There must be something going on at Sky Osterley with these services being in the clear. I had a sneaky suspicion it might have gone FTA again. Lets see if it lasts or not.

I cant see Challenge/Pick TV on my box in the Freesat Channel list (cycled through the lot). Do I need to retune?

There not on freesat! Although they are FTA. So you need to put the box in non freesat mode then run a tune!

I've got a picture in my head of Derek500 sat at home flicking an encryption switch on and off while laughing manically.

If you have a Humax HDR and Raydon's excellent custom firmware package, you can add them to the Freesat channel line-up with the Channel Editor, although you don't get the EPG info of course. You don't then need to switch to non-Freesat mode to view them.

Is there a firmware for the Humax HD box ?

what about other devices ? - any firmware that does the same ?

It's able to be done with the Humax Foxsat HDR as the hard drive can be utilised to store data. Obviously the same method cannot be used for the Humax Foxsat HD.

Can you schedule recordings on the Humax if you add non freesat channels to the EPG?

No EPG data is available due to the way they are added to the EPG with the custom firmware, so no would be the simple answer, but you could set a manual recording if you knew the start and end times.

Is Pick TV still FTA? It disappeared the other day, I did a re-tune and it still wasn't there, though the Challenge channels were.

Do I need to do another manual re-tune, or has Pick gone for good?

Yeah. I did another retune and so on and they were there.

It's a bit tricky with the modified firmware and wanting the channels in Freesat mode.

It seems I have to manually rescan on the box, then go to the networked interface and in the channel editor, import the channel data, modify the settings on the channels (from non-freesat to freesat), restart the box and then also go into my favourite list and re-add & re-order the channels.

It takes quite a while and it's a bit of a PITA, TBH.

Am I making it unnecessarily complicated for myself? Is there an easier way?

It's not THAT hard, considering you only need to do it once (theoretically...)
