Perhaps the relief of Helen being acquitted will finish her off.

Her sterling support for Helen could be her swansong.
That'll be an uber fantastic 'well-spotted' in Lakieland if that happens!
Perhaps they'll celebrate Helen's exoneration and then find Peggy passed away next morning

It's a shame Helen isn't having a girl, then if Peggy carked it they could name the baby after her. The only male possibility I can think of is Jake (the Peg) - but that seems wrong for a couple of reasons

Oh dear, Matthew's dumped Pip over the phone.
Ouch!

Eeeek - Spawn is coming down the chute. Prepare the rituals, man the altar, summon the High Priestess!

Anna seemed a bit freaked didn't she?

Helen seems more relaxed at the new place. Good job Pat isn't allowed to visit and upset her

will anyone tell the "bully" that his child has been born? And will he go for custody? I see that the listening figures in th Archers have dropped. Is this because it's been going on for so long and Helens trial is not until September

September!........I have just come back off holiday and have two Sunday catch up programmes to listen to before I get to this Sunday's omnibus.......I came on here hoping to read accounts of Helen having had the trial and being acquitted........in my dreams, it seems...... perhaps I will just not bother listening to the last two, and delete them and just catch up with tomorrows episodes

It's Archers pace.... which is still faster than real life pace!

It's not like Home and Away where people can be arrested for manslaughter on Friday, be tried and convicted on Tuesday, appealed and acquitted a week later and be involved in an amusing ménage à trois by the following day.

Thing is, if Helen doesn't start talking soon (and I am glad to see that anna put her under a bit of pressure at the last meeting) in could be September next year before we get a result!!!

Except Pat would steal the show by wallowing in yet more self pity and guilt. 'It must have been the long drive that Peggy had to go on that really she should have gone on that did her in and or it must have been being Helen's birth partner that really she should have been that was the last straw

LOL

You are quite right I think. Even at the Archer's sedate and moderate pace the time line is sped up. In real life we wouldn't expect this trial until next year probabaly. The case of the guy murdered in a road rage incident in Worthing last summer has only just been heard by the courts and in that case there wasn't even really a defence.

Am listening to this week's story in the Omnibus broadcast. I have had a light bulb moment. Does anyone know anything about PTSD. I note that Helen is really obsessing about trivia, her things, the van etc. Is that a known reaction to PSTD?

I see it not so much as obsessing about trivia but casting round finding anything to talk about with Anna as a diversionary tactic so she can avoid discussing what is important for her case.

Yes absolutely. And I am wondering if that is a PSTD symptom. Anything to avoid the elephant in the room.

I honeetly don't see how Pat being there at the birth would compromise the court case. With two prisoner officers and a midwife (independant and appointed by someone other than Helen) to testify to what is said, I can't see there is much risk.

And more to the point how many women in the throes of childbirth have the head space to discuss tactics for a trial? Usually all they can manage is a few expletives. Maybe Anna should be there. Helen may curse Rob in a rather enlightening way during labour.

I don't know about it being a feature of PTSD, but it's a fairly common response to trauma. It's called displacement - concentrating on anything to avoid thinking about the traumatic event.

It happens when people suffer sudden bereavements, too.

Peggy will be there to hear, and let Anna know!

Yes that was the link I am making. One of the reasons we have funerals I am sure is because it gives those closest to the deceased a whole load of little details to obsess about; hymns, flowers, finger rolls and so forth.

If I was evil, manipulative Rob, as soon as I heard about the birth, I'd go to the Registry Office and register the birth calling the baby Robert.
