If you drink milk, aren't veggie and already eat beef, then you should watch this programme about rose veal.

Sorry, sure.

The programme generally seems to be about getting better food in to tesco. So far both programmes have been getting cheaper free range food, ie a 30p free range sausage.

This episode explains about what rose veal is, with the aim to use it in meatballs. I had a butcher a couple of years ago that still didn't sell rose veal because of the bad stigma it had. Rose veal is calves reared in good conditions, rather than the bad dark battery cages that gave veal its rightly so horrible image. By not even eating rose veal means the calves are killed at birth.

Interesting programme - but it's also proof of the old saying that "anyone who likes sausages (or respects the law) should never watch them being made."

Bought some escalops in a very well known supermarket begining with W recently. Tough and tasteless. I used to love veal back in the 70's, early 80's.

Rose veal can be really good- and the calves are killed later than lambs or pigs. Much better than shooting them at birth

When I can get it I use equal quantities of minced veal, pork & beef for my meatbals. I usually have to be in the US for that though.

I saw the show, it made me think being a vegetarian is pointless.

Bought some rose veal cutlets in waitrose fresh counter at xmas. Lovely as they were, quite expensive. I have no ethical issues in eating rose veal though.

More on the veal in tonight's episode

Episode 3 - Chicken Kiev
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/j...es-1/episode-3
Jimmy Doherty tries to make free range chicken Kievs for Tesco, but will Tesco's customer tasters like them?

Jimmy also campaigns against the slaughter of thousands of male dairy calves.

And he gears up for the launch day of his affordable free-range products, nervous to see if the public will buy them or not.
