in the earlier series before
they became too self aware, creating fake, outrageous personas and faux romances. Even though he appears easy going and quiet and I don't necessarily think that will have a
detrimental impact on his chances of getting to the final, as lots of quieter housemates have proven to be popular such as glyn (BB7). I hope he makes it far in the competition.

Thanks, I've just looked her up. I've noticed his wife is also on twitter ( I feel like such a stalker )

Having a F2M transgender son myself, I have a real soft spot for Luke A. I know all of the trials and tribulations that come with the territory, and admire how well adjusted he is.

I feel sure we will start to see more aspects of his personality as time goes by - there was a little flash of irritation with Beccy in the kitchen on last night's highlights.

I do hope wonkeydonkey can break her jinx and that Luke lasts longer than 4/5 weeks.

So do I. I will try not to break any mirrors.

I thought Luke's dad came over really well in the interview, saying that he had lost a gorgeous daughter but was happy to have gained a son. I know parents whose children have changed their NAME and who flatly refuse to use the new name, ever, for the rest of their child's life. Any parent who can start a sentence with the same five words as your post is being a good parent imo.

I guess we are seeing Luke at 31, and that there may have been some storms along the way when he was younger.

Bit of a shame that the only way Luke managed to get two minute's airtime was to have a brief spat with becky. I did feel for him though - it must be so monumentally aggravating for a quiet person in a crowd of noisy people to start cooking, only to have people come in and start reorganising everything at the top of their voices. Becky meant no harm, but seemed to have the emotional intelligence of a rhino at that moment. It would be nice to see him saying something when he is not upset though. The forum is full of people saying he is not 'doing anything', though presumably he does not become a disembodied spirit for all but a minute a day.

I know I was hoping they would show more of him during the task but too much time was taken depicting Arron in a good light and Chris as an idiot. It's frustrating that we didn't get to see the build up to his disagreement with Becky,as we only really saw the tail end of it and it seemed to come out of nowhere . For all we know she could have been irritating him all day as she seems like she could be quite domineering but I guess the producers want to tell a story, which paint their preferred housemates in a good light. This is why we need live feed.

Thanks for your kind comments WD. I have heard some deeply upsetting stories from my lad about online friends of his who have been turfed out by their parents and been left homeless, or have been beaten to a pulp by fathers and brothers. I feel maternal towards them all.

I am pleased to see that some very offensive posts on a thread about Luke have been removed. I was shaking with rage when I read them and had to walk away from my laptop till I cooled down. Sadly, many more people than are prepared to admit, harbour bigoted and prejudiced views of that type and it is what members of the transgender community face every day of their lives. I worry constantly that my son will be outed to people who do not know and suffer as a consequence.

I am already getting really angry with some people on the main forum. Just the constant "I'm so funny" use of 'she' - so effing rude. I think it should be a banning offence.

On a brighter note, lovely interview with his mother: http://www.flintshirechronicle.co.uk...0cOZpQ.twitter

Sad though that she remembers him as an unhappy child.

That's horrible I've been shocked at how many hateful, ignorant and prejudiced people have felt the need to post vile and puerile comments on this forum, I can't imagine what it must be like for you and your son to be subjected to this in real life. It's hard to believe that some people are still so bigoted in this day and age.

Damn, now there is a line about him being annoyed that he wasn't allowed to choose the shopping as much as other people. He could really do with a mention that was not about something upsetting him.

I hope it was only a passing comment or maybe he was justified in saying it.

I was picking my son up from 6th form college last year and as he approached the car I could see that he was angry and upset. It transpired that 2 girls (themselves from an ethnic minority who would undoubtedly have experienced prejudice) had sneered and sniggered at him, calling him a weirdo and a freak.

I was livid and had to be restrained by him as I was all for getting out of the car to tear them to shreds (verbally I hasten to add). He didn't want me to say anything as it would make everything worse and wouldn't let me report them to the college principal. This was because they were protected due to their ethnicity and that it would stir up a hornet's nest!

My son then told me that many people were just the same and that he didn't say anything to me because he knew I would get upset.

I would like to say though that my lad has a wide circle of supportive friends, the family were brilliant when they found out and he has spent his gap year working abroad (in stealth and no-one has suspected anything).

He is set for uni in September (maths and philosophy) and life is good.

WD I too think that persistently and maliciously calling transgendered HMs by their previous gender should mean an immediate and permanent ban.

Oh my, zeebra. I'm glad he is doing well. I would have been just like you, wanting to leap out of the car and put everything right, with menaces, but sometimes you just can't.

He was always going to get irritated about the shopping. He's a chef. And he's not real bossy like Rex was so would just take charge and rail road over everybody. Luke is going to get mega irritated over the shopping.

I hope he lasts long enough for the numbers to go down a bit. It must seem literally impossible for a quiet person to get a word in with everyone round him bellowing their heads off. I THINK this is the biggest number of housemates we have ever had at once, and even when a show starts off with 12 it feels like a crowd.

Why doesn't Luke have an accent? If he grew up first in South Africa then in Wales, why does he sound just English? Or are my ears just hopeless?

I'm glad your son is doing really well for himself and isn't letting those malicious people stop him. He shouldn't have to put up with though, I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for you

Those posters comments have been flagged so hopefully, action will be taken to ban them.

I presume he moved to the UK at very young age and he now lives in Mold, which isn't far from Chester. I'm from North East Wales and most people there have the same neutral accent as Luke.

There's been a lot less "he/she" comments today I've noticed.

yes, I think the banana gets more attention than Luke. Oh well. I think the three peaks race covering Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Kilamanjairo would be challenging.
