I am rather aren't I? I hadn't realised until I started joining in this thread that I sem to absorb everything like a sponge. IT sems to be my specialist subject. Anyway my map was a pull ouit from a book for Archer nerds my sister gave me as a joke one Christmas. However ther is a full OS style map of the area. You can get it from Amazon/E bay and maybe other places.

Thanks both of you. I'm going to have to get at least one of those. I like the OS map. I love maps, and I love the idea of a real OS map for Borsetshire

Steady on there is no need to go overboard. I would wait until map one arrives if I were you. I have a feeling that they are both the same. Come think of it it would be more of a problem if they were different.

I think that Peggy may well have a Damascene conversion when the facts start to come out. She's very tribal in her attitudes, and this evil swine terrorising her granddaughter will be a revelation to her.

And as older listeners will know, Peggy's first marriage, to alcoholic Jack Archer, caused her considerable heartache. She may well be quite sympathetic when she finds out what Helen has endured.

I didn't look at the map in Lord of the Rings until I had completed the tome and it was all 'wrong' as I had the 'correct' version in my head already.

I guess the Helen story will drag on with Trial and verdict, Then some new evidence and she will be released. But there is a long way to go before that happens.
My big fear is Rob will recover and get both children. Poor little Henry with no Mummy to care for him. It's tear jerking.

Yes I am thinking similalry. She didn't have it easy until Jack 2 came along. And she also seems to carry something of a burden in thinking that she is guilty of having chosen badly and fostered inherently bad genes on her offspring.

I know what you mean. If there is a book and a film I have to do the film first. If I do the book first both are spoiled. Captain Corellis Mandolin is a favourite book but I hated the film. I read the book first and they cast it so badly.

Poldark on the other hand was one where I saw the TV series (Angharad Rees and Robn Ellis version) first and then read all the books with those images in my head. Of course the new series is intolerable!

I hate to see photos of the Archer's actors because they don't look a bit like the characters in my head.

I do know what you mean but on this occasion Rob and Helen are exactly as I pictured them.

I loved the original series, but I'm also really enjoying the new series. The original looks very dated now as it's a studio-based series. I read the first few books after I'd seen the original series, but have just finished reading all 12 books (and thoroughly enjoyed them). Demelza in the book has black hair, not red - it's Ross who has auburn hair. Also George is miscast in this series. He's skinny and looks like a gentleman, whereas he should be someone who looks out of place dressed as a gentleman - he should be stockier like a blacksmith.

Ikywm. I was devastated when I first saw a pic of David, he's nothing like "my" David to look at. Joe Grundy, Robert Snell, Peggy and Jill are just as I pictured them though. As is Carol Tregoran, but that's because I recognised Eleanor Bron's voice as soon as she spoke.

In my mind's eye, Debbie Aldridge is blonde. Tamsin Greig just sounds like a blonde to me. When I first saw her on tv, I actually thought "She sounds like Debbie Aldridge, but she can't be, because Debbie's blonde".

Just shows how real the show is imo.

Borsetshire maps – what fun!

I wasn’t too far off I don’t think, on the whole, with the mental image versus the actual person of the actors. I found the Kim Kardashian swipe particularly cruel because Louise Patikas has healthy curves and has personality and genuine interests (cheese must presumably be a bit of a passion) and I’ve always found the Kardashian dynasty very plastic and frighteningly shallow as a concept and therefore the opposite of what the man Rob pretends to be to everybody around him (and Helen’s ideal man) would actually want in a woman. It’s certainly different that say some of the period dramas I’m fond off where I saw the TV adaption before reading the book. John Thornton from North and South and Richard Armitage are one and the same to me so I have struggled even with The Hobbit series, never-mind with some of his other parts like in Spooks where he’s not plastered in make-up. And Edith Evans just IS Lady Bracknell! “A Handbag!”

I’ve only been listening for a few years, probably about six or seven months before Rob and Helen began and thus was more disturbed by the sudden change in Tony’s voice than anything else. It was jarring.

BIB 1 - Of course she is. Clearly Oscar had her in mind when he wrote the character, even though Edith Evans was only 6 at the time. The man had amazing foresight.

BIB2. In the case of Ambridge its more likely to be a posse of village women.

On this map it shows the Police House. Who lives there, because Harrison moved into a house with Fallon didn't he move into the flat above the shop with Fallon?

Christine Barford lived there, but couldn't bear to move back after the flood and moved in with Peggy at The Lodge.

I thought Harrison and Fallon moved in after that, but if they're in the flat above the shop, I have no idea who's there now.

Having got fed up listening to Radio 2 on my car journey to work I switched over to Radio 4. I work shift work so get to listen to a variety of programmes and when on nights have picked up the odd episode of The Archers. With the recent Helen/Rob storyline I have been getting more hooked and will probably start listening regularly (probably the on-line omnibus). I was wondering if there is anywhere on-line where I can read up on who is who and current/recent storylines. There is some info on Wikipedia but it very limited.
