As someone who listened to the Archers years ago, and rediscovered it a couple of years ago, the thing that hit me was the terrible acting of some of the younger cast members. Pip is abysmal, with two or three others not much better. But 'Tom' always seemed believable.
But this actor really was Tom Archer and he played him exactly as the script and storylines required. To be given the sack after 17 years of giving a good and convincing rendition is pretty grim. Shame on the BBC for allowing it to happen. |

I'm hoping that David and Ruth sell Brookfield and move north only to discover that Route B has to be scrapped because of the underground spring. After many dark and dirty deeds Rob emerges to become the eventual owner of Brookfield. The 'Heathcliff' of the Archers
![]() I'd really like David and Ruth to go, but not Jill. And I want Jill to tell David, she's sorry but she doesn't want to give up her life in Ambridge and she's staying. I really hate the way David and Ruth (Druth??) are ploughing on with their plans and expecting everyone to go along with them I know it was all agreed, but it doesn't seem right that they are going to use the proceeds from selling Brookfield, which Shula, Kenton and Elizabeth part own, to buy a new farm. Will the new farm belong partly to them all too, and what about Daniel. Freddie and co - aren't they entitled to a share? It didn't seem to even cross David and Ruth's minds either, that they should tell the others what they were planning before they put the farm on the market - Jill had to tell them to!I still think the writers are teasing us though - there'll be a bit of drama, but there'll have to be Archers at Brookfield, and unfortunately that probably means David and Ruth are going nowhere ![]() ![]() I like Jill's laugh, and I'm enjoying her scenes with Carol. They both come across as so young - but Jill must be quite old. Is Carol more like Jennifer's age, or older? Tom's voice really got on my nerves, so I won't be sorry to see him recast, but his acting seemed ok - quite convincing in the wedding storyline. The producer's reasons for getting rid of the actor are ridiculous - good actors can come from any background. |

Great post
![]() All I can add is a bit more more love for sinister Rob He really is very good at manipulation. Hasn't something already happened between Adam and Charlie I seem to remember they went out somewhere and though we didn't hear anything specific it seemed as if they had moved on in their relationship. Adam was certainly acting like a scorned lover around Charlie and his sister :o Anyway where is Ian? Wouldn't he have normally been at that 'do' ![]() ![]() I'm not sure though. If they have, then Adam is desperate for a repeat performance and Charlie is playing hard to get. If they haven't - Adam really wants to and Charlie is playing hard to get

Does this mean Pat is the only member of that Archer family who is still played by their original actor?

I agree 100%. If Pip were being given the heave-ho I wouldn't really mind as she hasn't the talent to cut it.
Agree with you about Tom though. |

Lilian has been recast, she was previously played by Elizabeth Marlowe. So, it's Pat and Jennifer so far. Oh, and Peggy! June Spencer was briefly replaced, but she came back.

the very problem (route B) that is forcing David & Ruth to sell is going to deter anyone wanting to take on the property as a working farm.
I can see Justin Elliott buying it and converting the farmhouse into his 'rustic hideaway.' The land on the other side of the new road could be sold off by him, or lumped in with the BL holdings. I can imagine how delighted Ruth would be with THAT turn of events ..... it might even put her off selling up. The planning inspector could call it in and it could go to public enquiry, that can take a couple of years. There could be a judicial review because the council failed to give sufficient weight to one factor or another (like the brown hairstreak), Justin Elliott or someone could have been giving the councillors backhanders or the DfT could simply pull the plug on the whole scheme. It could be a factor in a general election storyline next year. Anyway, I reckon the road will never get built for one reason or another. They won't get the farm they want, possibly because they won't have enough dosh after they've paid the others their share. Heather will fall off her perch, so they won't need to move. They'll stay on and fight the road scheme, and win. Brookfield will continue to be the Archers' family seat. That's my prediction, anyway. |

I don't think the road will be built either but can't imagine how the story will pan out, I think Heather will die thus stopping Ruth and Davids move

Perhaps one day Sean O'Connor will go 'missing', and then a few years later a mysterious Liverpool chav will be found under route B.

Hot news, new Pip! Incredibly the actress is called Daisy Badger. This comes from Tim Bentinck's (David's) twitter account.

I like the idea of Adam buying the farm. New Pip could stay and manage a herd or whatever. Could Ruth and David really be leaving? I still think the writers are teasing us and they'll stay, but maybe it could happen??
Charlie's gone up massively in my estimation for giving superior misery guts Debbie the boot She is my least favourite character with her voice like a smacked arse. I could never understand why Brian kowtowed to her so much, always taking her side over Adam, and lately even Adam seems to have joined her fanclub. I just hope this development doesn't cause her to hotfoot it back to Ambridge...I'm missing Sinister Rob and Doormat Helen - they haven't been on for a while

So with the Farm being purchased by Adam, maybe Pip will stay on
![]() I'm happy with a new Pip remaining and Ruth and David leaving and if Jill can remain too I'll be over joyed ![]() ![]() I had thought she was only going because David said he couldn't bear the thought of leaving without her ( ) but from what she said (to Carol?) she really wants to stay in farming even if it's not in Ambridge. This convinces me even more that D & R will stay in Ambridge, as I can't see Jill ever being written out.

This is how the BBC works. You have unaccountable and well paid BBC executives who feel they have to justify their positions by being seen to make changes no matter how pointless or destructive they are. This also happened with the recent Five Live schedule and programme changes. Despite being publicly funded, they have complete contempt for the viewers and listeners and these days even Feedback has difficulty in holding them to account.

Are they setting Peggy up to drop off her perch sometime soon? There have been loads of references to her sounding tired, not seeming herself etc. I reckon her party might be her swansong.
Then Tom would get his inheritance, and come back from Canada full of plans for sausage expansion. And how cross will Brian be if, as I suspect, route B and Druth's plan to sell up are abandoned. His plans for Borsetshire domination will be scuppered! |
