With this album he said he wanted a more mature sound, similar to the evolution of Justin Timberlake as an artist, however do you think he'll ever be able to escape his reputation that his music is just for young teen girls? I just think the hate and attention he got was so great that i dont think he'll ever be able to win over enough of an older audience to stay relevant as he grows older and loses the teen girl fans. What do you think?

I think maybe he could, I've seen quite a few comments along the lines of "I hated him before but these songs are great, I think I'll buy his new album". It'll be interesting to see if he can achieve any "credibility" in the future.

No, just no, before Boyfriend came out I was willing to give him a 2nd chance since he was older, but its still the same drivel about young girls being spurted out over and over.

This. He just needs to advance his lyrics. And I'm sure he will in time. Why change the formula if it gets you 521k singles sold in a week?

These sales just prove that he has a large teen-girl fanbase, not that he's taken seriously.

His own fans will be his downfall

No-one will take him seriously and risk being tarred with the beliebler brush...

But once he gets older he'll need new fans to replace them when they move on to the next teen girl heartthrob.

The question is... how long until his fans desert him?

When he cuts his hair?
When he grows facial hair?
When he start singing sexual songs?
When someone younger and prettier comes through?
These teen-girls are fickle.... Who are the Jonas Brothers again?

Even when the girls' obsession has faded, people will still see him as a teeny-bopper. He hasn't got the swagger to gain loads of male fans (like JT or Chris Brown)

Still, atleast he's rich.

No I don't think so. His teen fans will probably grow out of his music though.

He has a get out of jail free card just like Britney did, Just like Christina did and just like Timberlake did.

He is going to be grown up on his next album to transition by having a completely different sound in some way (uber dance?) And getting naked, sweaty, wet, muddy and sexy in the video which will basically be soft porn. This shows rebelluon against his current audience, and 20somethings lap that crap up.

I'm way out of his "target" market, but I really like the songs he's released off his latest album. Of course some of the lyrics are questionable, but he's only 18. He's massively talented, anyone heard him singing acoustically, I think he's terrific.

He has a massively intelligent team with him, and he strikes me as very shrewd as well.

Making the cover of Forbes magazine which he's recently done is no mean feat.

If he chooses to be still in the music business, and I hope he is, he'll still be around in 10 years.

According to his manager, it's only in the UK that JB is in the Teen market, he seems to be more across age ranges in the USA.

My God I sound like a "belieber"

He'll only be taken seriously when/if his looks mature as well as his sound. Justin Timberlake had the look as well as the sound when he made his transition to grown up 'serious music. Justin Bieber does not.

boyfriend wasnt bad but sadly C Maynard released a similar sounding song at the same time and probably stole his thunder in the UK?

If Bieber wants to be taken seriously he needs to do two things IMO:

- Seriously increase his vocal training. His voice was always pretty weak but since it broke his live singing has sounded truly terrible. He said a while ago that he was working with an 'amazing' voice coach to help him with his deeper voice but it definately hasn't worked.

- Stop rapping. Seriously. He has to be one of the corniest 'rappers' I've ever heard. Just because you like hip hop and you hang out with Lil' Wayne doesn't mean you are the next big rapper on the scene.

No we don't i for one value substance over style

As others have mentioned Jt etc their transgressions didnt seem falsified or forced it was a natural progression and a necessary move but Bieber never tires of telling us how grown up he is without changing very much that is what needs to change.

I think he'll win round support no problem - love him or hate him at the moment, he's quite talented at what he does. Boyfriend was a step in the right direction for him to take and certainly got people talking (this time for the right reasons).

But critics are starting to like him, as his new single review shows. If he keeps musically evolving, he'll get the respect. The Beatles had the same thing at the very start, and then they got the respect from critics.
