Noel Gallagher "turned down Strictly"
Doktor Dances
07-06-2012
Noel Gallagher has apparently turned down the chance to appear on BBC's reality show Strictly Come Dancing.

According to today's edition of The Sun, NME's Godlike Genius was approached to take part in the next series of the ballroom dancing show, but turned it down due to scheduling conflicts.

The tabloid quotes him as saying: "I'm flattered. I'd have done it and all as I've recently mastered the sticky task of c***** while dancing. Sadly though, I'm a bit busy. Maybe next time".

A source at the BBC also told the paper: "Strictly always set their targets extremely high. The show gets huge viewing figures and the bookers behind the show are very much of the opinion 'if you don’t ask, you don't get'. They knew from the off it was ambitious but they thought it might be something that tickled him."

Praise the Lord.

The BBC like to set their sights high so they say, why not ask Richard Gere. Saw him dancing with Jennifer Lopez in a film the other night. Or how about Hugh Grant . I'm sure he would be great.

I wonder why TPTB dont always get big names in the show? Im always amazed at some of the stars that their American counterpart(DWTS) get! Is it a problem of money or what?

Some of its a problem with perception....we love it obviously but to some people it still has the naffness of the original Come Dancing.

However if I had a top 10 of people I never want to see on Strictly the Gallaghers would be well up near the top of the list.

Yeah Liam is a thuggish lout so I wouldn't want to see him on Strictly either but I wouldn't have actually minded seeing Noel, obviously though it's not his sort of thing which is why he's turned it down..........I suspect he also didn't want it to ruin his cool 'rock star' image ......shame it would have been nice to see him tripping the light fantastic in sequined shirts and spray tan .....I think they'll always struggle to get a big rock musician/singer on Strictly.

Yes musicians are the one lot they don't seem to get (rock or other styles) although they can get singers, shame as obviously they would have rhythm and musicality and would be good candidates to be taught posture, frame, steps etc,

Harry is the only musician I can think of but he's from a pop/boy band not rock - they've had plenty of singers but not rock singers.....as I said I think they'll always struggle to get people from this genre.......as Jan said earlier in the thread although we love SCD...........some still probably see it as old fashioned light entertainment

Think Harry is a case in point of why they should get more How about someone like Nigel Kennedy, different genre but still (yes I know he's a Marmite person but every contestant is, really)

I'd be impressed if they could get Matt Bellamy (frontman of Muse) to do it, but I think he'd probs do DWTS instead.

Hmm, there's 2 names I can think of that might do it:

Ricky Wilson (lead singer of Kaiser Chiefs)
Serge from Kasabian

They've both on TV a fair bit over the last year (Serge was doing a draw for either FA Cup/Carling Cup a few months ago). I reckon Ricky would probably do it if asked.

In the last series of DWTS they had Gavin DeGraw - I didn't know much about him so I listened to some of his stuff on youtube which I enjoyed and I gather he's quite a successful rock musician/singer/song writer in America.....he wasn't a great dancer but he was such a lovely contestant.........in fact one of the nicest I've seen on these shows....and he had a great partnership with his pro partner Karina......they did a few good routines......I was quite sad when they got knocked out.

It's a pity SCD hasn't managed to get any rock musicians......it would make a change from the usual boy/girl group types.......those on your list sound quite interesting 'I predict a riot' if they get Ricky Wilson

Ricky Wilson is quite physically fit as well so I can see him doing fairly well if he did agree to do it.
