I have a suspicion that the newly returned Dr Locke may be heading for a dalliance with Elizabeth, which may well put the Blessed Shula's nose right out of joint.”

Oooh, yes, they were getting on well, weren't they? That would be fun. The downside would be more air time for Shula. And Lizzie constantly fretting about how the twins - or just Freddie, really - were reacting, although I suppose most of that last time she had a romantic involvement was because Roy was married.

It's much easier to focus on when it's dark and I find it relaxes me before I drift off to sleep.

Of course the last few months have sometimes set me more on edge and I'm really dismayed at the turn the Helen/Rob storyline has taken because it's bound to mean the whole thing will be dragged out for months to come. I'm 34, so I'm not a 'fuddy duddy' type listener that the media tries to imply all anti Rob/Helen fans are.

I do like to see the actors but that doesn't always mean that I picture the characters in the same way. I have no idea why, but I've always pictured Helen as having long blonde hair. Seeing recent photos of the actress with her brunette hair hasn't changed my mental image!

I often visit Archers message boards so I regularly read the views of listeners who've been tuning in since the very early days. Some of their views confuse me a little. They have a LOT of venom for Shula -- or Saint Shugs as they commonly refer to her as -- and I can see more evidence of it above! The only time I didn't like her was when she took issue with Alan marrying Usha, but as she's now seen sense I don't have any issues with her.

I don't like Susan. I know we're probably meant to see her as annoying but lovable, she just pees me off. Always has. She's snobby, pushy, nosy, talks too much and is opinionated. In real life surely most people would just shun her or talk to her with one word replies. I don't even laugh at her when she's being stupid or setting herself up for a fall. Neil is a saint.”

Susan is a total pain in the backside but she always has been and I cannot help but be amused by her.

I take great exception to a 'fuddy duddy' type listener. Wtf does that mean?

Does Freddie have a sibling?

Lizzie is just drumming up to be Shula Mark Two and needs a boot up the jaxi too. I really like Jill but her daughters totally annoy me.

My instinct says you are joking about, but in the off chance - Lily!

This is a serious question and may be missed however:
Do we know yet why Dr Richard Locke seemed to remember Rob from somewhere?
If not I assume at some stage this will become clear.

Can someone please confirm my suspicions.
Thanks,
Mike

When Rob went to have his DNA taken for the paternity testing it was Dr Locke who did it. They didn't know each other before then.

That DNA swab? Was wondering if there had ever been a story about someone installing a false cheek in their mouth to give a false swab?

I have been an Archers addict since the fifties. I object to being referred to as a fuddy duddy listener. I know all the characters and have listened to the younger ones growing up . I would refer to us loyal listeners as fans, not hasbbeens.

I have been suspicious about that all along.

Elizabeth was a real spoiled brat when she was growing up.

That's not my description!

I've read quite a few articles lately that have tried to explain the situation with The Archers. Most of them have spoken quite rudely (in my opinion) about those who disliked the Rob/Helen storyline and the length of time it's taken. They've basically implied that it's the long term listeners creating fuss that The Archers is being modernised.

They have tried to imply that said listeners are older and set in their ways -- i.e. fuddy duddies. I don't think they are, because I include myself among them!

I find most of the authors of these articles have just gone to The Archers Facebook page or the two Mustardland forums and have based their entire opinion of us regular listeners on a few irate posts. It's classic lazy journalism -- taking shortcuts to meet deadlines.

Hope that explains it.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH Yes so he did!!!! I had forgotten that. Yum, I wonder where that little nugget will come in. My guess is Helen's trail will go really badly, but right at the 11th hour Dr Locke will come riding in, in full armour on a charger (white naturally) to save the day.

Very well remembered though. Go to the top of the class!

Yes she was, wasn't she. There were months of dialogue about "her" bathroom as I recall and she and David were always squabbling. Then she got involved with the then baddy who had a surname for a first name and after that went horribly wrong she seemed to calm down.

Well I think we now know why Helen is so "troubled". With family and neighbours like hers who needs enemies?

That's the problem though isn't it? Rob played a really good game - appearing loving, kind and thoughtful to Helen and Henry in public, yet once the door was closed and they were alone, it was a completely different story. Nobody (yet) appears to want to say anything derogatory against Rob because they didn't see anything but his good side.

New Tom is now beginning to feel guilty about not speaking up sooner about his worries over Helen, hence the sacking episode - complete over reaction! Whether or not Shula admits to what she actually saw at the Hunt and not what she told the Police at the time is irrelevant as it will be totally discredited in court as her just wanting to help out Helen.

I do hope there is mileage in the Dr Locke connection, maybe he contacted his previous GP when the paternity test was done or perhaps there is something on his medical notes.

I know but seriously where would you place the benefit of the doubt when faced with chosing between seeing your daughter or grandaughter as an unprovoked killer or the mild mannered, attentive husband as having driven her to it? Would you give the benefit of the doubt to the kin you had known for 37 years or the stranger you have known for 37 months.

I am still not sure about Dr Locke taking the DNA samples. Why would Rob avoid him if it was as straightforward as that. When did this take place and I can go through my recordings (possibly) to check? If through some sort of dishonesty Rob managed to provide a DNA sample that was not his Jess would have accepted the father was the one night stand. I am sure she didn't get him (the one night stand) to provide DNA.
I think the Dr Locke recognition is something more sinister.

(By the way the fixing of paternity was done recently in Emmerdale - though rather unconvincingly!)

You record all the episodes of the Archers? And I thought I was the thread nerd!

I couldn't tell you when to start checking though. I remember when Richard was introduced to Rob roughly. I think it was at a village event on the green, maybe bonfire night. But that that point Richard couldn't place him. I can't remember the episode when Richard realised he had done the DNA test.

BIB I am very much hoping so.

Pat is unbearable now.
If she keeps whining "Helen wouldn't do thaaat" or "Helen isn't like thaaaat", then my radio is going to end up in a battered relationship of its own.

This simply isn't Pat. She would *know* how bad it looked for Helen, she would *know* that people's perceptions are fickle and prejudiced and that she needs to battle it with intelligence and skill.

Her character has beed warped dreadfully.

Never thought I'd say this but listening to Jill back at the casserole outlet pipe, and David with his hand up a cow (not Ruth thankfully) was lovely today.

Gradually getting some of my Archers back.
