No. It's not very good and IMO looks to be a bit of a flop. I've got nothing against Girls Aloud but this song doesn't sound that good with them, or probably anyone.

I will donate a non-trivial sum of money to Children In Need if I don't ever have to hear Girls Aloud again.

Seriously though, I am suspicious of the claim that "Every penny goes to Children in need" because there are bound to be some costs in manufacturing and distributing the wretched thing.

My advice is to cut out the middle man, unless you actually want a godawful Girls Aloud single, just make a donation to CIN and don't forget to tick the "reclaim my tax" box if you are an income tax payer. That way the CIN gets about 30% extra on top of your donation.

it will probaby do well cause people will buy it for the charitable cause, but imo it is more rubbish to clutter up the charts.

I reckon Top 5 comfortably - which can hardly be described as a flop. All of their singles have been Top 3 and I won't be surprised if this emulates the others.

I'll meet you back here on Sunday at 7pm.

Am I the only person that actually likes it? I'm not a massive girls aloud or pop fan but I like it. OK, it's a cover & they have really just copied it and not really put their own spin on it but it has nice lyrics and isn't sung badly, it's a nice change from their normal 'every single sounds the same' stuff plus I think it's a little bit christmassy and add to that some of the money is going to charity - c'mon it isn't THAT bad!

It's terrible - Chrissy Hynde's gritty vocal on the original is just so-o-o-o much better.

And if I'm gonna give money to charity, I'd rather just give them the money than encourage dross like this.

The have killed the song - When Chrissy sings the song she does it with emoution, it is as if she is actually talking to a loved one and one get a feeling of intimacy.

I don't know why the singles charts are just called the karokee charts. I haven't bought a single in years.

I like both versions and I don't know how people can say Girls Aloud have killed it, it's hardly any different to the original.

It's an alright cover, they haven't killed it or stuck anything dodgy in there. They sing it pretty well, I think they're pretty good singers, and they're a nice bit of eye candy on my TV set.

I'd probably slag it if it wasn't for charity, as it would be an "easy hit" though. But It's also their first cover of a popular song, so they're not major cover culprits, like Westlife. Although admittedly some of their songs sounds suspicously similar to other songs .

Hell, they've even sung it live a couple of times. Thankfully I've noticed on their last performance, that they've stopped doing that lame thing at the end, of all standing up next to each other. God that looked crap.

Go buy it, its for charrrrrrrity

Did you forget about 'Jump'?, anyway i agree with you.

At least they have sung live for the performances of this song.

Yes, the charts are filling up with cover versions and/or crap. Chart positions are from the radio1 website.

6. Car Wash (Shark Tale) - cover version of a Rose Royce track from 1976.
7. My Perogative (Britney) - cover version of a 1989 track by Bobby Brown
8. Call On Me (Eric Prydz) - samples and remixes "Valerie" by Steve Winward
14. Dream (Dizzee Rascal) - samples "Happy Talk" by Captain Sensible (originally written for "South Pacific")
20. Everlasting Love - cover version originally done by "The Love Affair", around 1968.
40. "More More More" originally done by The Andrea True Connection around 1976.

tba "I'll stand by you", originally done by the Pretenders in 1994

It's total rubbish. It's mostly about the video, to be honest - which shows 5 girls taking sexy poses. Wow. They aren't even anything special, as they just look like random slappers you see in and around town on a weekend night!

I think there is a very simple reason for that.

i'd gues its more to do with the record company making them look like that.

as for the song, i like it. i know thats not a popular opinion with the 'it's a cover, lets boycott it' brigade that lurk here, bt i dont care.

to be quitre honest, it doesnt sound too different to the original in my opinion.

Possibly but the reason I had in mind is far simpler than that...

Oh, OK. I'll put you out of your misery.

The reason "they just look like random slappers you see in and around town on a weekend night" is because that is exactly what they are.

The Markster's theory is probably correct look at other pop artists like Britney, Christina and Rachel Stevens which are all marketed the same.

As for calling them slappers just because of it is really immature.

OK. Sorry.

It was the "random" bit which appealed to me. You could probably go into the "The Drink" any evening and find several dozen nobodys just as (un)suited to be pop stars. The only trick is to avoid the ones fighting with the toilet attenants.

It's not immature - they do look like slappers. And this is the image they try to convey on purpose.
