I've been thinking the same thing for a while. It's about time The Archers appeared more on DS. I'm glad there was an article in the soaps section yesterday.

I don't think it appears in the soap awards because it's on the radio. There are separate broadcasting awards, which it is eligible for. Though I would love the show to be included in the regular soap awards, I reckon some of the cast could give the EE and Corrie lot a run for their money.

I suppose it's overlooked at soap awards because it's radio but I don't know why it should be overlooked here. I love it and like the previous poster was pleased to see that article on ds news about the show.

I thought tonights show was really good... Good for Adam and so glad to hear Amy get put in her place, about time she's been driving me nuts. Am very worried about David and Ruth though.

I suppose it's popularity and I imagine the majority of the audience it gets are older people, and I think most of people who come on these forums are younger and probably don't tune into The Archers. I could be wrong, that's just a possibility. I don't listen to The Archers but I love that it's been running for so long and I'd be happy to see it discussed more on these forums. Does it ever get discussed in the Radio forum I wonder?

I don't listen to 'The Archers' either - but many do! I think it should get some credit somewhere.
I remember (as a child in the 60's), my mum listening to things like Mrs Dales Diary and Waggoners Walk. I can still hear their theme tunes NOW!

Because David was a witness to Adam's attack he identified the guys who did it and is due to testify against them. But they've started getting threatening phone calls, odd things happening at the farm. When they lit the beacon the other day and they said 'oooh look there's another one over there' I was sure it was going to be their farm, as no doubt we were meant to think! It sounds like it's going to get worse for them too.

When Julian Clary was on This Morning recently he asked Sharon Marshall why they don't have it on her soap spot...she did include it that once too.

I've never listened to an episode, seems a shame that they've never transferred the show to tv

Agree with all of the above. It was about time Alan put Amy in her place, she's been acting like a child towards Usha for far too long. Carl had a lucky escape!

the archers has the most loyal of fans but also the most critical. it reaches 5 million listerners the likes of tea times soaps would give their right arm to achieve these days.

the archers imo is the best continuing drama and is both modern and up to date but still keeps its charm and warmth.

the archers hasnt sold out unlike the tv soaps and stays true to its characters and its roots. it is the longest running continuing drama in the world now in its 61 year and will run and run just like corrie will on tv.

for those who havent listened to the archers, it isnt just a story of everday country folk, youd be surprised!

The pictures are always better on radio.

memo to mr york, tinker too much at your peril beryl. you will have the wrath of archers addicts!!!

dum di dum di dum di dum, dum di dum di dum dum.

Ruth decided at the last minute to not run off with the new stockman and to give her marriage another go which made Nigel fall off the roof and kill himself.

Meanwhile, it is that time of year again and Linda Snell is suffering from hayfever ...

I'd bet on the littlest Archer getting harmed. Ben is probably small enough to be kidnapped and thrown in the back of a van. I do think Ruth and David should at least tell Pip what's been happening though.

I heard just the end of a discussion on Radio 4 saying that an ex-producer of EastEnders is been brought in to liven it up.

Surely the Archers is an everyday tale of county folk.

Will this mean misery, mayhem and murder in Ambridge!!

I thought this was a great summing up (although I'd add just like EE will run and run too I know it's had some iffy times lately but all soaps do and I have faith!)

Amy's behaviour is appalling towards Usha but she won't see the light until it's been proved to her that Karl is married as she's still in denial and transferring her anger.

I think something is going to happen to the cow that Alistair confirmed was pregnant the other day. It's one of their favourites and loved by either Josh or Ben - can't remember which one. The cow will either be dead or seriously injured and so the intimidation increases.
