I think Heather has been offered choices - she could move to Ambridge or into sheltered housing, but if she refuses to budge from her house I don't suppose there's much David and Ruth could do about it.

Does Ruth have any siblings? Perhaps they could club together and hire a live in companion for Heather?

Not sure if Heather knows of David and Ruth's plans to sell up, but she seemed quite a reasonable person, so maybe when she finds out she'll agree to the sheltered accommodation.

I like the older references. In our family we talk about the oldies who aren't with us any more, especially when there are current activities that bring to mind memorable or funny events.

The trouble seems to be that she is getting increasingly frail and with that the mind begins to fail. Not that she is losing her marbles, but with many older people, perspective is lost and they become insular and self involved.

So her daughter may have to force the issue. If Heather pet still refuses point blank to budge then I can see why Ruth feels she has to be closer.

But it's not practical or logical.

And her and David won't have the profit from the sale of Brookfield, they will have a portion of it, and what size portion we don't know.

We haven't heard from Heather at all but Ruth has reported her saying she doesn't want to give up her independence and go into sheltered accommodation, she also said she didn't want to move and leave all her friends and she has apparently also said that David and Ruth shouldn't sell up and move just for her.

David's position seems to be that moving will be a last resort, only if the road gets built but that doesn't really make sense as Heather will need looking after whether the road is built or not. I think Ruth's acting out of pure guilt and is being a wee bit sneaky as I think she wants to move whatever, so is pushing for that but I don't think she's really thought it through either as you're right, what if Heather pops her clogs as soon as they move

I want Jill to stay and move in with Carol. I like them both and think they'll have a hoot. Also I'd love David and Ruth to move as they are so very dull but I really can't see it happening which makes me think the road won't go ahead through Home Farm and that poor Heather's days are numbered.

The panto stories annoy me too - not sure they work on the radio, with every hilarious event having to be explained to us by one of the characters.

I did think it was funny though, when Lillian was in it and nipped out for a fag At least, I think that was the panto.

Love the line developing re the Archer children having stakes in Brookfield should there be a sale- there's going to be a good deal of tension when Ruth realises this.

The way Rob is beginning to control Helen is really insidious and is being unfurled very realistically.
This is often exactly how domestic violence and control starts. The way he got her thinking she's got to text him when she goes out of the house was chilling.

Makes you realise how wealthy the agricultural community is (and I don't mean hobby farmers and smallholders, but the old farming families in all localities in the UK).

It's an odd kind of wealth though - all tied up in assets and land, to which there is also very often a deep traditional and sentimental attachment.

They may be asset rich, but they could be cash poor.

As small businesses go (which a family run farm is) it is pretty small beer. It only looks a lot if you were thinking of selling up and spending it all on cheap strong supermarket cider and a satellite TV subscription.
