I suppose it's popularity and I imagine the majority of the audience it gets are older people, and I think most of people who come on these forums are younger and probably don't tune into The Archers. I could be wrong, that's just a possibility. I don't listen to The Archers but I love that it's been running for so long and I'd be happy to see it discussed more on these forums. Does it ever get discussed in the Radio forum I wonder?
No, it is very popular with many young people. I was brought up listening to it.

I know I suppose it was a given but looking forward to the mother of all back lashes they are going to be in receipt of from the entire village
She is going to tell her family. I am listening to today's episode on catchup. Poor Jack. Lillian's not taking it well.

I LOVE the Archers. It has accompanied me on many a drive home.

I love the fact that nothing ever happens.

Things do happen. Jack died yesterday and Helen is back with Rob. Darrel and Rosa have made up. Did you listen to Archers extra, well that was steamy IMO. Brenda and Dimitri.

Gosh you're joking. Oh Jack died! That's sad.

And Helen's back with Rob, well I guess that was on the cards. I have never understood the power Helen has over men .. she seems a horrible character to me.

I've never liked her but did like Brenda. My OH and I had a good laugh when the lovely Jude dumped Pip. She's even more annoying than Helen IMO. Mind you as soon as I am back at work, I probably will miss a lot of the Archers. Usually listen to it when I am cooking but lately I've taken to listening to it on catch up and try and catch Ambridge Extra when I can. I don't think there is a series of Ambridge Extra ATM.

Oh I've missed the whole Pip drama.

I find I can go for a couple of years without hearing it, come back, and nothing much has changed.

At the moment I listen to the omnibus on Sunday mornings, lazing in bed playing Solitaire on my phone.

Respect too I was brought up listening to it but once I left home I didn't listen to it. Sister-in-law listens to it whilst cooking and I kind of got into it through her recently well about 5 years ago. Now I listen to it when I can. Sometimes don't know all the characters. It took me ages to work out that Shula and Kenton are twins.

I think Jack's death was beautifully handled, all credit to June Spencer as Peggy and to the writers

I was surprised by the new voice for Tony. I didn't know the original Tony was leaving.

Go to the BBC Archers website. It tells you all about it there. That's what I did.

I was listening to it on Sunday, haven't listened for a while and said "they have finally killed him off then". I have been waiting for that since the actor died in real life. I must start listening to it again

I'm glad that this thread seems to be popular, even though I only resurrected it, I'd be interested to know how long other people have listened, I am 45 and have been listening for three years, although I did used to listen on Sunday mornings when I was 14, I remember this Clarrie the first time round!
I grew up listening to it as my parents listen to it, I remember car journey's and holidays where at 7pm every night they would put the radio on without fail.

Phil's garage is called the ARCHES, as it is under railway arches, not Archer's !!

Me too I thought he was another family member I hadn't heard of who was there because of Jack's death. Hate getting used to a new voice
