Great news IMO. People will moan about it but this is the kind of system that will change online gaming and make it more accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Oh my god, it'll be like having your mother present. I've owned every Nintendo console they've made and they've always been a bit nannying but this is beyond ridiculous.

I certainly do, the same thing as many others will.

It's a shame that the only purely gaming hardware manufacturer is slowly losing the plot.

Hmm, I'd have thought computer-based filtering and a report button would suffice, seems crazy to have teams of humans checking all the messages!

Well Nintendo can go shove their bargain basement iPad where the sun don't shine.

I'l continue to live in 2001 when Nintendo and people above the age of 2 coexisted.

If you're a parent your kids shouldn't be online gaming, there is no need for them to do so.

The trouble is there's always a bunch of idiots out there that will spoil it for others so blame them, not Nintendo.
As soon as Miiverse was announced and shown the first thing I thought of was the waiting area of Phantasy Star online on Dreamcast which was just full of immature idiots which I just do not want to see when I turn on WiiU.
To be honest I'd rather just have a normal menu screen where I can pick and choose whether or not I want to see all that going on.
Perhaps once I get to use WiiU for myself I may have a different opinion.

Who said anything about your kids playing online? What happens if your child wants to play their child friendly Wii game then or even child friendly WiiU game?
As far as I'm aware when WiiU is turned on your greeted with all those Miis and their speech bubbles.

I've heard that talking with your friends won't be subject to this delay, but talking to strangers will - makes sense if true.

Hmmm I agree to an extent it's positive as there is far too much abuse in online gaming (particularly racist, sexual and homophobic). But what worries me is that I haven't actually heard that theres a way to opt out of this, should you wish. I think people well into adulthood have the right not to be censored in what they read or write.

Also I wonder how far the censorship will go, lets say I buy a Nintendo game that I didn't meet the hype and I write ''man Nintendo really messed up with this one''.....are Nintendo reps going to let that through???

If Nintendo again only allow old games to be 50hz in the UK and people post angry messages about it, telling Nintendo to give us 60hz....are Nintendo gonna block that?

If I buy an 18 rated game full of violence and swearing and nudity and post on it using swear words....Are Nintendo gonna censor that???

It raises questions. I Think Nintendo have yet again really made another pigs ear of this. I don't like online abuse but for many young men in their late teens and early 20s (mainly in America) 'trash talk' is part of their gaming identity. I hate that that's the case but its a fact. For that demographic this is a commercial bullet to the head. Strange as Nintendo were trying to go back to these core gamers.

Sadly I have to say I think Nintendo are so clueless right now.....they really are showing incompetence in several commercial areas, Sega levels of incompetence.

Why cant there just be a report button like on forums? Waiting 30 minutes for posts to appear is a joke
And censoring a discussion which could be healthy debate, in case someone moans at Nintendo, thats just wrong

I think you're ok with that - they did say that good and bad comments about games will show up on the menu screen.

This is where the "games you don't own showing up on the main screen" comes into play. I agree that if you own an 18 rated game, the comments shouldn't be censored. But if you don't own it, and it is popping up on your menu as a 'hot' game, the comments need to be censored. Will there be two levels of commenting - censored and uncensored (a post above suggests so, if only friends/strangers). Will Nintendo sensibly choose when to show uncensored comments? Will you be able to switch off censorship? Let's hope so.

I applaud Nintendo for trying to make this environment better for everybody though. We;ll see if it pays off.

The trouble is, as soon as Nintendo announced it, brainless commenters on certain sites were going "LOL. Can't wait to send penis drawings!"

I disagree with this. No one needs to game online. It's our choice to do so and it's also our choice to let our kids do it too, as long as we (parents) feel it is safe for them to do so. I let my 6 and 8 year old game online.

This should be a setting that can be disabled as many Wii U owners will not be children.

Reggie has said that the 30 minute delay only applies to users "flagged" by the community.
