Emmerdale - What on earth are they doing!!!
I know that there have been other threads regarding Emmerdales quailty lately. I have to express again my feelings that I am honestly sick of viewing in horror at Emmerdale recently, what are the writing team thinking of?????
As a viewer of over 20 years I think I am entitled to express that the show needs a good kick up the backside!!!!!! |

The last good bits were Cain's garage being torched (although the blame-game after that was rubbish) and Ashley growing horns and belting his old man. The Val and Eric and Brenda and their ridiculous B & B panto is worthy of a Brian Rix farce and Amy-"Alice Cooper" Wyatt.. Apart from Alicia lamping Val we have Zak goes mad... ...whilst we all snooze and long for Amos and Mr Wilkes doing a fry up.... |

Mr Blackburn is ruining Emmerdale. Why this man was given this job I will never know. Also the writers have all become brain dead as well. Some of the stuff that they are coming out with is a total disgrace. I actually feel that Mr Blackburn is actually worse than Brian Kirkwood. |

It is so bad now it makes Emmerdale Farm when I watched it at dinnertime a couple of times a week with Matt & Dolly look exciting. Actually, Home Farm with Alan Turner, Seth, Joe Sugden and the Woolie with Amos and Mr Wilkes was damn good. |

Emmerdale is in a dire state right now someone on another thread said which is so true that the storylines are going nowhere and getting there slowly! The show imo has got a wide range of good character and brilliant actors but its just a shame they have got a wide range of idiot storyliners and writers to go with it! Seriously who actually gives a toss about The Spencers, Who actually wants Laurel and Marlon to get together, Who actually loves this stupid cringeworthy Cameron and Chas afffair, Who actually wants to see Ashley get crucified by a bunch of hypocrites the show needs to get down and work hard at delivering intresting storylines! |

I had watched it for 20 years or so, but stopped around the time they started with the Zak storyline a couple of months ago, plus the other rubish story's already mentioned.
It needs to go back to it's Emmerdale Farm roots. |

Still entertaining for me.
Perhaps I'm just easily pleased but other than a few storylines I'm not overly keen on (Marlon and Laurel, Chas and Cameron) I will still keep tuning in.

But even Ash lamping overacting Sandy was somehow unconvincing although Alicia's slapping Val was something we all would want to do. Repeatedly. But the rest is pants. Especially the Zak dreary plot. |

Maurel just went around in circles to the point where it felt the actors were just saying the same lines to each other over and over again, now following the demonisation of Ashley they are revisiting a love story the never worked the first time around Chas and Cameron, which could have been fun if they had let Cameron break up with Debbie and properly get with Chas, are headed the same way; endless scenes of them saying they can't be together and then sleeping with each other again ![]() They threw Ashley under a bus and ironically this village wide persecution of the man seems to have backfired because the writers don't seem to understand that the viewers have watched him for over 15 years, they know the character and, as viewers, we will always have sympathy for a character who is trying to make amends only to find themselves bullied, humiliated and ostracised by people who have made plenty of mistakes themselves Zak's mental illness is also going nowhere; even though he's been involuntarily sectioned (though Lisa doesn't know what that means ![]() ); he now he appears to have been discharged at his own request, his vague condition hasn't improved, in fact he seems worse than when he went in and has just chucked his pills away, so presumably he's going to go downhill and end up back in hospital- it's not going anywhere Sadly, I think this really is his vision for the show- I remember one of his first interviews when he said he wanted to make the show more urbane- it's set in a picturesque country village in the Yorkshire Dales- that it's not an urban soap is its main selling point- I felt even then he didn't understand the heart of the show and what viewers liked about it There should be a rich family, preferably with a strong matriachal figure in Home Farm; they should have far more character driven scenes; Corrie isn't perfect but they do this much better, you will often have characters having a drink in the pub or the cafe and they aren't talking about anything in particular, it's doesn't necesarily advance a particular plot but not every scene needs to be advancing a plot, these scenes where characters interact are not just filler; they allow us to get to know the characters and see friendships and relationships develop; there is far to little of this in Emmerdale at the moment I really liked the recent scenes between Jai and Noah, probably the best scenes of recent weeks, there was nothing particularly dramatic about them, they were probably the 4th storyline in between Zak and Ashley and the supposed main dramatic plots; but to see them bonding and to see Jai reassure Noah that he was part of his family was really sweet, lots of viewers will come from families where there are step children and second marriages etc, viewers can relate to scenes like this because it is something they experience too This show has lost its way and it's lost it's heart, a soap needs drama but we also need to care about the characters and see that the characters care about each other, otherwise it's just lots of miserable people shouting at each other

It's definitely going through a lull, and now that Alicia's on the way out the best story they have at the minute is about to be over... hopefully they make the most of Charity, Gennie and the Sharmas this summer, develop Carl and Megan too, and keep Moira at the heart of things once the girls are gone. All of those units are so much more entertaining than Chas/Cameron/Debbie or Ashley's crucifixion.

As a long time fan of the show I have to say I'm finding it extremely difficult to watch of late, Zak's storyline is very poor and I long for it to end, the Ashley and Laurel has also gone too far. Declan at Home Farm just doesn't work and as for the return of Val.....! If things don't pick up soon I'm seriously going to stop watching.

I agree about the merry-go-rounds:
"Maurel just went around in circles to the point where it felt the actors were just saying the same lines to each other over and over again, now following the demonisation of Ashley they are revisiting a love story the never worked the first time around Chas and Cameron, which could have been fun if they had let Cameron break up with Debbie and properly get with Chas, are headed the same way; endless scenes of them saying they can't be together and then sleeping with each other again" I mean it's like each day's script is Xeroxed from the previous day. And just where is the Zak story going and er...who cares? One thing that was great. The pigs were on great form last night. Really deep grunting and belching. Unless that was Belle.

I still enjoy watching it. I don't need to know who the director is or if the writers are asleep at the wheel. The actors are great and do good jobs at working with what they are given. People have complained with a health related storyline that is resolved in quick fashion as that particular illness is more long term so it's unrealistic if it is all better fast. when they do take the time to show the process of a longterm illness again people whinge, it's taking to long or it's boreing now. it's a no win situation. dang if you do dang if you don't.
Maybe just watching is good instead of piece by piece examination. |

Sorry but that doesn't make sense to me. If you don't have any standards as a viewer you're nothing more than a sheep, watching because it's the done thing to do rather than because you enjoy it. I get that *you* probably just watch soap to pass the time but other people are fans of the genre so bad soap can be pretty frustrating.

I cant watch it.Since the Spencers arrived it is beyond boring / dire and the Aaron departure was ridiculous.Everything is pathetic and depressing about it.

Another Emmerhate thread!
Says it all really. The Spencers and the Maceys are a disaster for a start - they ALL need to go. Get the Sharmas up at Home Farm, get some humour back, give the oldies something to do, get rid of the deadwood (Alex, Moira, Adam) and bring back some characters like Sandie Merrick and Robert Sugden to give the show some heritage. It's not flamin' rocket science, is it!
