Not quite true. Two other British cities have actually been
considered in the last twenty years, but both were unfortunately rejected.
Birmingham put in a very good bid for the 1992 Olympics and Manchester put in an equally good bid for the 2000 Olympics. I would have loved to have seen one of those cities succeed, but it was not the case.
In a way, you have a point, because as far as the International Olympic Committee is concerned London is the only city in the United Kingdom capable of staging this event. I believe them to be wrong, but that's how it is. Thus, when London bid for the 2012 games the IOC took that bid a lot more seriously than it did the ones from Birmingham and Manchester and the result was what we will see at the end of next month.
