Ke$ha is the worst, surely?

She is a good singer, rapper, writes her own songs, plays guitar and is incredible live.

In short, she's awesome!

Good call, i forgot about Britney actually, so its probably between her and Cheryl.

Rihanna's definitely not the least talented. She usually always sings live and puts a lot of effort into her performances/image...I'd say the least talented would have to go to Cheryl or Britney...

Not really, although I am not a fan. That 'honour' if you can call it such goes to Kylie.

My instinct is to say yes but thinking about it although I'm fans of them I think maybe Cheryl or Kylie could be, purely because they don't excel in any of the criteria you mentioned but at least Rihanna has a brand and a great image. Obviously its just my opinion and others will disagree.

Examples: LTWYL on the Loud tour, California King Bed on American Idol, Russian Roulette. Also, she has quite a unique tone to her voice imo that makes her stand out.

2) She co-wrote a lot of Rated R and has a few co-writes on Talk That Talk so she does write a bit, although we don't know how much contribution she actually has.

3) Doesn't play instruments but she's not the only one not to

4) She's not the best dancer but she has shown she can dance like in the Where Have You Been vid, What's My Name performances. It's not particularly difficult choreography compared to someone like Cheryl but she sings and dances live. She's a better dancer than people like Kesha, Adele (not that we've seen her dance), Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry etc.

She's definitely not as talented as Beyonce but I disagree that she's the least talented woman in pop.”

Oh, I'm sorry but this sounds like the desperate warbling of a deluded fan.

1) You can either sing or you can't. No amount of vocal training will make her come out on stage sounding like Beyonce. It's all about the natural ability to control your vocal chords, just like how you have the natural ability to draw or the natural ability roll your ****ing tongue. And I saw each of those performances, she was either using playback over her voice or...just sounding morbidly diabolical.

2) Write a word, claim a third. If Rihanna wrote most of Rated R, her most critically acclaimed album, her record label would make her write everything else. Alas, this never happened, as she probably went as far as saying "I would like it if this song was about..."

3) Much to disbelief, the voice is actually classed as a musical instrument. She certainly can't play that. And most songstresses like her can play instruments. Hell, even Mariah Carey could play an instrument -- the piano -- other than tangling up her voice box.

4) She can't dance. This is just making excuses. She's no better at dancing than Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha and whoever else you mentioned, yet the difference between them is they don't pretend they can dance... Nicki Minaj shakes her bum, Katy Perry and Ke$ha just...jump up and down. Rihanna attempts to dance and is awful at it. She just wobbles her hips around.

Rihanna is definitely the least talented woman in current pop music. She may be a better singer than Ke$ha, she may be ever so slightly better at dancing than Nicki Minaj, but other artists make up for it in other areas, whereas Rihanna... Well, what exactly is her "stand out" thing? Her auto-tuned nasal voice?

Woah there alot of miseducation about Kylie she is probably one of the most talented of the pop brigade and heres why.

She writes or co-writes all of her material
She always sings lives
She creates the concepts and puts a hell of alot of thought into her live shows.
And has proved herself versatile time and again.
25 years late she is still here alongside the great and the good.

You may not like her but she is head and shoulders above Britney, Rihanna, and Cheryl Cole who do very little in the way of just putting down vocals admittedly Rihanna does more than the other two.

I was at this performance and it was definitely live as they did a last minute soundcheck during the ad break, and the warm-up guy joked that her guitarist looked like a woman...Rihanna can sing. She's definitely not the best vocalist, but she has had a lot of training and has come a long way, plus she usually always performs live (granted sometimes with backing vocals) but I can't recall a recent mimed performance from her. Plus she is an excellent performer. Her performance I linked was so haunting and really drew me and she didn't need flashing lights and dancing to do that. She deserves credit and certainly isn't the least talented.

I don't find that performance haunting in the slightest. I just see and hear a woman with a very nasal chest voice and upper register sat on a spinning chair. What is it about that performance that is haunting...? I just don't see it.

Those were live vocals and she was on pitch for the majority of the time, so contrary to your suggestion she can sing. And I like the tone of her voice. Maybe you don't like her/her voice, but technically she definitely has some (if slightly limited) vocal ability. She isn't talentless by any means...

Fine, then what is her talent? And don't say singing. I could sing just as well as Rihanna, but that doesn't mean I'm a talented vocalist. What is her talent? What is that one thing she excels at more than anything and puts her in a league of her own? Answer me that.

Her image. She knows how to promote herself and make the most of her abilities. She's not the best singer and dancer, but she knows who she is as an artist and her more recent albums do definitely reflect her personality.

She knows how to promote herself...or her management do? That isn't Rihanna, it's a brand called Rihanna. Every artist has one and it's created by their management - a conference table made up of people from a pissing sales and marketing team... Do you think Lady Gaga just sits at home dressed like a piece of bacon? And image isn't talent, image is shallowness... Maybe the mastermind behind her is talented as he/she has created some superstar phenomenon, but Rihanna has little to do with it.
Albums cannot reflect her personality as she DID NOT WRITE THEM. How many times can this be stressed? She has zero connection to them, it's just karaoke. She is singing somebody else's song. I understand that you're a Rihanna fan, but surely you must understand this debate...

They are songs written specifically FOR HER though, nobody else. So she may not have the writing talent, but the songs are obviously things she feels connected to. Rated R feels like a very personal album despite her not writing any of it. She didn't write it, but she sure as hell knows how to make the song her own.

Well obviously they were written specifically for her... My Heart Will Go On was written specifically for Celine Dion, but that doesn't mean it reflects her. We're never going to agree on this, you're a fan after all and it's admirable how you're using such bizarre excuses to stick up for her, but perhaps it's best we don't continue this.

Is this her though? i think this is more the record label and her promo team tbh

I think so as I have a feeling this will just go round in circles...

She obviously will have a hand in deciding which songs to record and what she wants in the videos etc. Having watched The Road To Talk That Talk she does look very hands on in the process...I wouldn't say that it's her management/team doing everything though they undoubtedly assist her.

Rihanna is a commercial artist, nothing more, nothing less.
Credit to Jayz and his team for the way they have managed her career.
Rihanna is doing her thing on the singles charts and you can't knock her for that.

Answering the OP question.
Is Rihanna the least talented woman in the music industry?
Well there are a couple of them.

The question is...
Would Rihanna get through the first round of any singing talent show?
hmmm... I'm not sure.

There are artists who are in control of their career like Beyonce and Gaga.

and then there are artists like Rihanna and co who come in everyday to work where she gets told what the plan is for the day and what she has to do.

no she doesn't and perhaps hasn't even wrote or co-wrote half of her output over the years. the standard edition of her last album she only had 3 writing credits and she didn't write her current single. you shouldn't really go around `re-educating` people with only half truths.

now having read a recent post where you admitted your `irrational dislike` for cole, its hardly surprising you should come out with that. however, you don't see her fans bending the truth about her musical input like some people clearly do.

I don't think she is the least talented female I think there is a long Q behind her. I do think she works incredibly hard however that is starting to be her down fall as she has completely saturated the market. Rated R was an album full of fillers and not even the lead singles were really good tracks dated very quickly. Loud however was a really well put together album unfortunately instead of continuing to support it she rushed out with talk that talk which at most has about three decent tracks. She also seems to appear as a featuring artist everywhere to the point you now actually get really irritated with her. Actually I have just now convinced myself. Your right she is the most irritating!

No, not when Tweedy's at the bottom of the list.

What I will say is she's improved a lot. She's not the worst singer, has just started dancing in performances and is closer to 20 than she is to 30. She's already massive and will probably get even bigger. I only see her improving. People do love to bash her though.

I said Britney earlier, but after thinking about it maybe Dannii Minogue has to be the least talented female, or Alexandra Burke
