Just listening to my weekly Omnibus of the Archers and so far it is really winding me up.......for me this is being dragged out too long, ...... I am so glad that I am going away for a fortnight and recording it, so I can fast forward over these hateful bits with Rob and the Paragon of Hatred that is Ursula...
....of course I know this is soapland, but it is not on our screens, this is on radio and left to the imagination. The rest is just fine for me.......I think I must have lived too long, not wanting to know about the hateful side of life that is being played out for us to listen to. Thank goodness for the fast forward button. |

I think Warwickshire/Worcs border is where it is at. Susan and others have a distinctive midlands edge to their rural accent.

Jezza has one of the worst Scottish accents I have ever heard! Had to check out his bio to see where he originated. Turns out he was born in Glasgow but from the age of 3 has lived in Birmingham, so a Scot by birth but probably normally speaks with a Brummie accent!

I have always imagined it to be around this area. If anyone is going off to the 'Big City' they speak of Birmingham whereas it it was situated any further south (nearer Gloucester) they would speak of Bristol. Haven't heard them mention Bristol much in this respect. Anna Tregorran is based in Birmingham is she not?
I always think of Felpersham as Evesham, which is in exactly the right spot, even though Evesham doesn't have a cathedral. |

His normal accent is Scottish, but softer than Jazzer's. As there are a lot of Scots living in Corby (which is where he's from, not Birmingham) a lot of them speak with a Scots accent. If you want to hear him talking here's a link to an interview he did with Peter White on Radio 4 a while ago
Thankyou! Interesting to hear him talking au naturel!! Still think he tries too hard when doing the Glaswegian thing, sounds like someone who is trying to be Glaswegian - it makes me cringe! |

I speculate Ursula will foul up in some way and help lose the saga for Rob. He will blame her and hit her. |

Why all the pandering to Arsula??
I would literally refer to her as 'fetid bitch' as she came through the door. "Ok toxic witch, thanks for dropping off Henry. Now off you pop to tend your little rapist." |

I think they are going for PTSD here maybe with Pat too but it's conveyed so badly I'm sorry to say it just comes across as whiny moron
Helen is actually sitting in jail whilst railing against the idea that she may err end up in jail. I think I could understand being resigned to her fate more than this and as for Pat why isn't she more angry and forceful and acting more clever about things rather than this new timid stupid version. No idea what the idea is with Pat. I think they've fallen for the cliché that you mellow as you get older. It ain't necessarily so! I'm intrigued as to how it's going to play out. I suspect it depends on how long the storyline is intended to run. If Helen snaps out of it when she hears about Rob getting care of Henry then all her supporting evidence can come into play - the call to the help line, Kirsty, Shula's evidence of Rob's violence, .... But they might be going for a much longer time frame, in which case It'll be the attempted murder route and probably something like someone less involved than family and friends catching Rob out in some way. Or not.

I would have thought that the police, or someone, would have checked the log on the phone Kirsty gave Helen and followed up on the call she made to the help line.
I do hope it ends soon as the "I don't know, can't remember, it's all so difficult" is getting tedious. |

I don't think Shula's evidence will count for much, particularly as she has already lied to the police about what happened. She would be totally discredited in court.
Kirsty, I think, holds the key to all this. She was the only one who Helen confided in and she helped Helen to get things into perspective. It's a shame that Anna Tregorran cannot take her along to one of the meetings with Helen and try to persuade her to talk to Kirsty. I am sure there must be plenty of stuff in Rob's background which he would rather was hidden. He was quick to avoid the background checks that would have to be made in the adoption process by suggesting they went for the Parental Responsibility option instead. The truth will out! I just don't know if Helen's current reactions are lifelike in cases of this nature but I agree it is becoming a bit annoying and whilst sympathising with her situation you just want to scream at her to get talking!! |

I think it's entirely plausible that Helen can't recall what happened. People who have been abused often sort of shut down and can't bear to revisit traumatic events. |

Pat's kow-towing to Ursula is annoying but probably understandable in the circumstances. I suppose she doesn't want to risk peeing them off and creating further animosity, given they're looking after Henry most of the time.
The storyline is so silly anyway. Someone like Ursula would be telling Rob that he needs to focus on getting better, not tiring himself out trying to look after a boy whose mother is a murderer and whose father donated his sperm for money. It just doesn't make sense. We know she's brow beaten by Bruce, but she doesn't mind telling her "Robert" what she thinks. We know that Rob's just doing it to punish Helen for daring to stand up to him, but Ursula would want shot of Helen and, therefore, would be trying to persuade Rob to dump Henry like a hot potato and focus on readying himself for raising the little Roblet once he's spawned. Oh I forgot, if Ursula did any of the above, her role as panto baddy would be compromised. Silly me.

Surely the police should have told Pat that her statement would be used for the prosecution? It seems unfair that she's now forbidden to see Helen. Mind you she really should have phoned Anna before going, to get some advice.
As for Justin's wife, she's a real old battleaxe! It sounds like he had an affair with his last secretary and whatserface thinks there's no danger with Lilian. |

Careful Pat - you don't want to cause another flood.
Kirsty is very likeable in all this, and they are all leaning heavily on her. She and New Tom definitely on for a rekindling I reckon. |

Pat is getting on my last nerve. I think it's good that she can't see Helen - the state she's in she's the last person Helen needs. Tom and Tony will likely be more level-headed when they see Helen.
She was going on as if she'd really screwed up, but would she have had a choice about speaking to the police and becoming a prosecution witness? It would be good if Arsula reciprocated and ended up as a defence witness. I wonder if Pat's right about Helen never forgiving her, I think she could be. |

Well, Tom and Tony seemed to be starting to get through to her. The bit about the custard was very realistic - people often remember the weirdest details about traumatic incidents.
Does anyone else love it when the pigs play up? It really makes me chuckle. |

Good old Tom and Tony. I don't think the visit would have gone as well if Pat had been there - she always seems to rub Helen up the wrong way.
