I recently got hold of the apple tv 2 JB. I plugged it in and at first it seemed to work ok. It then froze on something and I really needed to go out so stupidly I removed the power lead in the back. I came back after a while and plugged it back in and it rebooted and the apple logo came on screen. Then all of a sudden once it was fully booted I got no video, almost as if the hdmi video was not working. I've tried reboot using the remote and also tried AirPlay to try to get the video going all to no avail.

Please help me if you can thanks.

Have you tried removing the power again?

If that doesn't work you may have to restore the firmware via iTunes, and then re-apply the jailbreak if you want it.

Yes several times but the same issue occurs.

I'm new to this so don't quite get the procedure and JB stuff, is there a link to it you recommend or just google it myself?

What have you plugged it into? Presumably a TV but is it possible the Apple TV has got itself into a mode the TV does not support?

For example it may be in 1080p mode but your TV may only be capable of 1080i. That might make it a tad difficult to reset if you can't see the set up menu to change it!

Do you have another device with HDMI out? Try plugging that into the same lead and TV input as the Apple unit. If you get a picture then that does at least show the lead and TV input are working. If you don't then it may be a lead or input problem.

So try a different lead and/or TV input and see if that restores a picture.

Though it is always possible the Apple unit is screwed up. Any chance you can try it on another TV that can do 1080p just to see if you can get any video out of it? And if so then try setting it to a mode your TV is happier with?

And if it still doesn't work then just get a sledgehammer and smash the whole lot into little pieces. Doesn't solve the problem obviously but can be very satisfying

The fact that it was working on my tv first suggests its not an issue with the tv but the box. I will try another tv, changing the hdmi cable did nothing.

I just got it today so the sledgehammer option would be even more costly and thus not satisfying!

Try one of the forums specialising in jail breaking Apples. You'll have a better chance of finding someone who has gone through a similar experience. Google is your friend.
